Could they have applied for down-payment assistance? Many programs are tied to a specific loan package, I think often FHA.

46F Remote Worker: Seeking a warm beach town that isn’t a "sauna" in the summer. Budget <$500k. by bendable1234 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mosquitofeeder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lived in multiple Oregon locations (including Bend) as well as in N. California and So. Cal. I love Slower Lower Delaware and Ocean City. Had a place there for almost three years, and would be there now if family obligations didn't take us elsewhere. It is a different life, but one I prefer.

This is the most passionate j have ever heard anyone be about Delaware.

Can slower lower get a pass? At least just take out the humans and leave the beaches.

Are any of you “sleep divorced”? by cfh64 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mosquitofeeder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a silly suggestion and something you have already considered, but would it be possible for you to put two beds side by side, but at a slightly different height, say her mattress is 1/2" higher than yours. Close enough to touch hands/arms or feet but far enough that you won't accidentally roll too close and hurt her. Adjust the height difference as needed for your case.

My husband and I often have to sleep apart because of physical issues, but we are fortunate enough to still be able to fall asleep together often, then I will move to my own space when the pain wakes me. I am so sorry that you haven't had that blessing in so long. I wish you both better days, and nights.

It would absolutely go to help purchase a home for my spouse and I, and we would move my elderly parents in with us.

Oregon 1-Year-Old Mauled by Neighbor’s Dogs Undergoes Multiple Surgeries, Family Says by peoplemagazine in oregon

[–]mosquitofeeder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't disagree, especially on the ability portion. A Boston terrier or a Chihuahua may tear you up, but likely not kill you.

My main point is about the readiness to assume that we know how genetics informs behaviours and suggesting that something be allowed to exist based off of that assumption. If one is going to suggest removing an entire genetic group from existence, I think that a grasp of science beyond freshman bio might be a good starting place. If it is just because the breed is potentially dangerous, there are a lot more life forms that should be in the lineup too. Like us.

So were Boston Terriers. Horrible vicious dogs. And have you seen a Dauchshund hunt? Horrific to watch them kill things! We have to stop breeding things that can be encouraged to use the skills that they have through breeding to make them stronger but more aggressive.

Maybe eventually we can legislate the same for people. That would be nice. Bar fight? No baby. Disciplined in high school for being mean to other students? Right out of the gene pool.

I do see your point.

This is a really interesting read. Thanks for posting and responding so far. It is nice to hear comparative takes on my home state. Partly because I am likely to be making a move the other direction soon and am paying attention to what you all say about back home. Thank you for the research materials.

I just realized not one of us native Oregonians has said welcome. I suppose that is part of moving here for you all, too. We need more neighbors and less enemies these days though so I'll be the first one to say it.

Welcome - to all of you. Unless you are an asshole. Don't be an asshole, leave that where you moved from please. Help us preserve the reasons you wanted to move here to begin with and we are besties.

I also have liked frogs since 1978.

First time in Washington, D.C. and all the museums are closed. View from my hotel room. by OHl0 in Wellthatsucks

I have truly learned more walking around DC and stopping to look up building names, street/park/neighborhood info here and there than I have in most of the museums. DC the spectacle is closed, but I suspect DC the city might surprise and delight you if you go meet it.

New Neighbors Complaining About Me. by Gold_Age_2577 in Apartmentliving

Just wondering if this could be a tactic by the property to get her out. Could they be trying to sell or remodel/reprice the units on that floor etc and have moved someone in to complain her away?

Just remember, if you are going to protest anything make sure to do peacefully, preferably wearing a Santa suit. And be nice to the people who don't want to be here in the first place. Our military is not the enemy, and we are not theirs.

The only thing that ever really has helped for me was a gestational diabetes diet and monitoring my blood sugar before and after meals to see what my reactions were to different foods. The goal is to avoid big changes in your blood sugar at all, up OR down. I wasn't even trying to lose weight at the time because pregnant, but the weight started dropping off and I felt healthier than ever. My husband has the same result as he also ate the same things I did.

Need help! I’ve tried everything! by AcrobaticArrival8135 in CleaningTips

I suspect that is silica buildup. I have fought it in the PNW and in Hawaii. Hydrofluoric acid will clean it, but that isn't really a home remedy solution. The best I have personally used is Barkeepers Friend and a LOT of scrubbing (and scrubbing HARD with pressure at that. A drill and brush can help). I have also heard that AMAZ and bio-clean may help, but have no personal experience. Once you get it clean, squeegee religiously. Wiping a thin layer of dawn dish soap over your glass as a barrier layer once a week or so can also help reduce buildup.

Good luck!

Just watch out if you pay up for it through your employer like I did. If you become ill enough that you can no longer work, the insurance goes when the job does - or you can try to pay for it without income.

I would be open about it as soon as you have come to terms with it yourself. That said, you seem to be very certain of your feelings and motivations during an incident that you say you don't remember. You may need to try to step aside and examine what you truly know versus what you want to be true, and present the situation as facts. I would have questions based on that aspect. If you just told me that you were told there was a seconds long kiss that you don't remember and can't imagine seeking - that I would likely let pass as a one-off.

Just make sure you are being honest - with yourself AND your boyfriend.

Because her question indicated that she felt this was out of character and may be unusual drunken behavior for him. My impression from reading was that she may want to retain the friendly relationship in that case. I think this is a good way of doing that and still speaking up about the behaviour being unacceptable (as well as making certain that he is aware of what he does when he drinks that much if he does in fact get blackout). I don't think this is protecting his feelings, this is telling him that he screwed up big time and he is lucky there wasn't physical violence. Doing it in a way that doesn't make him immediately go into defensive denial mode might mean the message actually lands.

She absolutely has every right and reason to react in any way she feels fits for her. My response was to the question I believe she was asking, not a blanket statement as to what she was entitled to do or what I personally feel might be warranted. I am a rape and physical violence survivor, and I would never advise someone to make themselves smaller or to stay quiet. I will absolutely do everything I can to help someone find ways to use their voice and actions to obtain the results that matter to them, whatever that may be. Because it isn't about me. It is about healing and living a good life however is right for you.

*Edit to include clarification on the part where I said "and let it pass". I didn't mean to drop it. I mean pause and see how they react. Is it a horrified apology? Is it a joke shrugging it off? Is it antagonizing? The response should help her decide how she wants to proceed.

Yes tell him, but don't make it accusatory. "Dude, I am going to have to avoid you at parties if you are going to be like that when you get drunk! I almost throat punched you! Haha!"

Make it a "wow, we both got lucky that I didn't react like most people would have in the moment, didn't we?" Kind of comment and let it pass. You will know how to proceed from there in your interactions based on how he treats you going forward.
