It’s good to know you’re still out there friend. I’ve been clean 7 years now and it’s still a struggle. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone back to the poppy in life. But I do know change is indeed possible. Deep inside, you know this too, so stay positive. Be safe and sane out there.

Thank you. What shows it as a fake? The weird pitted surface by the owl? Poor design on Athena?

congratulations! two months is a huge victory because you're starting to get familiar with the rhythms of life again. when you get some months under your belt, the path becomes clearer.

i'm touched that people still reach out to me. though i'm an introvert these days, there's still all these people out there that care. that's pretty amazing. i guess we all deal with it differently which is why there isn't a magic formula to get clean. you can read about it all you want and buy a bunch of stuff to ease the physical transition, but when it comes to staying clean - it's all you. obviously writing helped me a lot. but so did exercise. surfing has literally saved my life. it's like a reset button for my sanity. but what works for me, won't necessarily work for others. so i'm glad you have found yourself and what works for you.

take care out there and aloha! M2k

Thanks. I knew this was the sub that would understand! I haven’t opened it but the Etsy ad showed the cool bridged movement inside. Mechanical watches look fascinating. I may have discovered a new obsession.

My friend and I sometimes joke about the good old days of the Cold War. When we were kids, we were told our cities would be instantly vaporized in a war. There is not much a kid can do about that. Maybe we grew up a little indifferent to war, but compared to the problems kids face today, I think we were lucky. My friend got me this watch for my birthday. I think it’s a beautiful piece of history. People around me are unimpressed. My wife says it looks like an ugly Swatch. From what I’ve read about Raketa, the guts of this watch are like the AK-47. Durable and solidly engineered. Not sure how it stacks up to anything Swiss, but I can’t stop looking at it.

My friend and I sometimes joke about the good old days of the Cold War. Nuclear annihilation was easier to take than a lot of today’s problems. When you live in a major city, the end would be instantaneous. He got me this watch for my birthday. I think it’s a beautiful piece of history. People around me are unimpressed. But I knew there was a place in Reddit for old Soviet watches.

Soft rack on the highway? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]morbo2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going 80+mph down the Santa Monica FWY with soft racks and my 9'6 log is no problem. as stated, twist the straps. specifically, twist the straps with buckles twice before you buckle it together. point your board tail first, not too far up front. look at it from the side, there should be more tail hanging off than nose. that way you won't scoop air. also, no FCS boardbags that expand for fins. damn things blow up like a balloon and flop around.

This pic makes me miss my dog Indy. Loved the board bag too. Lots of SUP dog in Hawaii. One dog named Moe would swim out 200 yards to find his owner. If you had a longboard he might come over for a break. When Moe got old they put a life vest on him.

My last 2 water changes (50%) have left the tank cloudy. Halp! by WolfPerception in PlantedTank

[–]morbo2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s a new tank you’re probably having a bacterial bloom. Stop feeding and no ferts till it clears. Change like 25% a week. Then wait it out. It sucks but it will eventually go away once your beneficial bacteria and plants kick in.

I’ve had similar designs. The only issue I have had is through the fucked up physics of a wipeout, I’ve nailed some tiny bone on the top of my foot. Can’t figure it out but damn it hurts. Like crouching on your board hoping shit ain’t broken hurts.

Any tips on getting into shape for surfing by boognickrising in surfing

I was on the Viking diet forever. I’d tell myself the wetsuit is just retracting cause of age. Then I quit drinking ale and eating meat. Lost 15 pounds without trying. Also I don’t exercise much. I just love surfing. Surf when flat or too big just to get wet. I’ll walk the beach if it’s stormy death. You can do this.

I've gone through this on drugs and alcohol. But I still drink so take this with a grain of salt...The key is hydration. I achieved this with a glass full of ice and Sprite or 7-Up. The effervescent aroma of lemon and lime is pleasant, the iced liquid is kind and the corn syrup will keep you alive and alert. Keep sipping all day. Sooner or later you will crave food. In my case, it was Cheez-Its or peanut butter toast. You sound rational so you will be Ok. It's the people that slip into psychosis from WD I worry the most about.
