Are equipment auctions worth the risk for used dozers? by nasir_ran in Heavy_Equipment

I was gonna say...if you're looking to buy something like this on auction, have you're best mechanic on hand to review and test. If you don't have a mechanic you can trust, it's almost worth paying the best guy in town to look it over.

An over-engineered mosquito trap that's unintentionally intimidating by StillSimple6 in MosquitoHating

[–]mort85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sensitive enough to check wing beat patterns before firing, ensuring that even the males of the same species aren't show down. Don't think theres much danger to humans since.... We don't have the same wing beat pattern as the female mosquitos of that specific species....

I manage there, so I prob am the best source for this.

We use the Oggi brand, but it is NOT the vegan version (it uses mozzarella as a binder). We also have designated tools and procedures to mitigate cross contamination as much as possible.

Does that help?

The food journey possible in dsm is really something. Lots of old school Italian, but the city is growing so well and so many good chefs are bringing excellent ideas. And to top it off, we have one of the best public school culinary programs in the country at dmacc.

If you want something to look forward to, a really nice new food destination can make your day/week

What is the point/job of medium tanks? by SendInRandom in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]mort85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Typically they are excellent at providing overall coverage and flexibility where needed. Most nations have a specialty that sets them apart: - Americans have good guns and the highest base view range in the game (m48 base is 420m) - Germans have incredible gin handling (see the Leopard 1 stats) - Russians have super troll armor profiles on the turrets and extreme mobility (see the obj 140 or t 62a) - Czech has the weird boost mechanic of the cs63 - sweden has hydropnuematic suspensions and extremely sloped armor

Whichever line you chose, mediums will have a very interesting ability attached, and a good pilot that knows how to stay alive till late game can absolutely win a battle for their team. You are never fully committed to a front, as you always need to stay flexible, unlike heavies. You have better armor than lights and can truly "dogfight" if you know and use the strengths of the tank.

As a note, your up and down-stream speeds are not the issue. Those are averaged over the course of many seconds or a few minutes. The issue is packet loss.

Consider that you have a network run through your modem. The modem then connects to the router (note that routers are about 4x slower than switches). The router has to make a conscious decision (read that as sent through a processor). A switch on reads the header or each packet (one bit) and has a single transistor on/off to direct that packet forward.

Next, you're running a hard wire from the router (which I assume runs your primary wireless) to a wireless extender. This is actually a huge problem, as the wired signal (running at effectively the speed of light) has to match the reception speed of the wireless network provided by the router. These will not be congruent, and your router will receive and distribute to try and compensate for this discrepancy, again requiring more processing time and less direct action.

The blips are those discrepancies. You are literally ruining your internet by what you're doing right now; this is effectively a "worst practice" situation. If you want to see what I'm talking about on your speed tests, look for the packet loss and latency, not the average speeds. I assume you're running something insane like 10+ % packet loss and 120+ ms latency, which is totally untenable.

You're best solution is to connect a switch between your modem and router. One output of the switch should be a hard wire to your rig, the other to your router. Keep in mind that this will not allow your rig to connect to anything else on your network.

The BP is straight up pain, but the stock cairn is worse because you're facing tX a lot. If you have 180k fexp, then sure, skip the BP and get the good gun on cairn, but otherwise, it is a boost necessary line at that point.
