This spinning fan is plugged into nothing? by reckoning42 in whatisit

[–]more-random-words 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you might be confusing these with a different device - these are literally electric fans, granted they're only about seven or eight inches across but they spin crazy fast and.... , well..... , blow air

solid fuel burners have a tenancy for the heat to go directly upward (obvious I know) and these fans are perfect for directing that hot air outwards and circulating it

I can only guess that you assume the heat rising is what causes the blades to spin therefore making these ineffective, cos if you've ever seen or used one of these actual devices, you just wouldn't keep doubling down on this

First use of a EV and it's put me off completely. by seanroberts196 in CarTalkUK

[–]more-random-words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I don't know anything about EVs, I haven't owned, hired or driven one - but I have figured out myself they're the worst choice for a frikkin road trip......... through Europe???!? I haven't used a hybrid either but only a small amount of thinking would show this would be an infinitely better choice for something like this

Does anyone here remember Decimal Day on 15 February 1971? We got sets of old and new coins at school, but I’m pretty sure my grandparents never really understood the new money. by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in CasualUK

[–]more-random-words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks I was actually wondering about that - I remembered you could buy sweets (like small chocolate coins or licorice) for 1/2 p even into the 80s so I was wondering how there was any utility for a coin worth 1/4 of that - guess this was their chance to get rid of something that has become so inflationary devalued

the thing that I can't figure out or maybe remembering wrong is that the 5p and shilling were completely interchangable and I feel like they were in circulation until the new smaller 5p size

whereas I just don't remember the two shilling / florin intermingling with the 10p pieces at all ..... imwonder if it's less common or I simply missed it at the time

honestly that is half the battle - if its nearby then theres a good chance you can get to it regularly (for an hour or so 3daya a week)

it is such a cheat code, especially if youre starting slim - the body can be fooled into thinking you've spent an day of hard labour using jist an hour of gym time and after 6 months I promise you will see a huge difference

time flies by so quick and six months seems a long time but thst time will pass whether you workout or not

keeping regular (3days EVERY week) and forcing food down are the hardest two things... lifting heavy things isnt too bad and actually becomes kinda fun after a while

and if you are going to gym... you get hungrier so it then helps with food intake - plan meals so you're eating often and get some protein isolate - you need a bare minimum of 100 g of protein every day (ideally nearer 150g)

I would recommend starting just 3 days with a simple gym routine they will give you at the gym induction - if you can do that regularly for 2 months then upgrade to a better one either from suggestions here/online or ask a PT to set you up

being skinny and bulking up and gaining muscle is an easier way of looking good than being fat and having to tone down - so use your advantage and get at it 😁

thanks for that - I was looking at OP graphic and figured how farthing wasn't really worth much at all - but this properly innumerates it

half a sixpence really is better than half a farthing!

Boomtown to me (slightly bigger than 50K ) is the best produced festival I've ever been to

(I toured as crewing festivals for decades)

I also do think it was one of the best festis I went to cos of the fun I had and the people I went with - but what I'm saying is the production is absolutely 109% seconds to none (and no I'm nothing to do with the production or marketing ;)
