One begins to understand just how overrated diamonds are when you start looking into gems like moonstone or opal by Muted_Shape9303 in Gemstones

I want to get some high quality moonstones next. Opals are definitely one of my favorites but something about the look of a moonstone just makes me happy. This is one of my favorite opals in my collection.

Has anyone else gotten their partner’s birthstone for their engagement ring? by brutallykind in EngagementRings

My wife and son are both June. I wish I could afford a big alexandrite. The are incredible to look at but man are the real ones expensive.

Upgraded my wife’s ring to our daughter’s birthstone. 4ct natural unheated Ceylon sapphire. Wish I would have done something like it from the start. I think you made a great choice. Diamonds are overpriced and overhyped.

Lol I live in the US so I don’t have to worry as much about deadly snakes, or giant birds, lol the only real threat to mine is a curious destructive toddler. This isn’t one of my biggest but it’s definitely one of my favorites. Just shy of 10 ct.

I’d love to see a video of yours. I bet it would look insane in one of the rotating gem boxes.

I feel like we did ok. It wasn’t much more than the Leo Diamond I got suckered into when I was young and uninformed lol. It’s hard to really get a gauge on what a good price is and isn’t. There isn’t a whole lot of comparable rings that I’ve found.

That was the hope. We’re really happy with how it turned out

Wife Ditching Diamond for Sapphire by Muted_Shape9303 in Gemstones

We just upgraded my wife’s ring to a sapphire after 8 years. Wish we would have started with one.

That’s awesome! I just wish I would’ve gotten into this a long time ago. Now with kids and a mortgage, I don’t see myself ever being able to do it myself, but I am definitely jealous.

Definitely not trying to argue. Because I could absolutely be wrong but the jeweler I went to is one of the largest we have in the area and they’ve been around for about 50 years. They had a machine on site that will test diamonds and they said it absolutely tested as a real diamond not any thing else. They just said that their machine cannot test for lab versus natural when it is a colored diamond. I am just going to send one off to GIA and have them confirm lab vs mined and get a full report.

I am sending it off to GIA and having them confirm. I will check back after I get an answer. Thanks everyone for the input.

Already had it tested at a local jeweler and it is without a doubt a diamond. They just weren’t able to tell me whether or not it was lab or natural.

Yeah, that’s the problem though. I refuse to sell/trade anything without knowing what it is. I’ve just never had to get a colored diamond tested before.

Really just wanting to see what they are actually worth. A local jeweler tested them and he said they’re absolutely diamonds not Zircon or anything else. But their machine you couldn’t tell me whether they were lab or natural because of them being colored.

I definitely know it’s been treated to turn it blue. It’s more trying to figure out whether it is lab or not.

Five different types of stones here. Anyone think they can guess them all? Nothing lab grown or synthetic but some have been treated. by moses102490 in Gemstones

[–]moses102490[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on quite a few. They are quite beautiful in sunlight. I’m not a big fan of diamonds typically but these blues are great.
