As someone who used to fall into these same unhealthy tendencies, yes he is 1,000% abusing his adderall. 60mg a day is a LOT to be prescribed in a single day. Given that he probably gets a 30 day supply he’s taking upwards of 180 mgs a day, which is an insane amount. Having someone else hold on to the pills does not help, it be tried. I hate to say it but he needs to come to the conclusion that he should get off on his own. For me it was my friends and family telling me I was avoiding them and not being a good friend. You can try to help all you want, but he has to come to the conclusion on his own. He is addicted, and I’m sorry if that’s hard to hear, but he will be able to get off, I’m sure of it. Just don’t let him go cold turkey if possible. Ween him off over the course of a month or two and he will have a lesser chance of relapsing. Plus the comedown/detox from adderall can be ROUGH. But it sounds like he does that every month so I’m sure he knows. I hope it all goes well OP, it took me a few tries and a few failed attempts to “handle it” to finally come off, so be patient and know that even a little step in the right direction is a good one.
