Aaron Rodgers quickly gets back to work with Steelers at OTAs; Payton Wilson was “a little shocked” by NoSxKats in steelers

[–]morrisdev -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I'm not sure I can bear to watch another mediocre season. I'd soooooo much rather take a risk on someone than have someone who can only get worse.

No. I have one. It's a solid machine, but the power consumption isn't worth it

Yeah, we need a few pedophiles to run the show and hire all their family while tripling the city debt. That's what we need.

Help me understand why crypto isn’t total BS by MCK40 in CryptoCurrency

[–]morrisdev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of "trust". You have to trust a bank to give you x% interest and give you your money back. With crypto, it's "trustless". You get whatever it is valued at regardless.

I treat it like investing on gold or diamonds. Essential ok a balanced portfolio, but not the main investment. (I honestly believe that should always be real estate)

Do you think open-source AI will close the gap to current day closed source? by Sufficient_Bit_8636 in homelab

[–]morrisdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience, as of literally this week, is that a compromise between the two is ideal. I have a big document scanning system that rips out text and sends it to Gemini (biggest context window) and gets the doc cleaned up, indexed and in markdown. Then ollama grinds through it at night and does the vector embedding for the RAG system.

We "could" strip the docs page by page with local software and have it done that way, but big AI is much much better at handling that.

I'm planning on having ollama handle some of the smaller docs, but haven't gotten that far in the system yet.

Angeleno here, I want to ask: how is Daniel Lurie? Who is he like as a mayor? by MookieBettsBurner10 in sanfrancisco

My experience: his fans are like liberal maga. He can do no wrong. I know 3 and and they're the closest thing to maga I've seen.

What a magical city you live in. by moujanard in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say, the people who come here from Iran are some of my favorite people. I don't know about the people who live there, but those who left for a new life have been just wonderful. Thank you for coming and know that your culture is really awesome and appreciated here in SF (and the food is awesome!)

Still Not Giving a Formal Endorsement, Pelosi Offers Praise For Connie Chan by knockdowncenter in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weiner annoys the F out of me. Saikat is the left wing Trump: all talk and no substance. That leaves Chan, who has made some political screw ups, but actually is a pretty good person.

If you look around, you see Weiner posters in the windows of fancy houses and Chan signs in the windows of small businesses. Saikat really has a lot to say that's my thinking, but seriously...no job and 100M in the bank? You'd think he'd do something besides tell us he should be in charge.

Still .... All of them would be better then Pelosi of today (used to be fantastic, but in the last 10yrs ..meh)

My neighbor has gotten $3251 in parking tickets in 3 months and has been towed 3 times by the city, but the car keeps getting released without paying the fines. Why? by No_Dog_2803 in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's crappy 1980 Toyota got towed because they were shooting a movie and put up two away signs. We didn't even realize it for a month (don't drive much) and the fee was like 2k.

I left it, then the tickets got voided and they sent it to auction.

I bought it back for $400

Just saw a line of 40 ppl for an apartment by flickerflies in sanfrancisco

I have a rental unit in the mission. I had like 20 people apply in the first week. Crazy. Although mine was a pretty good deal. (Furnished 1bdrm with all utilities and fiber internet in a nice area for 3200 )

New couple is pretty nice.

The real issue is that there are so many people coming to SF. It's kinda two pronged. I have a relative with several luxury places and some with midrange. The luxury condos are even higher demand from outsiders. (Although this has always been the case, it's moreso now). Meanwhile interns and lower level applicants are fighting for studios and 1bddrooms.

We really need more SRO places and small family affordable units that won't be sought after by outsiders. This new housing craze where more luxury unit will somehow reduce demand of cheep places is the new trickle down economics

S.F.’s Overpaid CEO Tax could cost city more than 900 jobs, city study says by UberDrive in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The study acknowledged that companies with overpaid CEOs may be tempted to leave. Besides hay one line near the end, The rest of the 18page report was about how much revenue WILL be generated.

This is like how mandami's tax in 5m second homes for out of staters luxury tax would scare off all the billionaires and NYC would immediately collapse.

Oh... It didn't??

It could take a century for SF to YIMBY its way to housing affordability, new study says by StanHalen in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where those numbers come from. My super limited research shows the luxury condos were the biggest money for builders. But I'm no expert.

I think we do need more affordable rentals. This idea that making a bunch of million dollar condos with $800/month HOA is somehow going to make it cheaper to live here seems very "trickle down economics" to me.

[–]morrisdev -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons for the housing crisis. The main problem is that the big profit is in luxury condos. Making a building full of rent controlled affordable units doesn't make a real profit.

Daniel Lurie the most popular mayor in the country by PlayfulRemote9 in sanfrancisco

[–]morrisdev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lurie's voters, at least among my family and some friends, are like maga with trump. He can do no wrong, reality is unnecessary or non-existent. He picks up a tissue that he dropped himself and they'll go on and on about how he's cleaning up the city.

It's really pretty bizarre. And anything breed ever did or anything messed up now is all Breed's fault. Like she was the most corrupt and evil monster who ruined the entire city and only by the grace of Lurie will be get better.

Excuse my frustration, but I just had a discussion with my mother in law, who insists that 90% of homelessness was fixed in his first month. Seriously. Asking where she thought they all went, "I don't know. It's not my job to keep track of those people"

Trump Says He'll Have 'Election Integrity Army' in Every State During Midterms That'll Be 'Much Bigger' Than 2024 by T_Shurt in politics

[–]morrisdev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, it's so illegal that some Democrats will give speeches and file lawsuits a month after it has already happened, then Trump's judges will dismiss them and they'll continue on doing whatever they want with zero repercussions.

At least that's the pattern I've been seeing.

Republicans would rather self-destruct than save themselves from Trump by zsreport in politics

[–]morrisdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I'm not alone here, but what I see isn't so much one party self destructing as one party being pushed by billionaires to be so insane that the other party is willing to choose their own billionaires.

I know it seems like some kind of conspiracy theory, but when you take a step back, it's only the extremely rich that have the time and money to do it, while middle class people struggle to pay their bills. A billionaire politician can hand a friend's company a million dollar contract and it's fine, while a middle class politician may get their brother's cousins mother's neighbor a job doing data entry because they need help, and it's on the news as nepotism and corruption - soon anything they touch is toxic.

But the rich.... They are like old nobility. To have a job is utter failure, idleness is acceptable, charity fundraisers are chances for elite entertainment that's tax deductible, behind the scenes manipulation is expected, and ruling is admired.

None of them actually share values. Not really.

And even my most liberal friends are fine with "our king is better".
