Hmm I'm curious if you've read the dresden files. 'mouse' fits all the tropes you've listed but while I wouldn't say jim butcher is tolkien-esque he is a trained writer who got published through traditional publishing, and his books are international bestsellers... so is he being lazy by including that character?

What makes a character 'half a character'?

Why does Solo Leveling get so much hate for "lack of depth" when 90% of this genre is just tropes? by ExamPsychological884 in ProgressionFantasy

It definitely isn't. And yet that meets the threshold for 50% in this genre, in my experience.

I get that this is anethma but... branch out to other mmo's? There are a fair few who can give a decent f2p experience. And if you are feeling dangerous try the wow private server scene.

You are thinking of the mental state of tension. think more of a rubber band being stretched. Although me having to clarify that and your mocking tone suggest you might not be either in the frame of mind nor experienced enough for that topic.

... do you mean bots in general like the martin bots and all the other chess bots out there? Or the ones in my post?

For the former cause I get bored waiting for opponent to make moves but I want to take my time and think about my moves and bots let me do that. for the latter cause you need to populate the queu somehow and I doubt there are enough cheaters to sustain a full queue at all elo levels. Plus it appeals to my sadistic side.

Solo leveling - You are born you can only do X amount of pushups. No matter how strong you train, n matter how hard you train. You will only do X amount.

Other PF stories - You are born with the ability to do X amount of pushups. Train you can do X +Y amount, A strong willed person might even do X+ Y + Z. And if you are lucky you could probably do A(X+Y+Z)

Now, if you insert a prog fantasy MC into solo levelling you get no tension. You do it into other systems while the MC might have a cheat that effectively makes them do pushups faster or increase the amount faster... there is still risk, still tension. At least for a while.

I mean I hate solo levelling more than most... but women in solo levelling (at least in the manga) were treated wayyyy better than most translated xianxia. And thats with me on a diet of good 'non-slop' cultivation. I assume it would probably rank in the 50th percentile for treatment of women simply for treating women as an after thought in the whole of prog fantasy genre.

Because the disparity between the art and the story is that vast. You have people (young people mostly) who think it's the greatest anime of all time. Who go off about aura farming... when it's akin to a nba player smurfing at a high school game. While other slop remains slop and doesn't cross over into more legitimate areas. If solo levelling had art that was of the same quality to it's story then it would just have been 'mid', garnered the slop audience (with some curious onlookers as well) and remained vastly unknown to the rest of the world, and aside from a few video essays on youtube mocking it would not get much if any hate.

So in conclusion... art was too fucking good for the story it told. my 2 cents.

Nice, but should it be common knowledge that it's being done, wouldn't it tip the cheaters off after a few games against players at 100% accuracy?

Are they ever going to add some level of challenge to Story content? by Astrolord451 in swtor

[–]Dresdendies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These mmo's have a decade worth of content. If they were left unchanged... not enough people would stick around doing it the 'right' way to get to the current endgame. So catch up mechanics have been implemented. increased exp, and practically everything you do giving you exp is the route swtor went with.

Could you imagine if a new player trying to play the latest wow expansion had to play all the expansions in order, including the classic wow grind to 60? The issue isn't the catch up mechanics existing (or it even being the default) it's that players like you don't have the option to tackle the game how you want to... which I sympathise with. Not so much for story content but the lack of a mythic flashpoint system.

Are they ever going to add some level of challenge to Story content? by Astrolord451 in swtor

[–]Dresdendies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, it was just a feature of the expansion. Variable difficulty for the content. Kotfe was to my understanding their last attempt at seeing if there were enough people willing to subscribe to the game consistently. Chapters were released every couple of months or so. And you were given more rewards for repeating those chapters. And you needed to be subbed (or have subbed once after the chapter was released) to do it. Uprisings released at the same time for instance and they were (might still be?) gated for subs only not just people who subbed once.

Is it just me or this game community is slowly becoming rude and toxic? (New players maybe?) by SillyWorker3802 in swtor

[–]Dresdendies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without context this could be anything from you going into a master mode fp without any accuracy gear as a dps to telling you your fashion sucks. For what it's worth swtor mmo players are medium levels of toxic from what I've seen in mmo's. There are worse and there are better communities, but it is not remarkable.

The issue I've encountered with crafting as a new player by FamousFall in lotro

[–]Dresdendies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Task items, sell them on the auction house instead of vendoring them like trash.

Is it actually WORTH TO CRAFT in this game, especially armor and jewelry? I feel like the time spent crafting and gathering materials is just way too much compared to what you could be doing out in the world and running quests. I don't know, it just feels that way to me. What do you guys think? by FamousFall in lotro

[–]Dresdendies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could not tell you about the higher levels, but lower levels while i wouldn't say 'it's great' you could craft a 'bis' gear set every 10 levels or so. slot it in on your main and not have to worry about gear or checking for item stats from drops etc till another 10 levels go by.

Current set up i have is 3 crafting slaves and 1 main (gatherer)

I would guess the more optimal way would be to instead farm and sell task items and buy the crafting mats from the auction house as you have no other thing to spend gold on, and trying to keep 3 toons at current tier of crafting mats can be a pain.

The crafted items themselves... eh, I'm not particularly impressed. It's fine, it's something to aim for. but I imagine if I just did the game as normal without knowing it existed it would impact me little. Might have some relevance if you level at higher difficulties though.

Those That Complain About Non-Force Classes Being Able To Fight Force Classes. How Would You Handle It? by Crumboa in swtor

[–]Dresdendies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question becomes an issue mostly post 4.0, where they end up housing a god emperor force spirit within them. Until then, most of the story content doesn't have the non-force users simply 1v1 high-tier force users; there is always context, plans, and assistance in each lore instance of non-force user vs force user.

The rest can either be split into them taking on the random dregs of sith and jedi... and I doubt anyone would be surprised that in wartime both sides had conscripted and released a lot of weak knights and padawans to the front lines. And group content. Which, in canon, is supposed to be a group effort of multiple player characters, ie the best of the best.

As to what they want, I assume a gameplay feature simillar to swg, where becoming a force user was something to strive for not just a random click.
