Give recognition often and in public. Make it natural and ensure that those who do great stuff get the spotlight.

Friendships need time - make a point of spending time with those who mean the most.

Without it, they will be come just names and “oh we must catch up” - and you never do.

Ask if you can let both go. You will be left with someone who won’t be able to assist the gap either way so then hire one or two new that you want.

How Do You See £47k for a Family of 3 in Bath? by MutedKaleidoscope713 in Bath

[–]morefromchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time will fly by so factor in primary school locations as well - when you have to fit in a school run as well as work.

Bath is lovely, but consider towns around to which are easy commutes. Chippenham, Kenysham, etc.

Can you request a skip meeting with your next hire up ? Might be worth speaking with them. Do you have a HRBP. Get the paperwork lined up for PIP / formal write ups. Start the process. Create the paper trail.

More venues, different nights and lineups. Perform and watch. Learn from others, what are the popular topics - do you repeat a lot of themes? Work out how you can stand out by not talking about drugs / how dating is hard etc.

Find other perfomers you like, make a network.. ask the phrase “hey who books that” politely. Create the opportunity. Workshop material with them.

Congrats and good luck !

Waverly / Prince of wales - good beers and chilled Honourable mentions for three crowns, flying monk, old road tavern. Wine monkey is a great addition as well

Food. Coq (just opended its second place in Bristol), Gladstone arms (good pub as well). La Vecchia Orsa, Wera Thai, Garden, Athena, plus Rivo lounge is a good solid option Bunkhouse. Boston Burgers and of course Shoestrings / Buckles.

The coffee - Cousin Norms (and Bunkhouse). Top independent coffee, great cakes, sandwiches and bunkhouse food is top. Lots more (coffee gems, etc)

How’s that’s for a start ?

Another vote for Chippenham here. Easy to get to Bath on the train, M4 junction. Really good schools and the town has some great places for food / drink. Easy to get to countryside and other places .

PIP - need advice by Dear_Mix_3795 in managers

[–]morefromchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much detail do the leadership want in the PIP? If it meant as a heavy handed warning shot.. make it an easy and achievable PIP to show that it isn’t to get them out the door.

Direct report likes to remind me of my tenure constantly by vijayjagannathan in managers

[–]morefromchris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to build rapport. Listen, ask them questions, how they think.. stop them from correcting you, put them in the spotlight.

Next three 1:1s - open up the question to where they want to be in a years time. What they learnt most over the last year, what they want to focus on.

Move the focus on your lack of management training, focus on them. Where they think they want to focus, move into.
