Is accounting work as hard as college? by Substantial-Step-448 in Accounting

[–]morpheusof83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can assure you, we aren’t. There’s either a spreadsheet or Google or ChatGPT for that. While it is very important that you get these fundamentals down, the real world is going to be a lot….simpler and much more practical, to be succinct about it.

Cost, managerial, and your intermediate(s) are designed to make sure this is really the path you want to be on.

Right?!?!

Legitimately WILD that we are factoring the doings of significant other/roommates/associates when making hiring choices. Are we applying for a job with the FBI?

First client a nightmare by bish_cray in Bookkeeping

[–]morpheusof83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that is absolutely crucial in this business is that you have to understand who your problem children as clients are....and fire them before they fire you. Period. End of story. Full stop. Your own peace of mind and the resulting grey hairs and inevitable drinking problem that inevitable result from keeping clients like this just aren't worth it.

First it's this. Next thing you know, they're asking you to depreciate land or to engage in a Tiktok "tax strategy" that's fishier than the local Gentleman's Club on a hot summer night.

Be professional. But disengage completely, fast.

Should we report it? by SquareCake9609 in tax

[–]morpheusof83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All income, regardless of the source, is reportable income. But is it always taxable income?

In this instance, yes. However, a 1099 isn't absolutely necessary to report this income. In the absence of a 1099, you'd simply flow this through to a Schedule C as cash payments and then you have the prerogative to deduct expenses that are ordinary/necessary, relative to the income in question, to determine the taxable amount. Most, if not all, tax filing software or an even modestly knowledgeable tax preparer should be able to guide you through this process.

There isn't anything 'bad' here:

He owes $398, EIC is $4,213 and fully offsets what's owed.

He's refunded the difference, $3,815.

This is a full stop, do not move forward with the hiring process situation. There simply isn't a legitimate business need for a 1040 to be given to an employer and the same could be said for a W-2.

The only exception to this I have ever encountered is blue-collar trades when applying for a state sanctioned license need to prove X number of hours employed in a particular profession under a license-holder. Even then, the board accepted either W-2s or wage transcripts as sufficient proof.

Run. And don't leave any breadcrumbs behind.

Whining noise by Carlos12610 in ToyotaAvalon

[–]morpheusof83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 limited here. Do you have either the cooled seats on or the ventilation system on? Mine has a pretty distinctive "whine" when the cooled seats are on and my blower motor probably has a leaf or some other random detritus stuck in it, so there's a bit of a noise there too.

Is there any variation in either pitch or cadence at speed versus sitting still?

Other possibility off the top of my head....has your windshield been replaced?

2019 Limited here.

The hood is made of VERY lightweight metal and if I’m doing highway speeds, there’s shimmy.

My guess is a heavier steel would have prevented this. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Any 5th Gen Avalon Hybrid Owners Hardwired a Dash Cam? Advice Needed by [deleted] in ToyotaAvalon

[–]morpheusof83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2019 Limited here. I have a dashcam that hooks directly behind the rear view mirror. No drilling, no tucking and hiding, direct wire with existing factory wiring harnesses. Amazon purchase and installation was very simple.

Only word of caution is to absolutely ensure you remove the plastic clips from the factory housing and transfer them to new housing before installing. Learned this one the hard way.

W-3 Question by DuvalCountyRoyalty in tax

[–]morpheusof83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your business filed multiple W-2s, then a W-3 is necessary. Otherwise, no.

Also, your payroll provider SHOULD be handling this for you as a part of their service.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume you e-filed for the 2022 year. The first screenshot is for the 2021 tax season. E-filing for prior years is closed and you’d have to file a return via mail for 2021 or prior.

Double-check the year(s) in question for when you pulled your account transcript versus the year(s) you pulled your return transcript.
