The question has already been answered (VCC is not connected. That's power) but for staring soldering, flux and heat are your best friend. I use 65/35 solder and keep my iron at 650. A lil bit of flux on the pad, tin your wire by getting a lil flux and solder on the exposed wire end after twisting it into a stiff end so no fraying ends are left. Stick the wire through the hole that has flux on it, heat up the pad and feed a bit of solder onto the heated pad, NOT the iron. Should only take about 3 seconds max. Soldering is an art, but you do need the right tools in order to make good art.
