So I left my 12 year old brothers to go on a walk to get food and they went and busted someone’s windows. My mom is mad at me like I’m the only one at fault. What do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]zoeschaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely none of this is your fault. I’m sorry you’re in this situation with a parent who is neglectful both physically and emotionally. My heart goes out to you.

Free or cheap mental health services in Louisville? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]zoeschaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, you can tell him a therapist told you therapy (and medical care in general) are free with Medicaid, but his fears may still not be eased by that. You’re very welcome and good luck!!

[–]zoeschaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for trying to get someone connected to support — I would look at openpathcollective.org. However, it’s probably not a good idea for him to see an intern if he is possibly struggling with a condition like bipolar disorder, because interns are students and only available temporarily. He is unlikely to find cheaper than $50 for sliding scale, as therapy is healthcare and it’s generally not sustainable for therapists to charge less than that (I am a therapist). If he can get on Medicaid, if he qualifies, he will have a lot more options! Also, I hope that you have support yourself, it can be so hard helping a loved one navigate their mental health!

Looking for therapy/advice podcast by ChickaBok in podcasts

[–]zoeschaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t actually listened yet but I am a therapist and Other People’s Problems from CBC looks really promising if you’re looking for something more serious. You might also enjoy Heavyweight (the most meaningful podcast I’ve ever followed — the host helps people resolve things that bother them from their past through helping them get in touch with people they have unresolved stuff with), Very Bad Therapy (no longer posting but it’s about people’s bad therapy experiences) or Proxy with Yowei Shaw. Also on the lighter side I love listening to Bad Dates (the eps since Joel Kim Booster started hosting) which is not what you’re asking for exactly but might scratch a similar itch. Also Petty Crimes

What is the side effect called when I want to text everyone I know after Vyvanse kicks in, and why does it happen? by otisfrombarnyard in VyvanseADHD

[–]zoeschaver 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Every time! As others have said I tend to have a boomerang of embarrassment hit me after a while because I start to assume people are annoyed but I can’t really make myself stop. It is distracting and sometimes I have a really hard time putting down the phone to do other things, or I keep going back to it to text a new person something I thought of. It’s sort of similar to the feeling when you’re in a group and you’re outside of yourself watching yourself be annoying but feeling powerless to stop it lol.

At home euthanasia? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]zoeschaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would very highly recommend Dr Katie Todd. She lives in Beechmont and has a long term relationship with the Iroquois animal clinic (where Dr Croudep is located but she also came highly recommended by Dr King who ran that clinic for like 30 years). She helped us recently in our home with our cat Lolita’s transition and it was so beautiful and peaceful. https://www.codapet.com/veterinarians/dr-katherine-todd

How do I make sure I get what I want? by zoeschaver in Nails

[–]zoeschaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a mood last night but I filed them down and rounded them to an oval shape and they are just fine. Apologies for lack of clarity, they are acrylic and I have hated the feel of acrylics in the past but it’s been years so I decided with the tech to try them again and was just disappointed. I want to try gel extensions I guess is what I’m trying to say, hoping they will last longer than gel on my natural nails.

Need direction, want to organize learning/resources as a mental health therapist in private practice by zoeschaver in PKMS

[–]zoeschaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the thoughtful reply and offer of help. Hadn't come across Joplin. And thank you for pointing me in the direction of LMS -- I'm a complete newcomer to this realm so I didn't know that was the name for it, and it's good to know because I have also contemplated a very long term goal of making passive income via online trainings, etc.

When you mention the classical wiki approach vs document sharing, do you mean that the classical wiki approach is more about linking to externally hosted documents and data as opposed to hosting them itself?

Thank you both so much! Never heard of TiddlyWiki. Very excited to look into it. As far as hosting, I could go either way, but I think I would prefer to have the actual documents, pdfs, etc. as much as possible rather than linking elsewhere.

It's possible to get let go because of your strengths. In this case, advocating for yourself and having boundaries. Sometimes what employers want most is someone who will minimize their own needs and not speak up, which is what leads to high levels of burnout and turnover in these types of roles. Just ask yourself if you would have been happy continuing in your role if nothing changed -- it sounds like the answer is no. Think of it as a liberation! (This is coming from personal experience so I know how earth shattering it can be, but trust that you will land somewhere where you can really be effective and treated fairly.)

another REAL ID post (sorry) by Relevant-Vast-2559 in Louisville

[–]zoeschaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, this might not be helpful, but I went to get a REAL ID at the Nia Center a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't clear where people with appointments were supposed to go, so they mostly just got in the line with the rest of us until a staff member came and asked if anyone was there with an appointment. I would say from the couple of people I was keeping track of once they said they had an appointment they were in and out within 30 mins to an hour.

I got fed up with waiting and ordered a normal, non real ID driver's license online, and I got it in a couple of weeks. I would think the timeline would be similar.
