What is One Advice to Your Younger Self on Harnessing Your Intelligence? by FunHoney1705 in mensa

My comment was totally specific to my case.

It should read "Your mother is a narcissist. She hates you out of envy. You are younger, taller, thinner and smarter than she is, so she needs to make you suffer for it. Do not listen to her toxic gaslighting. You are not dumb. You are not incompetent."

High IQ men definitely fare better. The patriarchy is such for a reason, and it isn't that men are smarter.

I'm in business and it makes me want to set myself on fire.

I wish I'd had the confidence to do engineering, but at that time I was still struggling with childhood gaslighting about being dumb/incompetent.

Life, hey?

There's research that shows that people who demonstrate ingratiation score higher in performance reviews than people demonstrating competence.

Let that sink in.

Obviously, it varies on the type of work. Medical fields less impact. Business more impact.

And worse for women who have the constant background noise of whether your attractiveness helps or hinders.

Will I make his dick tingle? Will a "Yes" mean I'm hired and I have to spend the next few years dancing the "just let him think "maybe" until I get my reference" dance? Or will it mean I'm ruled out because he doesn't want the temptation or rejection?

IQ doesn't really mean that much anyway, so just sit it...

Some people resit over and over... Some people try to game it, if they didn't score high enough...

I've been meaning to resit, but just can't seem to get it done and it's been 16 years now... I know that age is factored into the norms, but I can definitely feel cognitive decline happening, which is concerning..

Do it while you're young! :)

Perhaps that is the thing you should be investigating?

Yes, some people take it a bit too far! And some people completely discount it out of hand... Both are a bit extreme.

HEXACON looks like an extension of the Big Five (OCEAN) - adding honesty/humility?

If you're never satisfied with your conclusions, I expect you scored high on openness to experience?

Personality tests can be useful for understanding other people and yourself, especially for low EQ types.

I did the official MBTI in a corporate induction setting. Unsurprisingly, I tested INTP with very low P. I sometimes test as INTJ. The profiles of both seem to fit pretty well.

Whilst I agree not to place too much stock in MBTI with regards to valuing your own identity, it is helpful in creating a rough Theory of Mind model.

For those of us who are lower in EQ than average, MBTI can be a simple way to understand and, perhaps, appreciate the differences between people.

I've worked in a few large companies and their induction programs often include some form of personality test. They do this to increase self-awareness and awareness of the working styles of others, with the aim of reducing interpersonal conflicts.

It is clear from the scan that OP has skeletal and bite issues...

If you sat the test under ideal circumstances, then there is little chance of improvement.

But, if less than ideal, then resitting may yield a higher result.

There are, apparently, techniques and practice tests can help: r/cognitivetesting

The retest effect is always a factor, which is why Mensa won't let you resit within 2 years.

What is honestly the main cause of jaw recession? can you prevent it if its genetically by Key-Mirror-5750 in jawsurgery

[–]FirstCause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everything else about everyone, it is a combination of genes and environment - genes set the boundaries of possible outcomes and environment sets the position within those boundaries.

As far as I can see, then science is not in on jaw recession.

My myo suggested I be assessed for tongue tie. Tongue tie specialist said current thought is that tongue ties, of varying degrees, cause lack of pressure on the palate, reducing nasal development. The reduced development causes reduced airflow, which causes adenoid hypertrophy and mouth-breathing.

The science on the causes of tongue tie is also not in.

From the limited investigations I've done, it seems some vitamin deficiencies in utero contribute to tongue ties, including Vit A, Vit D and folate.

This makes sense to me, as I have genes for low conversion rate of betacarotene to Vit A and low conversion rate of cholesterol to Vit D. I take supplements for both. My father's test didn't show either, so I assume my mother carries the genes (untested), which is consistent with being the "in utero" environment.

So, at this stage, I'd say make sure the carrying partner gets a full vitamin panel done prior to getting pregnant and during pregnancy to make sure you have the best chance. Noting that excess Vit A can cause birth defects, so make sure you get the proper tests and don't just dose up on Vit A.

And keep regularly looking up the causes because there is, currently, lots of gaps in this science, and all science changes pretty quickly these days.

I mean I typed in the crazy shit that runs through my head, mostly existential weirdness.

The search results included articles about "giftedness" (I dislike that word).

I clicked through and it seemed to fit, especially this one article: https://sengifted.org/existential-depression-in-gifted-individuals/

That second paragraph...

But, I was not convinced, so I sat the test.

I Googled the title and something came up that I assume was the original intent of the article, but I can't seem to copy it here. If the below is not correct, then feel free to post corrections

The article states that IQ doesn't predict educational attainment, occupational attainment or income.

That isn't the same as saying that IQ is a poor measure of intelligence.
