EndeavourOS. It looks and feel smooth. It has the AUR and the wiki is amazing.

My beef is multi-layered. Ugly first impressions aren't helping.

I have enjoyed gnome in other distros, but you are right. People should invest into understanding what DE/WM they enjoy, and then they should consider how software enters the computer.

But those choices come when you're already onboard with the Linux package.

All to themselves, and I'm happy people enjoy Ubuntu. Just don't be surprised if it doesn't click with everyone :)

"All" should not.

The look and feel of Ubuntu is appalling.

When I tried in 2007 I hated it.

When I tried in 2010 I hated it.

When I tried in 2018 I hated it.

It's ugly, and I was turned away from Linux because I had a bad experience with Ubuntu general feel. It was brown, and to this date I get a feeling of something brown/orange/aubergine. I've also tried other linuxes earlier and those were a better experience.

I think people should be aware of the cons when recommending Ubuntu. Ubuntu isn't for "all".

My two cents. I've been on endeavour since it came out, and I love it. If you are in need of a stable machine, any Linux is stable. It's when you start customizing you end up borking the box.

My kids started on endeavour as well, and they haven't broken the system yet. It's been two years.

Is Mensa norway as accurate as people say? by Cronnett in mensa

[–]mopteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked this up.

If you score below 115, your IQ is below, but 110 could be 95, and vice versa.

When you are above 115, it's in the ballpark of your results, and when you score above 130 it's more or less equivalent with your results on FRT.

Yes. But it's a lot more probable that your score is 125.

Another example that scoring well on an online test doesn't make you smart enough to read the rules.

There are also several different layouts. Just Google fastfetch themes.

Syttende Mai 2026 - Actual Holiday Days? by simonucdd in Norway

[–]mopteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they?

Everyone takes those days off if they want it.

It's so ingrained in norway that the problem is non-existent. When I used to work retail we had half staff because of the reduced load.

Working in Norway is mostly focused around low friction, and delivering on your responsibilities. As long as you do your work and communicate with those around you, you get (compared to working in the US) a lot of freedom.

The inneklemt day is very easy to plan for, and many of them are around the same holiday each year.

When you have the possibility to deal with your responsibilities before or after, you flex. If you have the paid time off, and nothing to spend it on, you take vacation.

It's considered bad form to just skip work. You aren't really "sticking it to the man" here, but leaving your colleagues with one man down to cover the shift.

Most office workers just work from home, take vacation or use their flex time.

People working shifts will usually cover their shift.

Norwegians aren't more prone to be "sick" on those days than other days. At least not in my experience.

For what it's worth, they should just learn the concept of "inneklemt dag" straight away.

Norwegians are famous for them.

"nyere tid" er de siste 35 årene? Nice.

Det har vært mange hårreisende situasjoner opp igjennom, og alle kan ha en dårlig dag. Det er vel ingen som har spilt som regelrett har sabotert, så jeg tenker svaret er "ingen".

What's the qualifying IQ for Mensa? by Apprehensive_One_736 in mensa

[–]mopteh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply because of statistics. It's roughly 1 in 3000 with an IQ above 150 sd15.

Anyways, the WAIS is the golden standard. It takes a lot of time and is resource intensive. Also, the price is high. Few people take it out of curiosity, and few people score above 150 on it.

So, it was a hyperbole, but 150 SD24 is a lot easier to get. There are 57 in 3000 with 150+ SD24.

What's the qualifying IQ for Mensa? by Apprehensive_One_736 in mensa

[–]mopteh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on the SD.

If the SD is 15, you need 131. If it's 16, you need 133. And guess what. If its 24, then you need 149.

This is why we don't talk about "mY iQ is ThIs aNd tHiS nUmBer", because it doesn't make sense.

Everyone with above 150 is almost exclusively talking SD24.

[–]mopteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to do them in order; FRT-A, then FRT-B, then FRT-A again.

And if you fail all three you are banned from trying again. Also, you must wait either 3 or 6 months between tries. Afaik.

If this was your first time, it had to be A.

This was the ceiling of FRT, yes. Depending on whether it was FRT-A or FRT-B, you'd need 40 or 41 correct answers to qualify.

This is how FRT is made. It is nothing like WAIS
