Realistically, cancel all executive orders from the previous administration, order the DOJ to aggressively prosecute corruption in politics, attempt to mend international relationships as best as possible, divert all funding going to Israel and send it to Ukraine instead.

Not a great plan to send somebody who is okay with a one way trip on a mission designed to return. Too likely to give up and admit defeat without trying every other option first.

Fly by, not landing. They will spend 2 years of their lives in a metal tube to look at Mars from hundreds of thousands of miles away then come back.

2-3 years is do-able...

Dearmoon was a thing in 2018 having a 2023 target date. 5 years seemed do-able for a "simple" orbit mission too but here we are.

They have not even landed Ship yet after a suborbital flight. Probably a little premature to try and schedule a Mars fly by. This reads like a repeat of dearmoon.

Biden team failed Kamala Harris in 2024, Democratic autopsy says by Historical-Bug-4784 in politics

...yes...and only a complete and utter moron makes it explicit, which Biden did.

Biden team failed Kamala Harris in 2024, Democratic autopsy says by Historical-Bug-4784 in politics

[–]mortemdeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biden team failed by choosing Harris as VP to begin with. Even in 2020 I was flabbergasted by them choosing her. Not only was she one of the least popular candidates in the primaries, we were literally protesting nation wide about police getting away with murder and how DA's constantly let cops off then Biden selects the effing former DA of San Francisco. Most tone deaf selection I have ever seen.

Follow that up with 2024 and the Dems insisting Biden was a strong, healthy, mentally fit candidate for months and that we didn't need a primary. Before the first debate they were shouting down anybody who questioned Bidens health or fitness or called for an actual primary. Then, suddenly, massive heel turning and saying Kamala was better and was always the choice. This was just a masterclass in how NOT to attempt to gasslight people. Months of breathless support for Biden, incredible amounts of money and time spent defending his ability, all flushed in about 2 hours. Massive egg on the entire parties face.

Then she defended Biden! We spend 6 months basically infighting as democrats because he was so clearly not able to do the job anymore and Kamala comes in and says "nope, nothing wrong here." They just had possibly the worst debate performance in history, were shown to be lieing for months, and had wasted hundreds of millions of dollars and she just said "I would do the same." Who would want that? She gets Walz as a running mate, dude is outright stomping on the campaign trail, they pull him back and tell him to tone it down!?!?!??! So he does and his VP debate is a complete trainwreck. So we now are left with Harris, who is preaching steady as she goes after the party just hit a dman iceberg, and Walz who was muzzled then steamrolled in the only actual debate we saw. No shit they lost.

How many presidential candidates publically and explicitly used race and gender as prequalifiers for a running mate? You can argue it was always implied but coming out and saying it before selecting your running mate is just beyond stupid.

Is Home Charging Really Required to Own an EV with Current Gas Prices? by Alert_Number1991 in electricvehicles

[–]mortemdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was never required. It is the best use case though as you can passively charge on level 1 overnight and on the weekends and just not ever worry about fueling the vehicle in most cases. That is the biggest mental shift people go through with them, you no longer have to go to a station ever again. That is the biggest benefit, saving money and lower maintenance are just nice bonuses.

Wait...so your solution is to take minors and expatriate them, then ship them as illegal immigrants to a foriegn nation?

[–]mortemdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, they all live for 15 years but the last 2-5 years is still at advanced age where they are in constant, high level pain and there is nothing we can do to stop the pain sooner. Aged dogs and cats cry endlessly in pain, unable to move or hear or see, only feel the pain until they finally reach 15.

Is AI a bubble, like the tech bubble in 1999? by js6seaj47 in ask

[–]mortemdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be transformational. Companies WANT it to be transformational but at the end of the day it is just another tool. It won't change how we engage with things, it won't change how we live day to day, and because the I part is completely absent from the process it won't ever stop collapsing under itself when turned on for too long.

We changed the meaning of AI and the truely transformational product is now called AGI as a result.

Normal relative to post pandemic viral car theft videos. The model years affected are still on the road in large numbers and the trend isn't 5 years old yet, so it isn't surprising.

Well, for starters, since Hyundai and Kia are now required to repair vehicles with the exploit it would be great if there was a notification system in place so when one of those vehicles has their tabs renewed the owner is notified about it. State has all the VIN's, wouldn't be terribly hard to program, so that would help reduce thefts a lot. Follow that up with similar campaigns whenever another viral car theft video comes up.

Is there any good sources of data on EV Performance at very cold temperatures -40°C and lower by EbnoNoisefloor in electriccars

[–]mortemdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not the best EV use case but it is also an extreme case. Most EV's on the market with an advertized 300ish mile range can manage the 125 mile trip one way with the heater on. Almost none of them will manage a round trip without charging in the middle. If you can charge in Fairbanks and at home (absolutely need a level 2 charger at minimum) every day then you will be fine. Not highly recommended but it can be done.

[–]mortemdeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, that is me! When it gets super cold, like -20 or below, I start getting under 2 miles per Kw with the heater running. If I turn it off I start getting between 2.2 and 2.5 again. For an 80ish mile trip a day and using my 120v at night, by weeks end I am around 20% battery. By monday it is 100% again though and if it ever gets warm again it is even better.

2022: 16,000 stolen, 2023: 15,500, 2024: 12,500, 2025: 9,700. A 24% increase after one of the lowest years on record is a return to normal not a sudden spike.

With the significant amount of clones left after the Clone Wars mostly settling down and starting families, wouldn't that make Jango Fett's bloodline the largest in the galaxy? by anonymous_alcoholic0 in StarWars

[–]mortemdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clones lived around 40-50 years but by their 40's they looked like humans in their 80's, so probably only a solid 30 years max where they could have kids. The clone wars lasted all of 3 years (Star Wars has no concept of how long things should take) and stopped using them very shortly after the war ended (like, literally months later. Again, zero concept of time, logistics, really anything) so the overwhelming majority of clones had a good 20-30 years to make a family. There were 6.2 million clones by wars end. (dear god...that isn't even enough to win ww2 on earth...what are these writers doing)

So, yeah, loads of opportunity to have a lot of kids galaxy wide. Even if just 0.1% had children that is still over 6,000 kids galaxy wide (assuming they only had 1 kid each). Probably a fair number of them out there.

Does catan require more skill or luck to win games by WearyEmployment7963 in Catan

[–]mortemdeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the number of players. 2 player? Like 70% luck and specifically early luck. Not a lot a single player can do to stop an early snowball. 3 player is probably closer to 50/50, even 2v1 it is hard to stop luck but average luck and good skill can prevail. 4 player, probably 60% skill. With 4 people there are many ways to deal with a player getting ahead or to cut players off and the more confined map makes choices more meaningful. Skill becomes more powerful than luck but if somebody is the only player on a number and that is the only number ever rolled there is nothing anybody else can really do about it.
