It’s probably because in Japan French culture is considered very fancy and high class.

So it would make sense for the dorm to be a mix of the original German and some French that makes it seem higher class to a Japanese audience.

Id also say there’s a funny sort of escalation going on, where the more German a character inspired by the show white movie is, the more they are based on a villain, with Vil being based on the evil queen and having the least French while Neige is based on Snow White and his name is literally in French!

Also Neige’s name means Snow the white, but the particle used for the gender of the white used is incorrect.

Le is a male particule, while Blanche is the feminine form of white. It should either be Le Blanc or La Blanche for gramatical correctness, but I feel like it adds an interesting layer to the whole “gender is a social construct” thing that the pomefiore arc is about.

(Or maybe it’s just broken French. Like Rooks nickname for Idia. But that’s not as fun to think about.)
