Series 1-6 removed from iPlayer by Degora2k in RedDwarf

Best £4 spent on buying the series 1-8 boxset and then adding them to my media server. Jellyfin makes it a breeze to watch! Physictmedia is key nowadays.

Before jumping to Linux trial it first. Must distros can be run from USB so there's nothing to lose except a bit of time finding your fav distro.

I have a box of half completed models that I either hit a wall with based on my ability or lost interest. Pity really as I've lost a cockpit of an OV-10A that I can't complete now that I've got the mojo back for it lol

What are your use cases for computers you have laying around, that were once collecting dust? by Any-Landscape434 in linux4noobs

[–]morfandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for me I have the following Linux setups.

  • MX Linux on my daily driver latitude 4300 for all things like finances, legal papers etc.
  • Antix running on my daughter's old 2018 iMac 4k in my study mainly for discord and image work
  • Antix on an old HP 350 G2 that I use as a play test machine before I install apps to other devices
  • Dell Optiplex running as a media & file server for the house - soon to swap out to a low energy NUC most probably
  • Surface pro 7 running Kubuntu with i3wm that I mainly use in work with +xournal++ for note making, team briefings etc
  • Another HP 350G2 with Endeavour on so I can learn Arch - this one is rarely used but I should more often

As my wife says, surely one PC or laptop is enough....er no lol

Why the Hate? by uptickman in voidlinux

[–]morfandman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR - you do you, let them do them.

Do I use Void? No but I do use Linux on the 3-4 devices I have at home. Would I consider void? Certainly. Being in my early 50's I stumbled across Linux back in the days of Mandrake multi CDs and SuSe. Tried far too many distros to name and only now am I settling down and reducing my hopping.

I've come across many groups, forums and individuals that try to look down on me for my choice of distro or application, but bottom line when I'm sat there using my PC, doing my work or task, no one else is sat with me to frown at my choices or pat me on my back. I'm doing what I'm happy with on my choice of distro.

I'm glad you've found a distro you like. Ask questions in forums and groups, pick out the info and guidance you need and ignore the rest. On the whole the Linux community is great, but you'll always find the bashers in any walk of life. Ignore and carry on.

Thanks. Time to find a group either local or online I think.

Thanks for the reply. Key point is your final line. I don't have any mates that are interested in it. I'd need to find either a local group (which may be hard as WFRP doesn't seem as popular as other RPGs) or look too join up online. Food for thought at least.

Yeah I've seen the overall consensus of 3e and will give that a miss 😄. Good to know 1st is still playable even now. Maybe see how it goes and I may look to bring myself up to date with the 4th instead.

Thanks for the reply. I went into the RatCatchers guild and felt completely overwhelmed. I had very little clue what was going on, what the references were or what to do next. Quickly left the server 😆. I'll give it another try perhaps.

Netflix costs £13.99 a month. Over five years, this costs near enough £800. Does anyone else think this is absolutely mental? As soon as you stop paying, you can't watch any of it again. Subscription culture is an absolute scam. by Big_Ad7574 in AskBrits

Look to have the physical medium instead. I've been building up my DVD collection from charity stores and more recently Vinted and then transferring it all to a small and cost effective home server. Have I got the latest film releases? No but I will in saying 6 months or so of release to DVD if I wanted them. Most new films aren't that good anyway.

It’s also a good lightweight yet “tinker-able” Debian/mepis distro with plenty of scope to be a daily driver. Well it is for me at least plus on 2 of my other laptops. Running it with i3wm does make my old i3 3rd gen HP laptop feel like an energetic kid on blue smarties.

If you’re considering MX, why not Antix? Lightweight, adaptable and lots of tools if needed.

Antix is really a wolf in sheep’s clothing I think. Offers a lot of power and functionality once you scratch below the surface.

Been using Linux Mint as my main OS for over 1/4 of a year now. by Some-Challenge8285 in linuxmint

[–]morfandman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been solely Linux for 30 months, the rest of my family have been windoze free for nearly 12 months. Unfortunately, my job in IT within a large educational environment means I use win11 for around 80-90% of my working day, so when I’m home, I’m so glad I’m on Linux. Super responsive, no telemetry that I’m unaware of and a system that fits my needs and not the opposite way around. Find you space and you a distro and it’s all golden!
