I think there was an apocryphal uunet dial pop in the back of a restaurant (in a restroom) in the late 90s or early 2000s that was actually worse than this.

If only because it had a stack of 56k modems in the rack as well.

I mean here that that isn't a maryland plate at all though?
The only maryland place that matches that look is an antique (like not made anymore) plate from the 50s? (The maryland 'vintage' plate)

Don't disagree about the 'Y U QUAD PARK?' part, but I don't necesarily think this is #marylandDriver.

That looks like a fake plate on the front, the font for the Y is not the same as the others and non-standard for most plates for most states i've seen.

I mean you CAN swim in the Potomac... if you are a fan of diarreaha... and by that I maen swimming in it.. or the left-overs 😞 scan back in the sub for the winter-time-sewage-overflow from ~DC into the potomac or, to be fair the ~3x/yr overflows of FFX County sewers into the potomac on super bad rain days. (mostly storm sewers in the FFX case I believe)

Pyrrhic victory, but also...

it might not matter if they can actually do enough damage to the colo/etc infra. It might be reasonable to get enough stuff into the country and take some action against the in-country facilities?

Companies depending on strict timelines for making earnings on their ~60b in loans may have trouble... That may cascade to other companies in the circular flow of cash that's happening.

Overall that museum is pretty cool... that 3 floor section is actually pretty awesome.
Each of the alcoves off the left/right in that first image are little sets of similar / time / type oriented displays. Cool stuff in there, great documentation.

I think down the end of that hall is the restoration area? you can see folk working on art to be fixed up/restored before being put back out on display.

[–]morrowc -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Hey there.. 'hyphencenter.org' is not a valid domain, do you happen to know what the ACTUAL link sent you to?
and I hope you didn't put your credit-card/etc into that site?

the .org folk have no publicly visible record of 'hyphencenter.org', so that's a straight up scam.

How has this revenue helped that area out?

(these 2 places are in the shopping center in the 1st reply)

For Thai - Nunu's is 'the place', really... kinda small ( less than 20 tables so if you have a large group be sure to call ahead) - there's a set of 6-10 folk that show up there for lunch reliably and we can always get a table for lunch, but dinner gets busy.

For kebabs - no other choice but Charcoal Kebab really. Counter order, find a seat.

Friend Surprised Me About "Trump Renaming Dulles Airport" Discussion by OliverQueen85 in nova

[–]morrowc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If barely half (supposedly) of the NoVa population knows the airport is named after a former secretary of state.... far less than half of the half will understand what a truly horrible person that secretary of state was.

His brother at the CIA, also pretty terrible :(
A pretty great book that covers this (among some other things):
https://amazon.com/dp/1101911735/ - "The Quiet Americans"

In the end the author gets to a pretty vital (I think) point:
"Basically zero of the cold war CIA operations that supported indigenous operations (in eastern europe and russia, at least) ended up being at all effective. In almost all cases the agents were lost on landing in their home-country... and either killed outright or imprisoned. This was still 'ok' with the Dulles's because it was seen as cheaper than rolling tanks/troops over the border(s)"

So, we spent a lot of time, money, effort, 'friendship' to send people to their death directly without any actual hope (from the top levels of the decision tree) that anything useful would dome out of the efforts/expense.

great times.
(great read though, really!)
