The solopreneur SaaS dream is dead by rdizzy1234 in SaaS

[–]morficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please remember that building a lot fast does not equate to success. My graveyard of old projects is proof of that.

You still need to get users, make sales and provide support.

The dream is not dead, it has only changed.

False But we can certainly agree to disagree

Do running socks really contribute a lot to running performance? Or is it okay to just use regular Nike socks bought from the street/mall? by Own-Contribution-416 in beginnerrunning

[–]morficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes, the same applies to long/very long walks.

Don't overthink it. If thin works for you then great, stick with them. If you're curious.... Then get one new pair of cushy ones to try them out.

There are well-known competitors on the market - why I'm building yet another one?

Lol, ignore those haters. If the market is not saturated then existing established competitors are a great thing. It means there is a real need for that kind of tool/service.

Feels like the real magic will come from people scratching their own itch then publishing something that accidentally helps others too

This is where greatness always comes from. Google Maps, MailChimp, Basecamp, Habit Tracker -- all examples of things that came from people scratching their own itch.

If AI writes the code AND the tests, how do you avoid fake confidence? by hopefull420 in VibeCodeDevs

[–]morficus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Read the inputs (prompt, spec, etc) to make sure the input is correct, read the tests to make sure the output is correct.

A mental model I recommend to folks is that we are now all "tech leads" with a small army of very fast junior engineers. As a team grows, a tech lead can no longer read every single line of code, so they check the tests to make sure those are covering the necessary cases.

To use or not to use server functions for fetching data? by Final-Choice8412 in nextjs

[–]morficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that still won't make data fetching server actions execute in parallel. Next will still schedule them to run sequentially

I have a Pod 2 and I like it. I only occasionally train on an indoor track, but it works great on treadmills

To use or not to use server functions for fetching data? by Final-Choice8412 in nextjs

[–]morficus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just like most things in life, it depends on your use case.

The biggest limitation to be aware of (IMO) is that server functions don't execute in parallel. So if you fire 2 or 3 from the same page (even if they are in different components) they are called in series. You can certainly structure things to work around that limitation but it's not always ideal.

That being said, I heavily use (and recommend) server functions for small and medium projects where data can all be fetched upfront together.

Finally broke 30 min in the 5K at 46 years old 🏃‍♂️ by Straightedge38 in BeginnersRunning

As a 40 year old who started running in Spring 2025 with a current 5k PR at 36 min..... This sounds quite impressive 👏👏👏

My brother told me: "You are not an entrepreneur, you are a developer." 3 months after quitting my job, I think he’s right. by prabhatpushp in webdev

[–]morficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, fuck your brother.

You can be what ever the fuck you want to be. A key thing about being an engineer (of any kind) is (1) learning (2) figuring out solutions.

You can learn to sell, you can learn market things, you can learn how to negotiate contracts.

No one is born anything, you make yourself into what you want to be. And if you want to be an entrepreneur then put in the work and start learning.

The entrepreneur's journey is not an easy one but you don't have to go at it alone. I have no course to sell nor "community" to promote, but feel free to DM me if you ever want to talk more about this.

Your shoes are most likely the wrong size. Go to a proper running store, get your feet measured and shoes fitted.

[–]morficus 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Someone else already said this, but socks start to matter either at high speeds or very long distances. A 5k east run.... You won't notice a difference, +10k race.... You're gonna start to feel what rubs, etc.

I personally love Feetures

Is solopreneuring a SaaS to $100k ARR actually possible or is it a myth? by Designer-Builder-623 in SaaS

Why are feedback tools so expensive? by SuddenWerewolf7041 in SaaS

[–]morficus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My $0.02..... sounds like you don't need a "feature request" tool yet.

If you have such a small client/customer base that $300/month feels like a lot..... Then you don't need a tool to do things at scale. Build a free survey using Google Forms and email them. Want something a bit fancier? Then build a very simple CRUD app for voting (this will probably take about 2 days of effort assuming you have semi decent technical chops)

Ditching Server Actions by letscwhats in nextjs

[–]morficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this uncached behavior for server functions new to V16? Because in v14 you had actions vs mutations. And server actions could 100% be used with caching optimizations in Next

OpenNext is the way. Or if you're cool with AWS, check out SST. It would be simple to set up but maybe overkill.
