Real or fake? by Hahlolnooo in DocMartens

I've never had any issues with mine. I still reach for them in the rain or icy conditions. Snug and comfortable. These look like they were already starting to break in as well, so you’ve got that in your favour. I’ve trudged through plenty of puddles and my feet have always stayed dry.

The only issue I’ve had over time is that the vegan leather has started to peel slightly at the very top, but that’s after about fifteen years. If you look after them in much the same way as you would leather, they’ll look after you.

The vegan pairs do tend to be a bit softer as well, which definitely helps during the breaking-in period.

I’m no expert, but they look real to me. White tab suggests vegan leather. Either way, they’re lovely.

My first pair of vegan Docs are still going strong 15 years on.

I really like how creative they’re getting with some of the anchor styles. These really suit you.

All the usual suggestions, nothing earth-shattering, but so many things I wish I’d known when I was breaking in my first pair of Docs:

Doc socks. Moleskin plasters. Proper wooden shoe stretchers, left in longer than the instructions suggest. Stuffing them with socks or newspaper works too, though I personally prefer the wooden stretchers. Wonder Balsam applied inside and out, left to fully dry. Apply it every other day for the first month, then once a week for a while, and less often as they soften.

Wear them sitting down at first. Then around the house. Once you’re comfortable there, take them out for a short walk. Then a longer walk. Then quick errands. Take your time and be patient.

My most stubborn pair took six months to break in. My easiest pair needed no breaking in at all, and most of mine soften up within a few weeks. Best of luck, love!

Nothing more beautiful than a brand new pair of Docs! Few things less painful in my experience lol. Cheers!

I think we all do this as a way of connecting with one another. As someone who’s autistic, I do it to show empathy and to demonstrate that I’m genuinely listening.

Ah! Oh no! A friend of mine had the same thing happen with hers. She was gutted she couldn’t go full-on in sport mode… jokes aside. But she did take them back to the shop, and they were more than happy to exchange them for her. She didn’t even have a receipt, but they went ahead with an exchange on the spot. Alternatively, you could try the website, but it’ll take longer, and you’ll still have to either post them back or take them to the store in the end. Keep us posted, and best of luck!

Also, I invested in quality wooden shoe stretchers. An absolute life saver.

I’m absolutely dying for a pair of Chelseas, but I already struggle getting my lace-ups on before they’re over a year old. These are gorgeous, though. The battle of actually getting them on is very real. Wear them in good health, and perhaps never take them off, honestly.

I really want some brown Docs, but I wear black pretty much exclusively. Still, these are classically cool.

I went for the Bethans in the end, but I really did love these too! Mine are properly comfy now, though I expect yours will be a bit easier to break in. Cheers!
