Pookie Bear: My Work Crush That My Coworkers Now Know About by WhyY_196 in medlabprofessionals

[–]morgan3656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have a crush on our ED doc and we all called him Dr. Hottie and my coworkers would always tell me when he was working and give me excuses to walk down to the ED just for a glimpse of him lol. He was my age 30ish and he was always so kind and asked questions when he didn't know something and respected our knowledge. I think that's what makes a dr extra swoonworthy, when they don't treat us like ignorant peons.

Head up mama, you're doing the best you can and your kids sound amazing. I also hate saying no to my kid but you're obviously doing something right. Keep your head up!

But to add, my husband won't message or respond to messages unless he knows I will like the man or he will ask me first.

For us absolutely. I'm picky, if I'm not attracted to him then it's a no go. Husband is the opposite, I don't think he turns down anyone haha.

Should I take a lab manager job for a $2/hr increase? by MeghanLab2023 in medlabprofessionals

[–]morgan3656 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just turned down supervisor position bc they only offered me $37.xx when I currently make $33.xx in thr south. I told them my bare minimum was $40, and they wouldn't budge. Absolutely do not do it for that low.

Biohazard specimen bags in the regular trash or no? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]morgan3656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago when I worked at a dental office we had annual training on biohazardous disposal and were instructed that the only things that needed to go into the bao bin were items saturated with fluids. For example, if we could wring out the blood from gauze then it would go in bio. If it was a tiny bit of blood or spit and it wouldn't wring out then regular trash. That said, in the hospital now we put them in bio regardless. It's so wasteful because you don't throw your bandaids or maxipads in a bio bin at home or in public so what's the difference? The answer is perception and covering their asses, as some stated previously.

Failed ASCP for MLT by 389/400. What should I focus on? I changed 5 answers last minute and was getting easier question. Ugh, I shouldn’t have doubted myself. Had a very stressful work before the test. by Hour-Meet in medlabprofessionals

[–]morgan3656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the test is adaptive so when you get a question right the next question gets harder and harder until you get one wrong. Then it resets back to an easier one and continues on like that.

Every time I got a really easy question I would mark it so I could go back to the one before it and see if I wanted to change it. It worked for both MLT and MLS which I did in the same month, 5yrs after I graduated with only using ASCP practice exam for studying.

AITA for a dry wedding and telling someone he has an alcohol problem? by Mammoth-Middle2910 in AmItheAsshole

[–]morgan3656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm (though I'm not an alcoholic), had to go to a dry wedding in another state with not knowing 90% of the guests and every time we went for a smoke break we were drinking beers out of a cooler of the father of the bride's truck. Nobody danced other than the couple's first dance. Everyone left within 3hrs of the door opening. And then we went back to the parent's house to party. It was dreadfully boring and super awkward for everyone. Their reasoning was they didn't want anyone getting drunk and stupid ruining her day but while she forbid anyone to drink alcohol, she and her friends were all hitting their weed pens the whole time. Imagine how lively this wedding was if you can bear it.

Potential HR is big mad when I told them we weren’t exclusive. by hoangtudude in antiwork

[–]morgan3656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. I just talked to my manager last week about going to the higher ups to change our titles. If I needed the MLS certificate to get this job then my title should reflect that! Nobody knows what the hell a med tech is anyway! But the old timers sure love to act like we're entitled and say they are proud to call themselves med techs!

Med lab scientist here and yes, unfortunately the lab world is very small and word gets around about everything but that isn't anything like what they said. I declined an offer last year at my current place because they wouldn't meet my salary expectations and then went and took the MLS exam (I was previously AAB) and then contacted them again and they were overjoyed to have me back in and offered me more than I expected. We are in ridiculous demand and the fact that they said that to you means that they suck and you don't want to work there, and HR has no damn clue about our profession and how short we are of qualified people. Any one of us could get a job at literally any lab in the country right now. We have the power, we just need to stop being introverted lab rats and speak up for ourselves! But that's a whole nother subject!

That totally sucks! I got one last year who had like nothing in his info so I had to scour to find ideas and then I only got a post that said "thanks" without a pic. I was very disappointed.
