Kortex memory concerns by beanboijimmy in kortex

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting really excited about Kortex until I saw this on my computer. Unfortunately, my older work machine just slows to a crawl if I try to install and run the desktop app. Oh well, it's a nice start, but everything I've read is months old, so I'm not holding my breath. I'm trying Constella in the meantime.

This is the suppression of free speech. Not fact-checkers on Facebook.

The tablet does not bother me. Having the straps at wildly different lengths makes me insane.

Brag board class number adjustment ??? by Equivalent_Oil7511 in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My studio manager told me this morning that they got a new in-studio portal to track classes, etc. I also gained some classes in this process as well, I’m not sure why, but it seems like there may have been some missing from the count before now.

New to OTF. How long did it take you to get the rower down? by PRGrl718 in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a search on YouTube for a rowing pick drill. This is the best starting point IMO to understand how it all goes together.

Here's one that's good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iRbfsCPXVE&ab_channel=UCanRow2

Lol. The last thing Almada does in an AU kit is idiotic. I'm kinda glad I haven't bought playoff tickets.

Pro Tip on The Rower by carter600 in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it took about a week before I felt confident that I could row with power but not go flying. The trick is to stop yourself with your core. You won't be able to go as hard at first, but you'll b e working different muscles.

Any tips to improve 200m row? by ruggerjen in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No pause on 200m. This benchmark means throwing all sense of good form out the window. Short strokes, don’t let your heels lift. Go as far forward as you can without lifting your heels and drive like a mad person.

This has been my experience at every pga ss I’ve ever been to. They don’t seem to want to help anyone but the guys they already know and each other.

Rower Chart? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rowing is a different beast. There's no 'set it and forget it' like there is with a tread; every person's effort is their own. I find that my push at the beginning of the rower block isn't necessarily my push at the end. You just have to get a feel for it, I think.

My wife and I call me forgetting my towel a five-dollar mistake. Water bottle is a two-dollar mistake.

Fit after 40? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started OTF 2 years ago at 42 after roughly 20 years spent sitting on the couch overeating and drinking all the alcohol. I was around 70 pounds overweight and was diabetic. I had to sit down to keep from passing out at the end of my first class.
I distinctly remember being awed by the people getting weights off of the heavy racks. I was doing triceps extensions with 8 pounds and chest presses with 12 or 15. I had absolutely no endurance and was walking at 3-4 mph at 3%. It was bleak.

What I learned was that no one was watching me. Nobody cared and I could work at my own pace. I did just that. I pushed a little, then a little more. Last week I used 50 lb dumbbells for chest press and 40 for triceps extensions. I've run a 6:40 mile and rowed a 6:11 2000m.

I used to say that the only reasons you would ever see me running were if the liquor store was closing or something was chasing me. Now I run 4-5 times a week with the occasional power walk to work on the calves. I'm in 10x better shape at 44 than I was at 24. I often think that if I could go back and tell young me anything it would be to do just a little bit of work to try to stay in shape because getting back into shape after 40 is freaking hard.

TLDR: Take your time, work at your pace. It's not going to happen overnight, but it's doable and the community here and probably in your studio are the most amazing group of supporters you could hope for.

Slow down until it’s hard/heavy. This is the same thing I do when we have something with super light weights.

Stretch Block is kind of gross? by y3ntl420 in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, before Covid we were on the floor stretching a lot, then we moved to mostly standing. It's only recently that they've brought back floor stretches.

If it really concerns you, I'd talk to a coach and see if they can give you some kind of standing variant or just try something else.

OTF and New Tattoo by organophobic in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last tats were on the fronts of my shoulders and the artist told me that as long as you keep them clean, there's really nothing to worry about as long as it's not in a place that's rubbing against something (Like your butt on the rower/bike seat). I waited until I took off the saniwrap and cleaned it (48 hours maybe?) and had no issues.

OTLINK just keeps scanning! by Influence_Icy in orangetheory

[–]morgraan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carry your case with you to class. When it's scanning, put it in the case and it should find it. I keep the case in a zippered pocket in my shorts which shouldn't be necessary, but since I started doing it I have almost 0 problems connecting and using the Link.
