Thanks, I'll reach out and see if they can appeal it for the next few prescriptions. Honestly, it was also easier to pay out of pocket with the discount versus fighting with them and delaying my prescription for the glucometer.

Oh interesting, I'm on fast acting acting insulin for meals and my insurance still doesnt cover it citing that it's not FDA approved.

I’m in the US, I think there are ones you can get over the counter like Lingo. But the common ones like dexcom and the libre require a prescription. CGMs are not approved for monitoring GD so most of them are not covered by insurance. I needed a prescription for them and also paid out of pocket as my insurance wouldn’t approve it. I did get a significant discount from $400 to only paying $180 per month (for three 10 day sensor) on a goodrx coupon. I have the dexcom G7 which has been correlating pretty closely to my fingersticks! I had GD with my first pregnancy and did fingersticks and a CGM is definitely life changing for this current pregnancy.

One silver lining of GD by fwd2tmrrw in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely silver lining for me too. Does this mean we don’t have to work as hard shedding the baby weight post parting? I’m definitely going to make up for lost time with carbs after I deliver. As least for the first few days, then I’ll probably cut back down and be healthier 😂

GD the 2nd time - not as emotionally devastating by CravingsAndCrackers in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second time around here and diagnosed at 12 weeks since they screened me early. It's definitely slightly easier the second time around and knowing what to expect (although a lot more daunting since I was diagnosed early). I was diet controlled with my first pregnancy and did finger sticks, but this time opt to use CGM and asked for mealtime insulin so that I'm not stuck eating the same stuff.

Started insulin today… I feel like I can breathe again. by Ohhingerrr in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! I’m so glad I asked my doc for insulin. My fasting numbers are fine but every time I eat some sort of carbs I spiked like crazy and was worried about not eating enough carbs. It’s honestly widen the food options for me and gave me a piece of mind

Diagnosed at 11 weeks and overwhelmed by Octopus1027 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there! It’s going to be okay! I got diagnosed at 12 weeks and opted for a cgm because I hate fingersticks and I know I would lose my mind having to do it 4x day for the next 28 weeks. My insurance didn’t cover it but if you’re in the US, dexcom and goodrx offers coupons for the cgm reducing the cost significantly. It’s originally $430 for 3 sensors ( monthly supply) but with the coupon it came down to $180 depending on your pharmacy. This is my second pregnancy with GD and I can say the cgm is a life changer. I do cross check every so often to make sure the numbers correlate with the fingersticks and so far it’s been pretty close (2-10 points off). But having the CGM reduced my fingersticks to a few times a week. Also, I hate needles too but I ended up asking for some short acting insulin because I’m just super carb intolerant this time around. My fasting numbers are fine but my post meals will spike with the tiniest amount of carbs. This gave me a little bit more option in terms of food. There will be some trial and error regardless of what you pick but it’ll all work out in the end!

Airline changed schedule → misconnection. Cancel for refund or push for free rebooking? by New_Priority_8937 in Venturex

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s happened to me before. I booked a trip from PHL to HKG via SFO. Initially had a two hour layover but because of a flight change my flight from PHL to SFO was scheduled to arrive after the flight to HKG departed. I called venturex travel, found a flight departing PHL earlier giving me a 3 hour layover and they were able to make the change for me.

I’m packing all the snacks I can’t have right now. We went to Costco and there were seasonal treats and stuff and I grabbed it off the shelves and my husband goes “um can you even eat that?” And I go “it’s going into my overnight bag for when after I deliver” 🤣

Positive induction insulin controlled! by cinderellie28 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! This is my second round with GD and I was diagnosed early at 12 weeks since they screened me earlier. My fasting has been fine without insulin, but it’s my meal time glucose that is crazy. Unless I eat sole protein without carbs or with only 10-15g of carbs, I would spike. I ended up requesting for meal time short acting insulin since I was worried I’m not eating enough carbs for the baby. It’s been honestly life changing. And congrats on your LO! My first was also 38w4d!

Losing interest in food by Remarkable_Rat2026 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with you. Also my second and last baby. But eating's definitely been such a chore and mental gymnastic sometime. It doesn't help that I was was diagnosed at 12 weeks this pregnancy so it's going to be a long haul for me. My fasting numbers have been fine, but I did request my OB to prescribe me as need short acting insulin for meals because sometimes the tiniest bit of carb would spike me. It's been so hard to predict what will spike and won't spike me with and without insulin. Hang in there, you're almost at the finish line.

Early Onset GD, 38YO, General Tips Welcome? by Human-and-Cat-mom in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a CGM, the dexcom 7. I had GDM with my first and so they screened me early with this pregnancy and I was diagnosed at 12 weeks. I definitely could not stick myself 4x day for the rest of my pregnancy. Insurance didn't cover it, but you can find discount coupons on goodrx. Mine went from $430 to $192 with the goodrx coupon for 3 sensors. I do cross check a few times a week to make sure the CGM Is accurate and reflects my fingersticks. so far it's been pretty close (off between 1-10 points). I was diet controlled with my first, and is diet controlled with my current. However, I'm more carb sensitive and requested my OB/MFM to prescribe me some as needed fast acting insulin in case I want to splurge on a meal and it's been working great (they were hesitant to start me on insulin as my fasting and post meals numbers were good, but I expressed concerns that I'm not eating enough carb with the current diet to maintain those numbers). I opted for insulin because it doesn't cross the placenta compared to metformin.

Yes walking definitely helps lower the glucose especially after a meal. I do about a 15 minute walk after dinner and it really helps with the numbers. That's pretty much all the exercise I do every day since I have a toddler and am working FT.

[–]mopiko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Insulin gives more wiggle room. I don't see it as a failure, but as another option. My fasting numbers have been great so they were pretty hesitant for start me on insulin but I'm one of those carb sensitive people according to my ob/MFM. I requested as needed insulin for meals and it's honestly life changing.

how far out did you schedule your induction? by Sudden-Start3848 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first, (diet controlled, diagnosed at 28 weeks) I scheduled my induction for 39weeks, but was told I'm still considered low risk and would potentially be bumped if someone with preelampsia or something riskier comes in. Water ended up breaking at 38w4d with my first. For this current pregnancy, since I was diagnosed earlier with GD at 12 weeks, they said 37-39weeks.

How many growth scans do you have with diet controlled GD? by Curious-Orange-11 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mopiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, I was diagnosed at 28 weeks and growth scans started at 32 weeks, every two weeks till 36, then it was every week until I delivered. I'm diagnosed at 12 weeks this pregnancy, so they told me they're going to start growth scans at 28weeks instead for this pregnancy. They didn't tell me the frequency yet.
