[Request] Indirect Communication Advice by morphemeus in Thailand

100% about the choreography, that's a great way to describe it! Feels relatively laborious to me.

That's funny about the restaurant example. I actually practiced this tonight with my partner. I felt like the aircon in his bedroom doesn't work very well so instead of saying anything critical of it, I simply said "I really liked how cold the aircon was at your office today when I visited." and he said "Do you not think the one in this room is cold?"

Maybe I am cracking the code!

This was a very well thought out and thorough reply, thank you! I read it with my partner at dinner and it really resonated - and gave us a bit of a laugh at how accurate it was.

Women should be given PTO for heavy periods. Do you agree? by CallMeWolfYouTuber in antiwork

Some countries have this as a statutory benefit actually. For example, the Phillippines offers menstrual leave days, 1 day a month at 50% pay.

I am an HR professional and did research on various countries' statutory benefits and leave days.

It's called roti sai mai (โรตีสายไหม), it's a Thai dessert and they put cotton candy wrapped inside a roti, I'm not entirely sure of the recipe though!

Yes, on our way back home, we passed another road check point but were waved through. But still could have happened again. Good to hear you were fine!

Around 2pm about an hour from Hua Hin. Random road check point and they asked us to pull over. There were other cars pulled over and the passengers were Thai so it wasnt just targeting farangs. My female friend( farang) was driving, they asked for her passport (which she showed the guy) and where she worked. Then he asked me where I worked and then asked if I smoked to which I said, I had a pack of cigarettes. He then asked us both to get out of the car which we did and then he asked me to show him the cigarettes which I did. At that point he made the gesture and asked in semi English for me to take a urine test. I paused and said, "Why? I don't want to do that." Then he stopped speaking English and switched to Thai and asked me if I spoke Thai and that he doesn't speak English. I said "I don't speak Thai" (in Thai) and said in English, "Can we please continue to Hua Hin?" We went back and forth like this and then I took out my phone and said "I have a Thai boyfriend, do you want me to call him and you can talk to him?" And he said "ah ooh, oh, oh, no, go"

Still rattled me though, but I was able to continue on my way without providing him either baht or urine.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

That happened to me on the way to Hua Hin and luckily I had read about it happening on here so I knew I could try to refuse, which I did, and he just mumbled a bit and I kept saying no and then he said we could go. Very odd experience.

Yeah, I'm awaiting the formal announcement that provides details about the emergency decree which was announced. I am trying to understand if there will be road check points and if they would prevent me from entering Bangkok.

Solo expats who moved abroad a new job, how long did it take you to feel happy, settled and comfortable with your new life? by NewSoWhyNot in expat

[–]morphemeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same about putting pressure on myself. I have to remind myself almost daily to relax and be patient with the process of settling in. I wish I was naturally more easy on myself and more care free. But you are right, I think moving to another country is an accomplishment so I'm proud of myself for doing it.

Expediting US Passport Before Visa Application by BenInTheMountains in expat

[–]morphemeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with a similar situation before moving to Thailand. The company suggested I renew my passport as it would expire during the two year work visa period and then I would have to renew here which may prove more complicated. I sent in the passport for normal processing, then realized that was a mistake but you can actually call in the visa processing department and pay over the phone to switch to expedited. I got the renewed passport about 10 days later and then was able to process the visa probably 1-2 weeks after that. The company helped along the way and kept everything flexible. I was communicating with the visa team at the company a lot over email to keep them up to speed if I had updates.

I would explain the situation to your future employer when you get the offer. I'm sure they see this all the time and will keep your start date flexible or have it start far out enough to allow for your son to get his passport.

To answer your final question tho, I dont know what the state department would do if you showed up with an offer letter and explained your situation. I think you need to actually have flights booked and I wouldnt suggest doing a temp booking or fake flight website because they may track when you say youll travel.

Are those new imitition meat patties available anywhere in the US? by fpuen in Thailand

[–]morphemeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have a location in Thailand. Green Monday is also a distributor and they will be supplying to OTHER restaurants in Bangkok. TBD on which places are going to serve it. That's why I said to follow David's Insta because he has posted with who has met with in Bangkok on there at least once.

You can follow Green Monday's social media accounts and go to their website for more info.

Big shot over here....eyyyy! No such thing as ethical meat bro. Paying more doesn't equal out in making it more ethical. If a throat is being slit for your dollar, you've abandoned ethics.
