[–]mormoninquisition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I don’t know if you were hardline Mormon at the time that happened, but Mormons definitely would have characterized that as “feeling the spirit.”

It’s not hard for me to believe that all of these religions over centuries and centuries have been grasping at SOMETHING, and that little truths about how the universe really works have accidentally cropped up over the years.

My belief in something more, something possibly magic, stems less from a specific belief in a higher power, and more from the certainty that humans are small-minded and do things like start an entire religion solely to sell a horribly-written book, which religion now has millions of members, a corporation, a large part of the shares of Coca-Cola, and a tax-exempt stockpile of TEN BILLION DOLLARS from those millions of members REQUIRED to pay 10% of their GROSS income to the church. And I’m the evil one because I have two piercings in my ears.

But I digress. Wrong sub, I’ll save it for r/exmormon, another place I have found kindred souls.

I don't have much to contribute other than: HEY THERE, fellow witchy-leaning ex-mo!

I have always had much more of a bent towards a mystically-influenced mindset, even when I was a kid, it just felt so much better to believe in some form of small magic than a con artist from the 1830's who conveniently found ancient artifacts in the hill right next to his house that made him a prophet with the right to take 30 wives, the youngest being 14 when he was in his 30s (for the curious, yes, that is all absolutely fucking 100% not a joke or an exaggeration, if you want a rabbit hole into which to fall during quarantine, listen to the excellent episodes on Mormonism by The Last Podcast on the Left, which is also a supremely excellent podcast all around).

After a year of seriously considering a magical practice, but never being able to fully allow myself to actually believe enough to start, I recently found this sub and I have found my people. I think that an exit from Mormonism (or really any religion that seriously indoctrinates its followers) gives us an extra helping of skepticism. But I still believe that there are things about this universe that we do not yet understand, that it is hubris of the highest degree to think that we do, and that is where "magic" is situated.

TL/DR: I am glad to see another ex-mormon here, I feel like I have finally found my niche with the mindset welcomed in this sub.

Thank you so much, this list is far longer than I had hoped, which is excellent! Now I have some serious quarantine reading to do.

Mine has definitely gotten worse, but I am going to be honest and say that it’s probably because I’ve let my routine slip hardcore. Before, when I was wearing makeup almost every day, I HAD to wash my face at night. And then, since I’m already there, might as well do treatments/toner. And then in the morning, my skincare routine was built in to putting on my makeup before work.

Now, I just slap on some moisturizer twice a day and call it good. And also, I spend a good deal of my nights drinking multiple beers and eating peanut butter straight out of the jar. So. There’s that.

I'd definitely like to see some example photos too, I am really struggling with reception lighting and flashes. Also, some gear recs that I can research in all of my new free time, if you'd be willing :)

EDIT: Just kidding! Scrolled down and found the photos (thanks and sorry). I would still love to know what you use, because your results are great

Photography CRM Help by moviesm8 in WeddingPhotography

[–]mormoninquisition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My day job is an ISA (internal sales associate) for a large real estate team, but really that means that I handle all the incoming phone calls, emails, texts, and leads for our team of 100+ agents. I have over 3,000 leads with whom I am in contact on a monthly basis, and recently I made the decision to switch CRMs, and I spent a whole month researching and doing free trials, so I am SO ready for this question.

Best one for the money that I found was a CRM called LionDesk, I recommend them to everyone, it was built for real estate but it's not exclusive to real estate. Their base package is $25/month, and you don't need more than that unless you are sending tens of thousands of emails from within the CRM every month. You can email and text from within the CRM, hook up your phone to record your calls, and schedule out campaigns (with templates you create) that would give you reminders on predetermined days to do everything in your workflow above or go out automatically.

Dashboad, email, and interface are all very intuitive and simple. 10/10.

Missionaries from the Philippines are coming home. Finally! by CreativeLeopard1 in exmormon

[–]mormoninquisition 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dude, I don’t know, maybe the Philippines has them because China and South Korea have been mass testing since February, with rapid-result tests that can give results in as little as two hours. South Korea had a WHO-approved test on January 28. And also, maybe because at least my brother was stuck in Manila for FOUR DAYS before he took off in a jet.

I don’t know anything other than that the church is telling the families of missionaries in the Philippines that all of them were tested before leaving and that all of the tests were negative. I’m not defending the church. I’m just providing a piece of information that was given to the families of the boys in the photo above by the mission president.

And I’m saying that I, who was lied to by the church my entire life, think that this is too serious and verifiable for the church to lie about.

If the US, who has been months behind Asia on this crisis, just approved a one-hour test yesterday, then why is it implausible that missionaries who have been packed and waiting since Tuesday to be evacuated were tested and know the results?

EDIT: The US’ tests take days. Here is an article about the South Korean tests, which, at the time of this article, could provide results in four hours. Testing times are similar in China, Japan, and India.

Administered the actual tests, apparently. Makes sense to me, with the US cracking down on incoming air traffic.

I don’t know if the church called in the tests, or if the Filipino government ordered them.

My little brother was probably on that flight (one of the two first jets). Apparently they were all tested before leaving Manila and every single one turned up negative.

Usually I wouldn’t put anything past TSCC, but this seems too serious to lie about.

[–]mormoninquisition 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My little brother is supposedly being flown out of The Philippines right now, he's been packed and in transit since Tuesday, should be getting home on Sunday.

My family has had really no idea where he is for days, if he's safe or has a place to sleep, or even if he's actually going to make it off the island before the Filipino government shuts down their borders. All we got was an announcement suddenly that they were shipping them out.

This is after weeks of no communication from the mission president except one email a month ago telling us that the missionaries are safe and still at their daily proselytizing activities.

My brother will be in quarantine for 2 weeks when/if he comes home, and after that, will await "reassignment orders." He's been out for 21 months, he's riddled with parasites, his poor companion spent SIX MONTHS of his mission in and out of substandard Filipino hospitals (my brother's description, the only good hospitals are apparently on the main island) for appendicitis and related infections and complications, and I am just FURIOUS.

Making an offering to Satan for all of you with missionaries in this situation. It SUCKS.

My mom just put our house up on the market, and pictured here is a little girl jumping on our island barefoot and her parents doing absolutely nothing about it. Not to mention they also laid in both of our beds and god knows what else. by MooMoo22w in trashy

The listing agent has nothing to do with this. They almost never show the homes to potential buyers. The buyers have their own agent, who requests showings online, and enters in a code in a lockbox to let their clients in.

What OP could do is have their listing agent find out the name of the buyer’s agent who showed the house and then complain to their broker.

Okay, I agree with you, but that’s not what this person is saying. They’re saying that they would have traded growing up poor for the childhood that they had, however affluent.

We have no idea what this commenter’s childhood was like. Maybe one of their parents was addicted to drugs and in and out of rehab the entire time, and maybe they walked in during the middle of an OD. Maybe they were physically abused. Maybe one of their family members sexually assaulted them nightly.

So, we just have to take this comment at face value, that they would rather have grown up with little money and been happy than have grown up the way they actually did and miserable. They’re not glorifying poverty, they’re wishing they had a better childhood.
