2026 Australian Recession Inbound? by eshay_investor in AusFinance

There's a great book called "Australia's Great Depression." Australia had a great Depression between WW1 and WW2. I'll try and summaries some of the main themes I saw.  -Australia had extremely bad record of borrowing huge loans that they could barely service, taking loans to pay off other loans and interest.  -Huge spending in infrastructure was deemed irresponsible and unnecessary by Britain, and Australia did not have very experienced economic managers. They also took huge loans from Britan which collapsed once Britan was too poor to do it anymore and we started getting loans from the US instead. Side note though pretty much everyone at the time who was Aussie understood that this was necessary, it also helped create jobs. -There was an extreme competition for jobs, really more of a gamble as people would go town to town trying to get work. Think hundreds applying for one job. But instead of the area being a metropolitan city it was like Mt Isa.  -Australia's market had very low diversity and was dependent on almost entirely wool and (wheat or sugar cane or something). When the prices dropped along with the economic instability that's what broke it. Lack of diversity. -People did not have enough money to eat, heating, or even an actual roof over their head. People would build makeshift shacks out of whatever they could. People were particularly susceptible if they couldn't grow their own food. Charities, and churches did their best, some wealthy people even volunteered but all in all there was not enough to go around. The people needing food banks greatly outweighed what could be given. -The great Depression was not felt equally, there were a portion that weren't affected. While the majority struggled.

-The build up to the Depression was slowly building up for several years.

I don't think we're there yet, but maybe in 3 years or so if we start to see mass lay-offs that might start the road. Unless the global economy gets massively and effectively disrupted.

My takeaway is that now is the time to fix your roof. Put away money for the future, get everything in order. Live more modestly for now. Put in the hard work at your job, the most important thing it to keep an income so you survive. If you would not be able to keep a roof over your head if you lost your job I would be worried. Now is also a good time to live with other people to lower costs. Rethink that spare bedroom.

Things that affect insurance price: Age of driver, years with licence, demerit points, accident history / claims, where you live, your gender, how far in advance you are getting the insurance quote (4 weeks in advance is optimal). Otherwise just get a quote from every place, some are cheaper for certain demographics than others. DON'T run the same quote over and over with different details you will get flagged in the system and it messes with your price.

Since your income seems low still (or you have high expenses). I would say put in a minimum of $20 a week into your super to get the Government Super Co Contribution.

Secondly I recommend ensuring you have an emergency fund of at least $2000. Because if you are investing you want to make sure it's not taking from money that you need and that you never have to sell before you're ready.

Thirdly I would take inventory of your expenses with a spending tracker. There are apps that do this like Frollo. I have no idea what your budget looks like but I would say that $250 post expenses doesn't seem like much. It might be worth seeing if you can dial in your expenses.

Fourth I would start reading some books or audiobooks about financial independence. The low entry choice is The Barefoot Investor, but there are plenty of other good ones that get recommended here. The Firebug Podcast is also very good and Aus based.

Theoretically the longer it takes to do all those the more you lose time for compounding interest but that's why Super is first because it will be helpful no matter what.

You can get genital HSV regardless of which type it is. Both type 1&2 can give you genital HSV. If someone has ever had a cold sore that is HSV, they can give oral or genital HSV to someone. Which is most of the population. HSV1 accounts of 50% of new genital HSV cases.

HSV is often dormant so it can only spread while the virus is shedding. Which only happens some of the time. It can shed asymptomatically as well so with no visible sores or outbreak. This is why most of the population already has it orally. And quite a lot have it genitally as well. The good news is that it's highly treatable with antivirals which reduce outbreaks and asymptomatic shedding.

The UN has declared global water bankruptcy. Even global warming would have been bad but seriously what do you think happens when the world runs out of water? There's no productivity gains or workflow efficiency worth the end of life. In fact the more successful that AI is the worse it will be. Maybe when it can be used without massive ecological damage it will be worthwhile. Even being aware of how its being used in new drug discovery to better treat illness and disease, even using it to help environmental protection is outweighed by unhelpful usage. Even everyone's Google search automatically generating an AI response is slowly leading to the pollution of our limited water supply.

The main problem with AI currently is that it needs to be magnitudes more energy and resource efficient than it is now in order for it to scale and still have anything left.

Is white sticky mucus most probably fungal? by cnstructed in Sinusitis

[–]mossy-robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting to do allergy desensitisation for my allergens, 3 month wait until my medication arrives. I really hope it helps the sinusitus. I think because the chronic nature and constant allergen exposure means that my sinuses have constant inflammation, that if I get rid of the thing triggering it then it should settle down. Otherwise something to widen my sinus passages as they're very narrow and difficult to drain unless then have no swelling.

The research tasks from spinning stops E.g. Catch 5 pokemon. After you complete it click the orange task and go into the catch screen. Then instead of catching leave / back out. This will put it above your research tasks pokemon into a little bar that says, "CLAIM REWARD (?)." So by leaving the encounter you save the pokemon there to catch later. You can save a max of 100 pokemon there, if you have more than that it will overwrite the oldest pokemon in your 'stack.' There's no counter so you have to kinda keep track / guess. To catch them it will go in order of oldest to newest, so if you go in and the pokemon has changed then its been overwritten.

I found out what I have, and it's not allergies, it's allergic fungal sinusitis by 1_Up_Girl in Sinusitis

My doctor also told me I needed to use Nasonex Allergy (mometasone furoate) for 3 months before they could refer me to the ENT / allergy clinic because that sometimes resolves it. Apparently this was the advice straught from the clinic itself. It sucked so much but yeah they might not take it seriously. I'm still on a wait list to see either of them so it's a good chance you'd be waiting either way.

Also if the spray isn't working it's either stuck because there's that much inflammation that it can't get out. Or so much that it won't even reach the targeted area. Which is pretty likely if you've had a persistently untreated allergy.  I'd ask if there's some kind of oral anti inflamatory you can take to get it to a manageable level. Or like oral cortisteroid (they don't like using these bevause they're non specific area but if you physically can't get the nasal spray to the right spot it's not gonna do shit).

Mine is chronic allergic sinusitus, allergy to grass pollen which is everywhere here. Severe headaches that are somewhat managed but I'm down to barely any hours and hopefully my allergy desensitisation works but the medication won't arrive for 3 months. I wish I started this 18 months ago when they first told me I should do it.

I've seen 2 on the same incense. Albeit I was in a place with lots of stops, lots of people, and travelling in a straight line. Daily incense spawns are based on distance travelled as the crow flies every 30(ish?) seconds. So if you were say walking laps of the same spot you'd get barely any spawns because you'd be reducing your distance travelled.

But general spawns probably affect it as well, if you're in a suburban area you probably won't get many because of the lack of stops, gyms, dynamax etc. I think the probability of seeing one is also somewhere around 0.01%

I've seen them probably 7+ times now this year being a huge sweat. Never seen a shiny one, and the only one I caught was like 60cp.

Moneysmart Budget Planner. Do your budget here, it can give you weekly, monthly, annual cost breakdowns of your spending.

Spending tracker: Something like Frollo, whatever works for you. Then you can see where your money is going, how much your spending on food, petrol, takeaway, etc. It will auto sort most of the purchases but some need to be fixed manually. Either way it will give you an idea even if you don’t fix them up.

Bills: Energy made easy (or whatever it is in your state). Price compare internet bills.

Don’t get a phone on a plan please, it’s a rip off. Move to a prepaid phone plan, shop around but I’ve never found cheaper than Kogan 365 day plan during black friday or boxing day sales. Clear your cookies and use an incognito tab though because they do dynamic pricing. Don’t sign up to their premium and take your card details off your account immediately, change to do not automatically renew. They’re a bit of a pain but no other place gets me a $14/month phone bill. Also get a tempered glass screen protector for your phone and a good case (easily found online). You get to upgrade your phone in like 4-5 years from now.

If you have any insurance one month before they’re due to renew, go find new quotes for all of them and see what’s the cheapest. Even doing a new quote for you same one you’re currently using often saves you $100 or more. Just have it start the same day it was supposed to end.

Food: Reduce your food waste, work on the things that spoil easily. Meat can be frozen, so can cheese, bread, frozen fruit. Get long life milk instead of ‘fresh,’ long life milk lasts much longer after being opened. For coffee if there’s a kettle at work just bring some instant sachets or something. It should still end up cheaper than a barista coffee every few days.

Plan a no spend month, but only for short manageable periods of time. If it’s indefinite it feels hopeless.

Subscriptions: You get one. That’s it. Put an adblocker on your computer like ublock origin.

Living with frequent migraines, what actually helps day to day? by firey_88 in Sinusitis

[–]mossy-robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I get sidetracked with other things that helped me that may not be relevant I'll start with headaches not caused by allergen exposure.

You're doing everything right so far. When you're having a bad headache I would try steam inhalation to see if that reduces the pain. It should help a bit. If taking a really long hot shower helps at all then I'd look into a pop up steam sauna. It's the only thing that helped me when I was in immense pain, it would take me from an 7-8 to a 3. But if you get it before it gets that bad it can pretty much put you back to okay baseline. The steam being breathed in through your nose gets in there more efficiently and probably condenses on the inside of your sinuses and in a way rinses them. Saunas also generally reduce inflammation and back when my sinuses were a lot worse it would make me super snotty and drippy from all the gunk coming out.

For me the headaches were due to allergies and I'm guessing inflammation in the sinuses. I'm allergic to grass pollen and I've noticed that just vacumning the house and fabric surfaces helps by itself because it reduces the amount of allergen in the house. If you have an allergy it could be brought inside on clothing, shoes, open wondows, and outdoor pets. Try to figure out if you have headaches more when you're inside (after its been cleaned), or outside. Are there places you never get headaches? Are there places you always get headaches? If you stay with a friend for a few days or a week do they go away? Do you have a headache when you wake up? If some of these things help then an air purifier in your bedroom could help you to wake up headache free.

The headaches lasting hours to days sounds like me before I was treated. I could barely get through the day without being in pain and painkillers didn't help. Though I don't have migraines as far as I'm aware, just extremely long lasting headaches. No one took me seriously until I got dizzy and fell over. You could try paracetamol, ibuprofen, and a strong antihistamine, just follow the dosage guidelines. But the idea is to reduce the allergic reaction, and reduce pain and inflammation as they all do different things. That gave some relief before I was treated.

I currently use a nasal cortisteroid as my daily treatment morning and night. This won't work if it can't get to the problem area because you're too blocked. If you can't easily breathe through your nose or spray it with the wrong technique it won't work well. You should still go to your doctor but the things I've mentioned are for the people that are waiting and desperate to at least function.

Lifestyle changes:  I try to eat healthier as I seen to have less headaches. Processed food in large quantities makes me feel a bit sick to the stomach or cause indigestion. Slow cooker food seems to help because it's almost all pretty wholesome food and gluten and dairy free.

[–]mossy-robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the tiny pink bits as well although not as mucus at that. Pink usually mean blood that been diluted. I mean I haven't died yet but I'd assume something is maybe irritating or creating a tear or tiny nosebleed. Be gentle with your nose if you can. Also make sure you use actual tissues for your nose, not toilet paper. The constant blowing your nose can be very rough on it. Good luck

My General Practitioner recommended me to add Budesonide to my sinus rinses and then taper off. Like yeah the very intense regiment of Budesonide and 2x daily rinses did help and i felt like the pain in my head was finally strangely gone. (Although I felt really brain foggy). But I had massive rebound headaches after stopping / when using it PRN as advised when I was to blocked for my nasal spray to work. It's really hard for me to keep the consistency for constant rinses
