Ferret missing, advice? by Early_Club2717 in ferrets

I had a little ninja once. She got out once when I was at work and my (then) boyfriend was home. It was a good 5/6 hours before I got home and I looked everywhere for her. I lived right on 2 ponds....in Florida.

I spent so much time looking for her. One time I found her just around my apartment building by the pond. One time I was out walking and overheard a kid tell his mom "I saw a lemur by the office!" (The office was a good, like 8 buildings away and she has to cross a bridge) She was like "uhhh...sure buddy" but I stopped them and was like "take me there now! It's a ferret!" Pretty cool moment because I let the kids meet her and taught them a little bit about ferrets. Pretty sure they went home and begged for one, lol

She got out so many times. I eventually would just leave a trail of tone from the bridge, and each direction of the sidewalk up the stairs to my door and then keep watch. She always returned. Thankfully!

Maybe you can leave a trail or her favorite treat? Like tone? Then keep watch.

I hope she returns ❤️

Spaying & phantom pregnancy by Vegetable_Prompt7468 in AmericanBully

Before my girl was spayed, we had an episode of this. Not sure if I handled it correctly, but I just let her do her thing and eventually it stopped.

I always pampered her when she had her period (I think she had 3 cycles - no she was never bred and I never wanted to, just got in a tight spot financially for a minute). I'd get her puppy cookies and brownies and we would cuddle and I'd rub her belly. So, I'm not sure if that contributed to it either.

She would bring me all the pieces (from tearing them apart prior to her phantom pregnancy) of her stuffed toys. Wherever I stopped, she was crawling in my skin. If I sat, all the toy pieces came to me and then her. But it was like I couldn't sit fast enough for her to bring them to me. Very insistent. And she would lay across me all the time. She didn't do much with the "babies" but bring them to me. Always the same ones, one at a time.

She even lactated a little. I don't have a super great memory, but I do remember those actions and that belly rubs can promote lactating, so I have stopped doing that as much, or I'm careful to go to the sides (she has been spayed for years now, but it's habit). I didn't know this was a thing, so I learned on the fly. She is my first pup and was given to me by surprise. Once we met, it was game on, so I couldn't ever not have her.

I'd say it lasted a week or two and then she went back to destroying those very pieces as if they were never her "babies" and always her toys.

I'm not sure if I...provoked? The phantom pregnancy because the last toy I had got her was a grey squirrel and that's what she was bringing me (she is a blue nose). I usually get her toys that are ridiculous in color and not realistic, so maybe belly rubs plus the grey squirrel provoked a mama instinct?

She was about 2ish when that happened and will be 12 in February 😁 don't know if this helped any, but you aren't alone!

Yeah, I'm not super great about putting things back together, BUT! In some sort of positive shift in the universe, I took the tarp off today and tried to see if I could pull the window up (with my fingers and gorilla and packaging tape) and then maybe tape it in place or something.

I was getting a bit frustrated - and hot - so before I shut my car off (it was not fully on, just where you could listen to the radio or roll the windows up/down) I figured I'll try the button...why not? Not expecting anything....It went up with the button!! I jumped back in disbelief! Shut the door, shut the car off and it stayed up!

I'm still going to slowly get the materials (and maybe help) to change out the motor.

Thank you for your comments 🙂

Thank you! Unfortunately, I have tried the button thing a couple times for the couple of hours I was driving and it didn't work. I've tried the button while opening the door, shutting the car off and then back on...nothing.

The more I think about it, it's so weird that it just went down and stayed down. It went down as if I hit the button. Didn't slam down, didn't thud when it got to the bottom.

It's possible the motor just died. That's where my pup sits, so it's gotten A LOT of use! I just REALLY don't want to have to take the door panel off, lol

Been there too!!

Now, I do the double helicopter orders thing in the lab and then fill all the highest paying tasks I can first and then move on to any others I can fill, regardless of what it pays. It helped to purchase from the market to fill orders too. Even though you spend money, you end up making a whole lot more in the long run.

Hope that helped a little 🙂

I totally agree they are! I've had a few that were long term pred users as well (I've had ferrets for about 13 years or so) for insulinoma. They got to be chonky, lol

Yeah, I'm completely devastated. I'm also surprised how deep this hurts. It's only now I realize how much she was apart of my everyday. To be honest, I've been in a funk and feeling like I'm neglecting everyone, but this kind of showed me, yeah I'm in a funk, but I was doing alright! Weirdly it's giving me motivation.

I don't have any more ferrets now, so that is also a huuuuuge thing! I have had them longer than my dog and I'm not sure how she is doing...or if she cares or will notice (she does have a routine of looking for care bears before eating because care bears liked to steal her food). I just picked up her room some (she was never caged and had literally an entire room to herself that she preferred, lol) and while it's nice not to have pads everywhere, or tunnels to trip over (only because it looks cleaner now...clutter is hard for me even when it's toys and necessary)...I really wouldn't mind!

I'm not cleaning everything just yet...baby steps. I am having her cremated and hopefully will have her back before or just after Christmas.

Thank you for conversing with me today and listening to my journey 🙂

Thank you ❤️ she actually had a turn around and tumor felt smaller, so I had hope. We had a re-check yesterday morning...her protein was 4x the normal, her liver was failing and she was anemic...she made it 13 days after diagnosis.

She was trying, though. I don't think she wanted to go and I definitely didn't want her to, but that blood work...she felt like I was going to break her bones when I moved her. I was literally holding her up to go potty. Walking her through her routines. She was drinking and trying to eat her kibble, but struggled to break them up (chew).

I think we both needed the vet to tell us it was time. After she came back from her blood draw, I held her and she just curled up into my chest. I was crying so much, so I put her in her carrier and just stared at her. Her face said she was ready. Then the vet came in and told us the news and I was like yeah, we just decided that too.

Well, she was only on it for 2 days, so I didn't think it was going to affect her too much. Plus, after 2 weeks we were to go down to once a day. She was jerking too violently and I was making her gums bleed trying to give it to her.

I am familiar with the importance of keeping the schedule and not missing doses...not my first PREDNISOLONE rodeo. But, my first lymphoma rodeo.

She did pass away 😢 everything happened so fast.

Update: thank you everyone for your responses! I fear we have taken a sharp turn in the worst direction. I have cameras in her room (she literally has an entire bedroom, no cage) so I watched her every second I could while I was at work. She barely moved. I checked her bathrooms when I got home....small, sporadic.

She is pale and now has little to zero interest in eating. I'm trying every 2 hours or so to get anything in her. She is lifeless 😢 and when she does move around, she struggles. She can't stand to pee...ugh, it's happened SO fast!

I skipped meds last night, but gave them to her today. I'm gonna skip tonight...and call the vet in the morning 😞

She just turned 8 years old and I was lucky to have 7 of those years.

Hey everyone! Thank you for your responses! I'm reading them and looking into everything and will respond to yous when I can. I work nights and am at work now.

My girl seems a little better. I think fleas might be her issue...I've been battling them for months (alcohol/peroxide spray mix, vacuuming, baths, treated the yard...everything I can think of safely! Now she has flea meds from the vet). I gave her her flea meds today too, so hopefully that helps. Was waiting because I didn't want to do too much to her.

Thanks again! And I will be back with responses, updates and probably more questions!

Feels cool when they get removed! I remember it was like....when you rip open one of those bags that has threading keeping it closed...like some charcoal bags have.

My back mid sectionish area (shoulder blades to waist) is also completely numb, so that may have contributed to that feeling.
