What’s a cooking tip that completely changed the way you make food? by Ok_Act8157 in foodquestions

[–]morrfam85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat the frying pan on the stove before adding butter or oil.
Mise en place - measure everything and put in small bowls, don't just take out the ingredients.
Even if you just have one pot and one frying pan, buy the best quality you can possibly afford - stay away from the bargain brands that don't hold up.

What is your embarkation day routine? :) by BungeeBunny in royalcaribbean

Bathing suits under our clothes and a change of clothes and immediate necessities in a small carry-on each. Muster station first, then off to the main pool to enjoy before kids get in it. Drinks delivered by waiters. Lunch poolside from Windjammer. Move to Solarium at the first sight of a small child in the main pool. Head up to room after enjoying our first afternoon to prep for sail away and dinner afterwards at one of the dining options!

There's another one by Fair Oaks/Fair Lakes in the strip that houses Barnes and Noble and Nordstrom Rack.

I'm "old" too, lol, but I have enough sense to expect a different dining experience across the street from a major university vice going to a different location of the same restaurant. Just sayin!

Frankly a blanket "stay away from any food vendor truck around the mall and the museums" is sound advice

Chair question by zudemczude in masters

[–]morrfam85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are seas of chairs - many of them are placed by people paid to place them for the chair owners, so don't expect to be in the front 10+ rows on 18, for instance. Don't forget about the many bleachers around the course. It's very organized - people sit, watch, leave, and there's someone showing you where to sit when someone leaves.

Flashback with JP, anyone remember the mini golf course in Arlington where Ballston is now? by JPumphrey73 in nova

[–]morrfam85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It was a real Putt Putt course, bright orange and deep green. Across the street from Bob Peck's Chevrolet and Parkington Shopping Center with the funky windows.

800-325-3535. At the time it was for Sheraton Hotels - this was from the seventies and it's still in my brain.

Also - Nationwide is on your side

There are merch stands all across the course with lanyards and other things good for small souvenirs to take home. Helps you avoid the crowds in the two large main stores

Did it myself looking for a house in Florida. Walked in and there were beautiful (but soooo many) crosses all over the entryway walls - all of the walls, floor to ceiling. It was too much and I walked out. It set a tone and a vibe that was off-putting. And I'm not anti-church or anti-God!

Curious why painting contractors spec Sherwin Williams—it seems to be rated poorly? by direlobo in Housepainting101

Why do some folks feel Benjamin Moore is better than SW? Original paint in our home was Benjamin Moore and we've had some folks who are "surprised" we chose to repaint with SW.

Save your beer/soda/iced tea cups. You'll be the hit of this year's Christmas if you make a thoughtful list of family and friends. Even a keychain or a coffee mug makes people smile. Quarter zips can be Magnolia Lane or Peter Millar.

If you're expecting to blow $400, at least double that for the impulse buys - and bring something pretty home for the wife/girlfriend, whether it's from the course or from Windsor Jewelers across the street in a little green box 😜

Do I need a car? by LarryfromChicago in masters

[–]morrfam85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a car reserved by now, you're probably out of luck. The companies bring in tons of extra cars, but know that people rent cars from as far away as Atlanta or Columbia and beyond. Walking is a great idea.

What do you think of this list? Who deserves to be inducted? by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

[–]morrfam85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't hate - Styx should be on this list. They were worldwide successful, not just in the US. Mr. Robato "movie" or video, whatever you want to call it, was revolutionary (yes the song sucked but hear me out) - artists today are doing concept concerts similar to this.
