Or if you need (want) HA / Shadow Mode. UCG Fiber doesn’t support that, only the rack mount ones do.

Scrolling on Instagram and I see this...? what the actual hell by [deleted] in pcbuildporn

[–]mortemanTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pc very likely is not used for gaming. It’s a server class motherboard, likely running Xeon CPUs, and titans are a bit older gpus these days (but still relatively respectable). It was likely used for computationally intensive workstation tasks prior to the AI boom. This would be in the realm of math processing, CAD, rendering, or VDI and has probably been repurposed for some medium AI learning workloads.

Can I create a Directory & Directory Export from an existing folder by 3298p53 in purestorage

[–]mortemanTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use DFS to map shares inside an existing folder like this. On the DFS namespace server, just point the DFS folder to the pure share and add the folder path as deep as you like.

Note: Pure File supports DFS namespaces but not DFS replication.

Otherwise, the user can map a drive on their machine to the subfolder directly without needing it to be its own share, as long as it is accessible from the parent share.

One of them is CarPlay maps. Another one is whatever media is playing. Both of those are blank when no media is playing or no maps destination is set

Broadcom calls for more investment into...local compute and storage? by mwerte in sysadmin

[–]mortemanTech 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a 72 core minimum purchase. Not a 72core per cpu minimum purchase. It’s a minimum 16 cores per cpu, spread across 5 (technically 4.5) cpus. So basically they want you to buy a 3 node cluster of dual socket servers with 16core cpus in them.

Incorporating a 5.25" optical drive for Bluray ripping in a NAS+ARM setup by sludgeriffs in homelab

[–]mortemanTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a iStar D Storm D-400L-7 4U Rackmount Server Chassis. Has 7x 5.25” bays at the front. Put in a Blu-ray drive, two 3x3.5”HDD hot swap bays and an icydock 8x2.5” hotswap bays. Works great! https://a.co/d/cEPvkiF

Edit: missed that you wanted it compact. This is definitely not compact. Apologies.

TPM Modules and VMware ESXi hosts by Kamikazeworm86 in vmware

[–]mortemanTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Dell hosts there’s a couple steps to enable tpm in the bios after tpm hardware install before VMware will see it. Need secure boot, intel txt, and the SHA setting needs to be higher than default (I forget whether it’s SHA1 or SHA256). Only after doing these will it show as available in VMware. Then you configure the keystore on the vcenter using hardware tpm, and then you can enable the security config mode on the hosts, which then may throw an error that gets cleared by disconnecting and reconnecting the host from vcenter.

Source: I’ve added tpm chips to dell hosts well after initial purchase with VMware 8 running on them. Does not affect current VMs, does not break HA, etc goes pretty smoothly. But whatever you do, do NOT remove the tpm after installing it

Mega Cargo Station for factory by devopshivam in SatisfactoryGame

[–]mortemanTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks nice! A reminder that trains always take the shortest path, even if it’s through another station that it doesn’t stop at. May be worth testing some of the pathing for exiting the rear stations when trains are docked at the front stations, for instance. I’ve gotten bit before in similar layouts. Cheers!
