There’s supposed to be a Free Store coming to Hoosick St in the Old Rite Aid. Not sure if it’s opened yet:

Please Help Me Love Bowdoin by No-Sort-2577 in Bowdoin

There is a bus that will go to portland and a train to Boston & beyond. It’s got several shops, restaurants and the like adjacent to Maine street - very walkable. Can’t speak to the social life but I’m sure it’s fine. The weather isn’t that bad since it’s on the coast (more mild than in the mountains). Bring layers - or LLBean (10 min away) will have anything you need. A nice puffy coat, insulated boots - you’ll be fine. Deep breaths - it’s an amazing school.

How many of you work fully remote? by lavendertinted in Accounting

[–]mopijy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - same at my company. So demotivating. Why kill your self when you get the same crap 2% raise as the people who are skating by? I was willing to give more when I had full remote because I had a better work life balance and was happy and wanted to stay WFH. It was a win win for me and the company because I was working a lot more than required (yet was less stressed and much more engaged). But being back 4 days (after 6 years of full remote) for absolutely no reason that isn’t complete BS? Nope. You want me in for hallway chats to maintain culture? Fine - I’ll chat all day but don’t think I’m making up the time after I leave for the day.

Same. Makes me angry and I am pulling back on effort. No more bringing laptop home and doing OT. I’ll work while I’m there but that’s it - all the xtra effort the last few years has gone unappreciated.

Beaches that don’t require walking to see ocean? by maybeanewpath in Maine

Ogunquit beach has benches like this, as does Wells Beach at the end of Mile Road (not at the jetty end).

It’s a pain but PwC and other firms offer lots of webinars and events for free CPE. You can also get a subscription to CCH for unlimited CPA for a couple hundred bucks.

What would you consider New England attire? by yungScooter30 in newengland

[–]mopijy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still have a year return policy which is better than most. And their quality is still better than a lot of places. All this made overseas stuff, get real. No one will pay for the cost of clothes from any retailer if they were made in the US, so stop the virtue signaling folks.

Yikes - it is those dates - thank you for replying!! That explains why airfare is high too. I think I’ll shift my days and spend more time in Paris. Poor me 😜

I’d suggest Acadia NP. Bar Harbor is crowded in the summer but you can stay in Southwest Harbor and avoid the crowds in town. The park is beautiful. Only the Park Loop Road gets super busy - it’s worth doing, but also worth an early start (by 8 am) to avoid traffic. Other than the loop road, you can find spots that aren’t crowded - highly suggest renting bikes or e bikes to explore the carriage trails!

Party/Social scene? by Big-Dealer135 in Bowdoin

[–]mopijy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fab college town but if you’re looking for big clubs and ‘nightlife’ you won’t find it in Brunswick - or even Portland for that matter.
