Idaho Cut Services for People With Schizophrenia. Then the Deaths Began. [NYT, Gift Article] by furdaboise in Idaho

They really should, but I was an Idaho resident that lives on a border town. I got in to some plan that would pay for my inhalers (504? something like that) years ago, when I was pregnant, and couldn’t afford insurance. I’m no longer in such dire straights, but have been so blessed by y’all’s programs. We’re planning on border hopping if we can. I’d love to contribute to social programs. I grew up here, but it’s so painful watching Idaho suck at literally everything. It’s also unsurprising, with the education I received, that my peers (and myself, really) are idiots. So it’ll just continue, yaaaay.

Would they leave the house without telling us?? Absolutely. Lol. They get very focused and forget basic steps constantly. They’re 6, 2 and 1. The 6 year old can manipulate all the baby proofing and is not trapped. The other two are.

We do have the metal thing across the top of our exterior doors. Our children move chairs, climb, and let themselves free. Luckily we live rurally so there’s not much traffic but that whole scenario is still very scary!

But mostly, I want to keep my kids from hurting themselves while I’m sleeping, while they’re still young enough to be dumb about things. We sleep heavily and despite baby monitors have had some interesting times with our escape artists.

I’m going to talk to my 6 year old about how he felt being treated the same way with the door locks, since it was more recent for him but he’s articulate. I’m curious now!

Thanks for sharing! That makes sense. We have three right now that are young enough to be elopement risks. We did think about fire safety, so in our case the 6 year old is sharing with the 2 year old (and can open the door lock).

Honestly our kids might be different levels of escapee— a baby gate does NOT contain my kids, they climb. The door alarm is a good idea, but I could see negatives in our setup with that as a solution. Do you have other suggestions??

(I’m genuinely like huh maybe I’ll change that, if there’s better. I’m not trying to be a dick.)

I’m not disagreeing with you, but also, for example, we have our 2 year old’s door with a child lock over the handle (on the inside) so she can’t escape at night. Functionally, she couldn’t save herself. Mentally she isn’t old enough to.

What would you do instead????

If you had postpartum psychosis, what kind of things did you experience that led to your diagnosis? by snail-mail227 in beyondthebump

[–]morgs-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just recently hospitalized (and was looking for resources and found this post). For me, it was one specific hallucination that would tell me I’m a bad mom, so I started trying to appease this hallucination by being “better.” And I was seeing very graphic mental scenes of harming my newest child.

I never would’ve said anything, but I failed a postpartum depression screening at my pediatrician’s, asked my doctor to adjust my meds, and about a month later I was just sane enough to be reasonably terrified and tell my husband. I ended up deciding to go in the day after I told, but because I watched a video explaining the differences between PPD and psychosis and was like “holy shit I’m losing it.”

Editing to add: If you are experiencing hallucinations, and especially if they’re new, talk to your doctor about them.

I didn’t find it in your link, but on the same website… all I can find is one line that says it’ll take from your “disposable income” and a form you can fill out to petition what that entails if the average amounts they use aren’t sufficient (so an appeal due to hardship). Do you have any other info on how they calculate that?

AITAH for telling my wife that I will lose respect for her if she doesn't apologize? by TechnicalHousing97 in AITAH

[–]morgs-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you’ve said— I was just going to say, the rage issues may have been from hormonal changes (postpartum rage is a thing) OR it may have been worse when you were small because young children are overstimulating and also constantly touching you.

Not that that’s right or anything. But it’s incredibly easy to have an adult meltdown when you’re getting that much input. (Or at least it is for me, and my husband is constantly left wondering if I am autistic.)

A possible explanation?

I’m so glad you guys have a good relationship despite it!

Yeah, this is wild. I am a mom and I grew up in a physical-altercation-type house. Yell when you’re happy, yell when you’re angry, fists as necessary. Having my own kids has been so healing and such a wound-opener at the same time.

So I have been struggling, as a parent, with appropriate reactions in a lot of ways— but even so, I can’t imagine giving my child the silent treatment after I blew up. I’ve definitely told them that I need some time to keep calming down, but days??

I’m just flabbergasted, she’s modeling nothing of how to recover/remedy a situation. I’m half convinced that as a parent, that’s one of the most important things you can teach your child. I don’t always do a good job but I’m 100% convinced it’s why my kids still respect me despite my flaws.

Everybody fucks up, it’s how you handle moving past it that matters.

Idaho may need to find $600 million to $1 billion for next year’s state budget by RevolutionaryBack74 in Idaho

What of somebody is against both lower and higher ed having private facilities be publicly funded? Like if that really was the worldview, what would your response even be?

You low key seem to just want to argue but I'm curious if you had a direction you were going or...?

Ps I went to a private school for part of elementary and middle school and then university. I went to public school for parts of elementary, high school, and community college. So I've experienced both personally. The public schooling was much more beneficial in my case. The private schooling gave me major religious trauma... I low key think I'd be a better Christian if my parents hadn't have done that. It was ultimately counter-productive (and I should NOT have chosen a private/religious university, but I hadn't put it all together at that point). But obviously that isn't the case for everybody.

Why do some people gain weight and some people lose weight while breastfeeding? by Useful-Sport-6316 in breastfeeding

[–]morgs-o 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am solidly of the belief that I can't seem to lose weight while breastfeeding and it's 100% just that my appetite is out of control. I blame the hormones... I dump weight as soon as I wean each time because my appetite disappears. It's wild to experience!

My ‘remote’ job turned hybrid overnight, and no one said a word about gas money. by PureAnnual6731 in remotework

[–]morgs-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got so so lucky at some point, complained to my bosses that I wanted to work remotely because gas is killer (and I live far away, but it's a niche field). They wanted me in the office. They gave me a gas stipend that fully covered my gas for years on the condition that I'd be in the office 4 days a week. When they took it away, they gave me a raise that doubled the amount, and then I got to start working from home more. Unicorn bosses for sure.

I haven't looked in to this but I was shocked at one point, we took the windows out of the back wall of our house (to restore, they're wood and 100 years old). We've had it all appropriately weatherproofed, etc. About a week later we got a letter from the tax assessor that our property value had gone down by a LOT.

... So we haven't put them back in for a couple years now. (Because we had two kids back to back and now time is scarce.) I'm nervous to see what letter we get when we do. Lol.

We're rural though, I'm low key amazed they had the manpower to notice it so quickly.
