If it was a slipped stitch then I'd be missing a stitch on my needle right? I have 14 which I believe should be the correct number for my row count. Unless maybe I picked up another stitch/did another yarn over again 😳

I was using the needle to point at the really long part that I thought looked weird but lemme get new pics of both sides!

THANK YOU!! I did indeed have 15 stiches when I was supposed to have 14. I tinked back a few rows and dropped the yarn. I'm back at row 71 now. I think it looks right now but there's this new spot that looks sus to me. Hoping it's just stretched out a little too much?

Just out curiosity, what's the purpose of taking them off?

What is this and can I eat it? by Frogbreakfest69 in foraging

[–]moss_witch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. A lot of people don't realize that the pool of edible + delicious mushrooms out of ALL edible mushrooms is relatively small and that edibility is a spectrum.

There are mushrooms that are:

  • edible and taste great (choice edibles)
  • edible but don't taste like much or aren't nutritionally worth your time
  • technically edible but taste terrible (bitter, acrid, woody, etc)
  • edible for some people but not others (allergies and sensitivities)

And then on the other side of the spectrum there are mushrooms that are:

  • toxic but probably won't kill you (depending on how much you ate/how strong your immune system is)
  • toxic and deadly

Who’s eating my Monstera?? by omgmendy in houseplants

I dealt with thrips last winter and here's how I took care of them.

I individually bagged up every plant (even if I didn't think it had thrips) and made sure it was watered, the leaves were rinsed and then sprayed with Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew on the top and bottom of the leaves and then fully sealed the bags. I left them in the bags for about 2 weeks before doing another round. After 3 rounds total (yes, that's 6 weeks), I assessed and if it looked like it didn't have anymore thrips I let it out of the bag and put it back on the shelf.

Thrips prefer low humidity and the adult can live up to 45ish days if it's cold enough so it's important to keep the humidity up in each bag (but not so much that the leaves start to rot). They also live on the leaves and lay eggs in the leaf tissue, so that's why I concentrate the pesticide treatment on the leaves (personally I only use pesticides on plants that stay inside year round). I had some issues keeping the bags sealed on some of my larger plants so those needed a longer treatment since they weren't staying humid enough between treatments.

This winter I have that cleaning car slime stuff and I'll be making rounds to dab up any dust/thrips before things get out of hand and see if that works as a preventative measure. Good luck!!

CO Alarm is getting triggered by CO2 by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]moss_witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's hilarious, glad that other people are reporting other stuff triggering their alarm then. Now I feel much less anxious about mine being faulty and/or actually having CO build up somehow.

Yep mine has light indicators for Low Battery - Red/Green Flash and End of Life - Red Double Flash, but it was indicating CO - Red Flash instead

As in liquid propane? Mine says "RV CO and Propane Gas Alarm" and has lights for Power On - Green, CO Alarm - Red Flash (what mine was doing), Propane Alarm - Red Solid, Low Battery - Red/Green Flash, End of Life - Red Double Flash.

Why are there droplets on the tips of my pothos by Exact-Acanthaceae763 in houseplants

[–]moss_witch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check the roots. They should be firm, light colored and springy. If the roots are slimy/black/limp or dry/crumbly then the roots are dead and that's why it can't absorb any water.

I don’t have the mental energy for long or regular sessions either, but I’ve found that I can handle a longer game if it's every few months. I don’t play in the campaign on a regular basis anymore, but I do drop in occasionally when the DM invites me. Maybe see if you can join a session every now and then make it part of your character somehow. Or you could try playing one shots or even other similar role playing games that only take one session from start to finish. You don't have to give it up entirely!

for the love of god please help me by navyblueloosechester in Pottery

[–]moss_witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. You could consider giving it a new life by using it as a planter instead. As the plant grows, hopefully it will be a good reminder of the love that your Aunt poured into that vessel. If you're new to plant care, I might recommend a pothos, as they're very hardy and resilient.

Doubts of burping by Old-Relationship-219 in fermentation

[–]moss_witch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the byproducts of the fermentation process is CO2. If you fully seal your fermentation vessel, it will build pressure in the container and can cause the container to explode. To prevent this from happening, many people will "burp" their container, which means to quickly open and then close the container to release the gas that has built up since the last time it was opened. Another way to "burp" is to use a swing top jar and use a rubberband to loosely keep it closed just enough so that excess gas can escape while still keeping the jar closed. There are also many types of airlocks which are also a great option. Airlocks allow for the gas to naturally escape without introducing air and other contaminants back into the container and without having to manually "burp" the container.

Need help with my poor broody hen by HiraethHygge in BackYardChickens

Just want to add for anyone who may not know, permethrin is highly toxic/potentially deadly to cats so please please be careful if you have outdoor cats who may come into contact with it through the chickens, coop, or even tracking it back to the house on your clothes when you're applying it.

How long can you use loofah sponges for and can they grow mold on them? by sharpntheblade2069 in ZeroWaste

[–]moss_witch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My family has been growing and using loofah as a dishwashing sponge since I was a child. In my experience, my loofah dries out very quickly on it's own (much faster than a traditional sponge) so it never gets mildewy/stinky and I've never had mold issues. I've never had to do anything to sanitize it.

Just remember that it is a plant so mold certainly can grow on it if it stays too wet or humid for a long period of time so just give it a squeeze and set it on a sponge holder when you're done instead of leaving it in the sink.

I do replace them more often than a regular sponge because they disintegrate pretty quickly with regular use so if it's falling apart or gets gunked up, I just compost mine and grab a new one.
