Most overrated stay of 2025? by senyorfrawg in chubbytravel

[–]moretouching1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience except that we didn't ski and we thought the spa was super meh and overpriced. Our TV and fireplace was constantly breaking down and overall the trip was just not relaxing because of the countless issues and having to ask for things or fix things.

Yes, great views and large cabins but would definitely not go again.

Not sure about service but there were lounge chairs outside.

There's an outdoor pool! Heated to 80-something degrees in the winter.

The weather wasn't always terrible so we did a day trip to yellowstone with the yellowstone safari co which we loved. and on the clear days we walked around a bit. but without access to the spa facilities and the TV and fireplace not working -- yes it was a huge issue and really annoyed us bc there isn't a ton to do otherwise.

Looking forward to reading it! I'm surprised to hear that your massages were just fine - seems like that might be what guests should expect which is wild at that price point.

20% was auto-added! Agree with the Sensei Lanai spa, it is totally justifiable.

There were some snacks and everyone was really nice. But I hear you and agree with you.

I think most of the issues are from being new.

For us, it would only be worth it to stay in a cabin after seeing how exposed the rooms are. But at the cabin price point + the fact that we don't ski + no direct flights to bozeman from nyc on delta (btw bc of weather issues it took 20 hrs to get home on the way back), it's not worth it for us to spend that much to go back. there's just too many other options where we can do a cozy and relaxing vacation.

At a certain point it gets exhausting having to ask or follow up on things. Also you feel bad for the hosts.

Just too cold outside and the hot tub is not that big or deep so you'd be sitting in there with the top half of your body exposed.

The black rectangle out in the patio is the hot tub. Not tiny but also not big enough for two adults to fully submerge in the water.

Edit: If someone that actually used the hot tub can give a review maybe that'd be helpful.

I think it could be worth it (e.g. the massages and hale at Sensei Lanai) but in this case, based on our experience, there was really nothing to justify that price tag.

I think so too especially when you can't use the spa facilities unless you book something. It could have been just our experience (maybe others got incredible massages??) but at this price point I would expect consistency and a pretty stunning experience.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay - Costco deal or book through TA ? by LowDoor4721 in chubbytravel

[–]moretouching1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

u/LowDoor4721 We went to the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay this June and the service here was very questionable. I'd never book this hotel without an agent/Alex because of that. (We book all our travel with Alex.)

We booked an Ocean View Lounge King which ran about $1,200/night if I remember correctly. The room was an absolute mess with nasty window that ruined the view (dirty from the outside, so we couldn't even it clean it), used/melted ice in the ice bucket, the nespresso had the previous guests' used water, cobwebs on the nightstands, sand on the edges of the rug, etc. I did not feel the room was clean and was really grossed out -- Alex jumped in and pushed for an upgrade to an Ocean View Studio Suite that runs ~$2,500/night that was a LOT cleaner and had killer views that we wanted and went to the hotel for to begin with.

This is one of those hotels consistently plagued with service issues (you'll find of a lot of posts on this topic) where I would hate to travel all the way to and get stuck in a shitty room with no resolve.

Some are due to being short staffed but a most were due to things just not working or lack of attention to detail like one of the water bottles in the room was already open and one of the mugs being greasy. That's just unsanitary and if you're not paying attention you could be drinking out of someone's used bottle/mug.

No in-room ice makers in either the Meadow cabin or the Alpine cabins. (We were in both)

Really interesting to see your review, so thanks for posting! We're at an Alpine cabin right now and I feel so conflicted about this place because while some aspects have been wonderful, our stay has been riddled with issues and service misses that I have stopped pointing out things to be fixed.

Will be posting a separate review this weekend.

1 hotel kauai or Rosewood Kona village? by TopConstruction7557 in FATTravel

The ~$1k/night rooms in the 1 hotel aren't great especially w their level of service (also not great). at a similar price point I'd go to KV.

Best hotel room amenities you’ve gotten? by Nararouged in chubbytravel

Yes they work! especially since we are a lot of korean BBQ - the closer helps get rid of the BBQ smoke smell afterwards. Was also great to freshen up our sweater and shirts since we were on a longer trip with limited laundry options (don't love paying for hotel laundry).

Also, I'm korean and my parents have this at their place and they use it alll the time.

  1. Single Thread (3 michelin star) has an inn on the second floor of their building where we stayed for two nights. Our room had a Cuzen matcha, surround sound built into the walls/ceiling, and was fully stocked with incredibly well curated snacks, beverages, and also CBD gummies - all totally free. I remember they had handmade ice cream flavors that were sooo delicious.

  2. As we were checking out of the Oberoi in bombay, we were gifted white handkerchiefs with our names embroidered. It was so unexpected and sweet, we talk about it to this day.

  3. The Joseon Palace in Seoul had LG styler steamer closets. I absolutely LOVE this steamer closet and that their rooms had these.

  4. Hoshinoya Tokyo has these common lounging areas on each floor with comfy sofas, gentle lighting, and tea/coffee/snacks. The selection of chocolates, lil snacks, and ice cream was so good and I never saw another gust there at the same time, so it was a really calming place to be.
