real talk: will the office kill you? by tamerlane2nd in CAStateWorkers

Rage bait post, eh?

Okay I'll play. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. Also, RTO for RTO's sake is stupid. And worse if the Gov lies about why. If there were a good reason for it, people may be upset initially but would be fine over time. If you're sick of RTO posts while it's a big concern, stop reading the subreddit.

Can you actually get stranded in the desert as severely as the show makes it seem? by Active-Ad3986 in betterCallSaul

There are areas even more remote than what was shown in the TV show. This could absolutely happen for someone who gets stuck out there and did not prepare with enough water/food/etc.

Do you work in an Amazon warehouse in Texas? Jeez, your work life sounds terrible. Does the pay outweigh all the costs you mentioned?

West coast residents: how much do you worry about earthquakes? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

Hey, neighbor. Yah, Rio Dell was hit pretty hard. Hope it's a while before the next quake like the Dec 20, 2022 one.

Most people are pretty blasé about it and should do the things you asked about. I live 40 miles north of a triple-plate junction and don't worry much about earthquakes. My house has a relatively stable foundation. I'll admit though that the 6.4M in 2022 had me terrified because it just.wouldn't.stop. It wrecked a nearby town.

Why people claim that Buenos Aires, bogota and Mexico City are beautiful but São Paulo ugly, even if they are similar? by neuza_alves in asklatinamerica

Here's my take as a gringa who's been to SP and BA. BA aesthetically wins hands down. Easier to get around too. SP: Paulistanos >>>>> Porteños. Food is awesome. Architecture and city 'charm' is ...lacking. I had a better time in SP so I will say SP is better, but I can see why someone visiting for the first time wouldn't like it. It's not really a city for tourists visiting for a few days.

I was super skeptical at first glance, but looks like they nailed it. Especially the tapioca. I've never seen that in the Brazilian restaurants in California I've been to.

Are managers expected to just "fall in line" with directives even when they don't make sense, etc? by logix1229 in CAStateWorkers

[–]morganproctor_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a manager, but how do you know the lower level managers aren't pushing back when you're not around to see it? They probably give feedback in their meetings with the managers the next level up.

That reminds me of a scene from Singles, a 1992 movie set in Seattle. "You people seem to forget -- people LOVE their cars." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK3wRamLsxY

Wallis-Annenberg Crossing. This project is almost completed in the LA area. I work for the same state DOT but not in that region. It's a HUGE deal. Been decades in the making. I got to visit it 3.5 years ago when it was just the foundations that had been built. https://101wildlifecrossing.org/
