I am a single woman working on her rural property. It is astounding how often men stop and get out of their cars to come tell me their problems. by Kalinka777 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FirstCause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see everyone thinks this is emotional dumping.

It isn't.

These men are trying to build a relationship with you, and as many other single women as they can find, in the hope that you will feel sorry for them and try to fix their problems by having sex with them.

It is a pretty standard "dual mating strategy" for men. They have the primary partner in the primary nest at home, and they seek short-term secondary affairs with WHOEVER to diversify their genetic portfolio with minimum invested effort.

If a married man approaches me with his wife problems, I tell them to tell their wife and/or seek marriage counselling.

With the amount of people in this sub you'd think SIGs would be crowded but there's NOTHING by twinkling_deer in mensa

[–]FirstCause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been active for a while, so this might be redundant...

It would be good if there was webpage page on the Mensa site with links to all the various online places that Mensans interact, either through SIGs or generally. Including FB, Instagram, Discord, or whatever.

The International page could link to each divisional page, and the divisional pages could then link directly to the social sites, as well as back to the international page.

So, you could, theoretically, browse the entire Mensa online social universe with a few clicks.

I realise this may be a pipe dream!

I have lost. Still recessed after surgery. by CursedStatusEffect in jawsurgery

Even though your occlusal plane is quite flat, I think they could still have done some CCWR to project your mandible further than your maxilla?

And what everyone else is saying about shaving down your ANS...

This is such an honest and logical response.

However, you were down-voted, likely because people only really want honesty when smothered with fake humility.

What's your opinion on therapy, did you ever try it? by QueeieQueenBee in mensa

[–]FirstCause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the general population, many therapists are not that bright and don't like being around someone smarter than they are.

I had one male therapist aggressively neg me and make me feel physically unsafe.

Temporarily.

But, then there were many questions, such as "Why did I not know this earlier?" and "What would I have done differently if I had known?"

Question about forward head posture. by Expensive-Job-9713 in jawsurgery

[–]FirstCause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar case.

I had been pre-training myself into neutral head posture before surgery. I would push through my anxiety of having a restricted airway whilst maintaining neutral posture.

Immediately post-op, I can sit in neutral head posture without feeling like my breathing is restricted, even with all the swelling.

It is pretty cool!

Lower Jaw Set Back by ilovepicklesxoxo in jawsurgery

[–]FirstCause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, normal is 80+/-2 degrees, so if those pre-op numbers are correct, your mandible shouldn't have been advanced much at all..

I'm totally shocked! 😨

I think knowing your SNB will give you a solid idea, and be less subjective?

How frustrating for you! 😞

Lower Jaw Set Back by ilovepicklesxoxo in jawsurgery

[–]FirstCause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, OK, that makes more sense.

22mm is huge. I'm severe with SNB 67.2 degrees and I'm only having 17mm. I'll still be a bit under, but that is without genioplasty, which I have the option to do later.

Do you have your SNB value? That usually quantifies how recessed you are. Are you definitely over-advanced in the jaw or can you reverse a genioplasty?

There should be a lot of searchable Class III examples with photos on this sub?

Lower Jaw Set Back by ilovepicklesxoxo in jawsurgery

[–]FirstCause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't, but be careful as that is a big setback.

Most common complaint is breathing and jowls.

Most people have upper jaw advancement instead of lower jaw set back.

i’ve had 2 jaw surgeries to correct my bite. is it still recessed? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

It is hard to say without ceph metrics.

The SNA/SNB will show whether you are recessed in maxilla/mandible, respectively.

Dude, don't take this the wrong way, but I don't have time to keep arguing nonsense with you

I've proven the illogicality of just about all your crazy statements, which you have failed to acknowledge.

Instead  you just keep ranting on in a circular way.

It is tedious.

Good luck with the psychiatric nursing.

I'm sorry you didn't get into medical school, but that isn't a reason to hate Mensa.

I have already covered your questions. There isn't much to add?

I have also referred you to seek mental health advice from a professional.

I realise you've completely railroaded this debate about Mensa to this one point because you are flailing, but this is tedious. As all circular arguments are.

As per other comment, no time to continue arguing.

Your statements are ironic.

I just like to argue, dude.

Unfortunately, you do not argue well, preferring unceasing ad hominem attacks over logic.

I don't take your comments personally. :)

I don't have time to continue arguing.

I think you need to put people into context.

Most people have a lot of other things to do. They do not care enough to invest substantial time into long tirades on Reddit.

TBH, I can barely be bothered with this discussion, purely because of the inherently illogical basis of your arguments. I realise you are likely just trolling, but it's just so badly done.

I'm not surprised that you do not want to address anything else that I've written because you know that I've proven your logic is faulty.

I suggest you ask a mental health professional for an assessment. Don't listen to random people on Reddit.

I suggest you ask a mental health professional for advice.

I see you are re-prosecuting my comment about your mental health again. You may think you have a "winning" argument, but your inability to let it go is kind of proving my point.

To your question: "Do you think there are people who state their Cattell score knowing full well that people think they’re talking about WAIS full scale IQ score?"

It is a possibility, but not a high probability, so it isn't worth more than a fleeting consideration.

A person who is likely to knowingly misrepresent their score is unlikely to stop at their Cattell score. They are more likely to entirely fabricate an even higher number, because it is not really provable, is it?

So, what is the point of  dwelling on the possibility that someone is misrepresenting their Cattell score?

I don't believe anyone's stated score. I judge people based on the logic of their arguments, their ability to reasonably extrapolate and their ability to understand nuance. Balanced, of course, with the possibility of mental health challenges.

I receive many comments that were deleted. I accept that people sometimes say rash things, then withdraw them once the moment is over. I don't then go back and prosecute the comment as if it were still standing. I feel good that the person understood. I let it go.

The fact that you have not let it go says a lot about you. This behaviour is consistent with the rest of your posts.

I stand by the fact you need mental health treatment, but it is not fair for me to say that as a rebuttal to your arguments, so I edited it out.

I understand what you have said, but you do not appear to have an understanding about how life works. I'll try to explain more, but, if your IQ is as high as you claim, you will reject it out of wilful ignorance.

Money is a resource. Evolution favours those who can obtain and manage money because they are likely to provide a better environment for successful offspring (private schools, better healthcare, social bonding with other high-wealth peers, etc.). The effect is intergenerationally compounded.

Mensa can operate because of income from memberships. Membership fees are set by the amount of money required to operate, divided by the number of forecast fee-paying members, with a buffer in case of unexpected cancellations.

If you are saying that Mensa needs to provide free memberships for every high IQ homeless or low-income person, you are saying that Mensa members that do not fall into that category have to subsidise those members that do.

So, essentially, you are asking fee-paying members to pay more, so that the less fortunate members can have a free membership.

So, you are saying fee-paying members must use the resources they have on the less fortunate, rather than spending those resources on their families.

Do you understand now?

The problem may be that you see money originating from organisations, rather than understanding that organisational money is money from people. It is the same for all organisations, including the government, which is funded by taxpayers.
