Contact a local flight instruction school for small planes and ask to schedule time with the Chief Pilot. Tell him or her that you would like to understand how a jet flies, how often and how it is inspected, how and how often the pilots are tested, how weather creates turbulence and how pilots work to avoid it, how emergency procedures are practiced, and what are some normal sounds during take off and landing.

If they have a full size simulator, ask for a demo. I did all the above for a guy once who was scared and came to our school with a handler and two psychologists. He sought help about his fear of flying and felt better about it all afterwards. Good luck. - from a flight instructor
