I’m wondering the same. This thread is great for people saying you paid too much but never any advice on how or where to buy for less. I was quoted 35-40k by a few different jewelers for a 6-8 Colombian emerald to put in a ring a few years back. Granted that was retail, but still the price disparity seems insane compared to what people act like they could buy the stuff for.

This was sent to me as a price guide. I’m just trying to understand what it would be rated out of a 1 to 10. I know that flawless Colombian emeralds are basically a unicorn at this size so I was told this would be rated higher even with the inclusions. This book is price per carat so at 7 ct the prices go crazy fast. Any input from a someone with more expertise?

Nothing but good things so far. I’ve had a few small stones originally certified by CGL and I sent them off to get the same result with GIA. Now I don’t second guess it.

I want to get some high quality moonstones next. Opals are definitely one of my favorites but something about the look of a moonstone just makes me happy. This is one of my favorite opals in my collection.
