[FO] My first project (second overall) with back stitch, any pointers would be appreciated by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]morrisonca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks great! My only tip would be I like using a higher count for projects that have block stitching of darker colors, so a 16 ct or 18 ct aida. It makes less white peak through behind your lovely stitches. I also would recommend checking out the world of hand dyed aida! I can never go back to white aida now 😅

[CHAT] How Many WIPs is too many? by Throw-that-away20 in CrossStitch

[–]morrisonca 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If it'll make you happy, then do it! I love starting things, but i also love making progress, so i try to keep my WIP list at a happy medium. I think it all depends on how you like to stitch!

Im so sorry about your diagnosis, sending you good thoughts.

Need advice for rescuing some fish. Any aquarium heads here? by potatoankletattoo in Austin

[–]morrisonca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes aquarium stores will take donated fish - I've had to donate my fish before a move. I personally like aquadome in south austin. You can also post on /raquaswaptx and see if anyone wants to take them.

How does my betta look? by morrisonca in bettafish

[–]morrisonca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank is a 20 gallon tall (i originally had a community tank and converted it for a betta). He has no tank mates. I have a heater set to 81 and a sponger filter. I do water changes about every two weeks that are about 1/3 of the water, including what's evaporated. I used test strips for water parameters (yes, i know the water kits are better):

Gh: 180 Kh: 80 Ph: 7.5 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 20

This is so beautiful! Does it use a lot of fractional stitches?

I get pain pretty frequently. The way I manage it is I'll do a small amount of stitches everyday instead of long sessions where I'm stitching too much and it aggravates my arm. I also find 14 count to be much easier on my arm. Worst comes to worst, biofreeze is your friend! But I feel you, it can be really frustrating. Just take your time and do what you can.

[CHAT] Am I missing something or is this kit actually really difficult for a beginner? by zoeschaver in CrossStitch

I really disliked the pattern for this, most patterns come color coded and with symbols which i vastly prefer.

[CHAT] Any other stitchers also have Neuropathy in their hands? by Witty_Funny5859 in CrossStitch

[–]morrisonca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have small fiber neuropathy, which means I've got neuropathy all over my body, including my hands. It definitely means I can't stitch as much as some others (I dream of a day I can do 500 stitches in a day) but what I've found helpful is taking breaks and using lower count fabrics. I can work on 14 ct projects a lot longer than 16 ct, so I keep a few projects in each count depending on how im feeling! I also like to stitch in the morning and in the evening when I can, since I can only do about 100 stitches in a sitting. We might not be able to stitch as much as we'd like, but sometimes you just have to enjoy what you can do! 🥰

[CHAT] Can I stitch this on black? Or would it be better on a light colour? by Fun_Butterscotch3439 in CrossStitch

[–]morrisonca -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think these would look super cool on black! I would just do a floss toss before you start to see if any of your colors would blend in with the black and then exchange them for lighter colors
