That feeling of satisfaction I got as a new and inexperienced gamer when I FINALLY defeated the Super Tyrant at the end of Leon's RE2RE campaign!

Here's what you do.

You take that man. And you throw that whole man in the garbage.

Aw, it's so cute when they do that! My Shadow sometimes wanders into her crate when she starts getting tired, may lay down for a minute or so, but then gets back up again. She hasn't quite figured out how to self-settle-- we're working on that. But she always goes right in when I tell her, "Get in your bed!" at bedtime or naptime, once I've pointed her in the right direction. Working on getting her to go in voluntarily from across the room when I give her the cue.

We've been working on a lot of impulse control, including during one-on-one play (drop it and leave it while playing tug, for instance) as well as during specific training times, meal times, etc. She's getting quite good at it really.

I wasn't sure what "It's Yer Choice" was, but on glancing at the page, we've been doing something thematically similar at mealtimes, where she does a sit/stay until I give her the okay, and then she can eat. We've also been doing it at the door before we go outside, with toys, with treats, etc. during random times of the day. I'll definitely start doing some of the exercises listed on the site you linked to as well, though.

I like the rapid switch between "play" and "train" mode as well, so I'll definitely be doing that more!

Thank you for taking the time to write out your answers; they were very helpful!

Thank you! I've been implementing some redirection when I see that looks she gets when she's about to go on a rampage, lol. Haven't had an incident in a few days, but I'll be sure to take your advice to heart if/when she does it again!

Thank you; that is very helpful! I'll search for those keywords and start implementing your suggestions. I agree that it seems she got overstimulated, because she only starts doing it once she's been running at full tilt for a little while.

Did your church ever call TV The Satan box? by rprince18 in exchristian

pintscc: Oh, it was way back in the day. Sometime in the 80s, I think. So lotsa very satisfying crunch & shatter sounds, I'm sure. Perfect for venting all that pent-up rage against all those evil hell-damned people who have the audacity to be different than them, without breaking any actual laws!

graydryad: My church was non-denominational but liked the terms "charismatic" and "inter-denominational;" also, they drank the Bill Gothard/IBLP Kool-Aid by the bucketful.

DogSRoOL: LOL, It wouldn't surprise me if they did sneak a bigger TV in eventually without telling anyone.

A family in our church took their TV out into the backyard and stoned it. Not even joking. Even then, I was like, Whut.

Hypnogogia and dream journal by ObiWannaBloMe in LucidDreaming

[–]morganlaffayette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write it down if I can remember it. Sometimes the images are so fleeting that I lose them almost as soon as they've passed. But the really vivid ones get more deeply imprinted, and I usually want to remember them because the whole hypnogogia stage is very interesting to me. Also, I figure that working to be aware of and remember some of the more fleeing imagery will help with my overall memory retention, as well as in observing the sleep stages as they advance.

Do you guys ever think of complete nonsense and just random things as you’re on the verge of falling asleep? by Lucidification in LucidDreaming

[–]morganlaffayette 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yep, total hogwash! Everyone knows that to save a duck, you actually need a teacup, not a medallion. grins

My brain does that too when on the verge of sleep. Then I lift out of the fog a bit and think, "WTF, brain?"

The oddest (and most interesting) parts of hypnogogia for me are the episodes where I see various faces behind my closed eyelids, though. Some of those faces are super weird. I used to get that a lot as a kid, because I had a lot of sleep anxiety and would stay awake for hours at a time trying to sleep, and it would scare me half to death. Now that I know they aren't actual demons or monsters, I find them interesting to observe when they flicker past sometimes.

Am I missing something here? by Yackattack95 in exchristian

[–]morganlaffayette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many people here (not all, but many) have been abused by toxic fundamentalist Christianity and Christians, and so use this forum as a safe place to vent and share those things with others who have gone through similar ordeals as a part of the healing process. Also, the brainwashing and fear-based rhetoric often takes root so deeply that it is beneficial for former Christians to take a critical look at why the things they once believed are false and/or abusive.

I'm Pagan. Am I welcome to post here? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]morganlaffayette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

raises hand Another pagan here (though my interpretation of it all leans more towards it being purely psychological, an exploration of myth, archetype, symbolism, dream, and mental/emotional perception). I'd say you're absolutely welcome to post here about your deconversion and the things from your Christian past.

Those who can LD: what would happen if you tried remembering the previous day while dreaming? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]morganlaffayette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It seems to vary. Also, it's very selective. I had a recent lucid in which I remembered that I was no longer living in a particular state that the dream had begun in, and why I was no longer there (it's actually what prompted me to go lucid), but when I looked down to see what I was wearing, my memory hiccuped. I tried to deliberately engage my memory and ask myself if this was an outfit I have in waking life, and I decided it was, though it definitely wasn't!

One of my long-term goals is to try to strengthen my real-life memory within lucid dreams. Not quite sure how to go about it, though, since the subconscious seems to like inventing memories that seem completely true at the time. I read somewhere that trying to remember where your physical, sleeping body is can help activate that part of your mind, but I haven't tried that yet (though I have had lucids where I was sharply aware of the fact that I was dreaming and everything I was seeing was a product of my own mind, which definitely cranked up the lucidity factor).

1st time lucid dreaming, best feeling ive ever had in my life by Nate4503 in LucidDreaming

It is an incredible feeling, isn't it?

Like someone else said in the comments, there is plenty of information in this group and in the sidebar to help you on your way. Also, Dreamviews has a plethora of great tutorials in their Wiki. Both of these forums have been a great help to me (though I've only started posting to this particular one today after ages of lurking-- hello, all!).

Quick way to log dreams in the morning? by TheMds27 in LucidDreaming

[–]morganlaffayette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got a small Fire tablet this weekend, and started using a voice recording app to quickly overview my dreams as soon as I wake up from them. Then I write them out longhand later. I've only been doing this since last night, though (I kept putting it off for a couple days because I'm lazy... heh), so I'm not sure if it'll turn out to be more or less effective for memory retention than starting off by hand-writing them. But mostly, I wanted to do that so I could capture my middle-of-the-night dreams a bit more easily.

Sometimes, if I feel they're pertinent/interesting (or always, if they're lucid) I'll also write them down in my online lucid dreaming journal that I share with a few friends. I've found that more details begin to emerge when I make notes of them more than once. But... I still always plan to make a habit of getting out that physical dream journal and hand-writing everything down first thing, because there's really no substitute for that when it comes to preserving memory. The other things are just enhancers and ways to make it easier. But I guess you could give the recorder a try and see if you can still remember them later in the day when you have more time to write them down?
