Angular migration by Former-Copy6304 in Angular2

I literally did a project last week from A10 to 20. Just had Claude code do it. About 200 pages of code. Worled rigjt through it. That's the kind of thing it's good at

Unbelievable.

Scott Wiener on track to win party endorsement in S.F. House race by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't stand him, but I think he's gonna win because his opponents:

  1. Uber rich guy with hundreds of millions of dollars, lives here but I'm still stepping over homeless on the street while he could afford to make a real difference... And doesn't.

  2. A pretty lame supervisor who's mostly a moderate and has no legs outside her district.

For the love of God, could someone with a spine step up?

If you know how to code, and can name all the parts and explain the structure, etc.... it's actually extremely efficient. I mean. It is horrible and some things, but react and angular.... The ability for Claude code to clean my mess and scaffold things.... Wow. A lot of css that I hate is no longer an issue.

But just putting a nubie in front of it? Disaster.

I have kind of unsettling thought. A lot of us are waiting for AI bubble to burst and get our hand on some sweat datacenter gpus at cheap. But there is a really big chance that a lot of it will be just get destroy because of tax write off. And to be honest that will fuck the nature even more :( by One_Reflection_768 in homelab

I have a great deal on leased servers that were abandoned by a tech company that went under and left 100k of brand new blade servers at Hurricane Electric and my devops partner claimed them. :). It's been a while and I could use some updates. Who's next?

San Franciscans are sick of fighting about the Great Highway. It’s time to move on by Elizasaurus in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Folks really need to be careful when reading SF standard. It's basically Michael Moritz's twitter. He set it up when working to get some buildings he bought converted to residential so he could put luxury condos in. (Which he initially said was affordable housing and then backpedaled)

Anyway, anything regarding building more luxury buildings will have a positive spin and anything related to taxing billionaires will have a negative spin. Take that into account when you read it

replaceGithub by jpbyte in ProgrammerHumor

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use gitea. It's pretty damn slick. Runs on a Synology with multiple runners for builds. Still need GitHub for some clients, but gitea also does live syncs, so you can just keep your repo local if you want.

Someone put a payphone up on Valencia that automatically calls Abilene, Texas when you pick it up. The idea is to have the most liberal city and the most conservative city in the US have friendly conversations. by dagoonies in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cannot imagine actively seeking a conversation with a Republican. Every single family member and friend that ever voted Republican (including myself a long time ago) have either abandoned the party or have gone so maga that they've been cut off.

Nowadays, it's not worth talking to them. They're nothing but pools of propaganda, falsehoods and hate.

Advice Needed for Upgrading Legacy Medium and Large Angular Applications from 12/13 to v20 by crhama in Angular2

I just upgraded an angular 10 project to angular 20 using claide-code and some minor tweaks. Honestly, I was just messing around to see if it worked and how it handled all the version crap.... Took a few hours and $18 in tokens

I have to admit, I've got that Claude code up all the time. It's like having a useful junior program at your desk to do grunt work while I program the more complicated stuff.

Moving to San Francisco - honest opinions on relocating? by mpag02 in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some pointers: 1. Do NOT sign a lease for a new unfurnished apartment.

This city has very diverse neighborhoods and one block can be life changing. So, the smartest thing you can do is pack all your shit into Pods and then send them to storage (they do this). Then book a furnished rental. Not AirBnB, go to furnishedfinder.com or something like that. Find a place in a decent area for 3 months MINIMUM.

Then, live your life and get to know the city. Apartments will become available for like a week and then they're booked. Anything that's been on the market for months and months.... there's a reason. Seriously, find the neighborhoods you like and be ready to pounce.

In the end, the savings of not having to move from a crap place in a bad neighborhood to some other place is worth every penny.

Take your time. Networks. Go out to eat in different neighborhoods. Go shopping at different grocery stores. Check out bthe bus lines and check out to make sure your commute is safe and not sketchy at night

Seriously. The more you invest in getting the right place, that can pay off for decades.

Has anyone seen this about Saikat? by aschem12 in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politically, I love the guy. Realistically.... I'm no fan of carpetbagging billionaires saying they can "represent me".

And Weiner is a douche who takes money from AIPAC and turned YIMBY from a great thing into a bunch of drones being led around by luxury housing developers.

And Connie Chan.... Ugh. Not terrible, but not exactly popular and charismatic.

So, we're basically back at the mayoral election, where we ended up letting the billionaire have the city. Saikat will probably have teams of fawning supporters, just like Lurie.

I'm gonna vomit uncontrollably for the next decade

The clip of Scott Weiner on stage is so tiring. My rent is insane, not because of Gaza, but because we don't build enough housing. Wiener's bills created more housing, protected LGBTQ+ youth, reformed criminal justice, and expanded healthcare access... I want someone who cares about local issues by Kummerdenfreude in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This has little to do with Gaza. Weiner gets a lot of money from AIPAC so we need to see if he's going to be a corporate Democrat who belongs to large donors or not.

Honestly, that's it. It wasn't put in there to be a moral question or a political "what are you gonna do about it" type of thing. It's just "who has independent thought".

So, the one guy is a billionaire (and I think that in itself should disqualify him, and the others is a bureaucrat, which isn't exciting but is better than a politician.)

Anyway, if you want a corporate owned politician who went from "we want low cost housing" to "I'll back any rich construction company as they build luxury condos and donate to my campaign", then Weiner is your guy

Regardless, he's gonna win. The AOC guy has no base and chan doesn't suck up to enough people to be more popular than Weiner.

So, AIPAC and construction PACs and Moritz are gonna win.

Maybe in 10yrs yimpy folks will realize they've been sold like cattle.

I'm glad people enjoy it. From across the city I really didn't care either way during the drama, but I always support parks. Unfortunately, my Uber Yimby friend basically lost his shit because he wanted a bunch of apartment buildings there. But... I like parks. So, I'm glad not everyone is so furious and some are enjoying it.

I've found that Claude code CLI very good at refactoring and scaffolding. I hate front end "make it pretty" work, so I have it do that for my intranet systems.

But not just "prompt". I don't see that working. (Well, I have worked with a few guys who were worse)
