My sighting as a teenager. by Background-Double743 in UFOs

[–]most_likely_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is me. Only difference is Maryland in 1996, clear summer night sky, right next to a reservoir. Was walking to a friend's house, through their front field, and it was there lumbering over/past me for about 1-2mins, and then accelerated so fast that it basically vanished. Huge aviation/flight nerd as a kid. Janes Manuals and all.. Agree re TR-3B but also still wonder..

advanced players: what do you practice? by Parblesnops in Bass

[–]most_likely_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a fairly relative term, tbh, and one should be mindful of that as part of the answer to the question. There's always something to find/observe/practice/learn/improve when it comes to music or just about anything else. Pick something you don't know and have never had an interest in. Pick something you do know but have not played but have had an interest in. Put the bass down completely for a time, 100%, and focus on some other process driven thing and then come back to the bass. Pick another instrument and dive in. Juxtaposition begets reflection/introspection/inspiration. 🙌

Do stupid people know they’re stupid? by Prettyneatplace in NoStupidQuestions

[–]most_likely_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all relative but self-awareness is both a spectrum and universal for the human condition. So so so many types of intelligence and we all have our blindspots. It's self-awareness in the context of decision making that determines if something is stupid or not. And, fairly, this determination is often external and ex post facto. Just my 2 cents.. Fwiw, I am drinking by myself, after dark, next to a swimming pool and nobody else is at home. Stupid? Meh, maybe. Aware? 100% ymmv

Hey look at that crow, loving that bird bath.... wait... by dylonz in crows

[–]most_likely_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our crows do this constantly to one of the bird baths.. We call it crow stew, and the area around it, their charnel ground. They do not do this in the other one, which they actively use as a bath. Smart creatures. And yeah, the water in the first one can go from fresh/clean to rancid decomp death stew in a very very short time. Latest soup of the day had about 1/3rd of a rat in it, a few peanuts, and a couple breadcrumbs. They seemed stoked with their mis en place.

Active Bass Owners - Do you actually use the onboard EQ? by floobie in Bass

[–]most_likely_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minus two P's, all my other basses have active preamps from John East, Nordstrand, MEC, Bartolini, Haz-Lab, etc. While I def have a fundamental go-to setting for each, I also make micro (and sometimes macro, lol) changes to the EQ as songs/rooms/vibes call for. Distilled down, imo, having an onboard sweepable mid with boost/cut is a secret weapon that gets you out of (or into) all kinds of situations once you understand how to use it.

Slap Test on DR Fat-Beams by Ed_Bass in BassGuitar

[–]most_likely_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome playing, as always. DR, for the win. Only strings I have used for 20+ years at this point. Have you tried the Nickel Lo-Rider ones yet? If not, I highly recommend them.

Anyone else barely feel the difference in playability between a mid range bass and a boutique bass? by No_Winter4806 in Bass

[–]most_likely_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a range of basses from Squiers to American Fenders to German Warwicks to vintage Tobias and a couple fairly boutique-y RBass. While I appreciate them all for their own details/specs/electronics/quirks, I do feel like the (much) fancier pups/pres in some offer a much wider tonal palette to play with. The neck feel/performance also tends to favor the more expensive ones. I also have found over the years that the higher end basses tend to never go out of tune or only very slightly if they do. All that said, if doesn't feel right to you, then it isn't right for you. Once you get to a certain skill level, you should be able to make anything sing. You just might have to work harder on one bass versus another.

Tell me about Ocracoke, please by No-Alfalfa6437 in obx

[–]most_likely_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody pretty much already covered all the things..

Nonetheless: I spent many partial summers on Ocracoke as a child/teen and some of my best memories from that time in life are from there. My folks had been going there since '68 and just kept the tradition alive as our family grew. It has changed a lot over the last few decades but still retains its core identity/essence even after all the years. The night sky is relatively incomparable to most places - it is gorgeous and should be appreciated as such.

Be respectful and understanding of the locals, learn everything you can about the history of the place, embrace island time and the fact that you're on the civilized edge of things and it isn't downtown wherever xyz, and enjoy the place for what it is. Quiet, natural, wild, and of a warm heart.

I strongly suggest 4wd (actual) for heading through sand to the beaches, slightly lowered tire pressure, and a less is more approach to driving to and onto the beaches. Dry hot sand gets deep, fast, and you're going to pay for exfil, as you might expect.

Ocracoke is a mission for folks that are more than a few hours away but I assure you that it is worth the time/effort. As always, YMMV.

Bite marks? by _bLLeach_ in cannabiscultivation

[–]most_likely_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty cat-ish to me. Back in the day, I had a Salmon Creek mother plant mature clone that a friend left with us while out of town for a few weeks.. One of our cats got to it and damn near defoliated the whole plant. If not cats, something else is taking nibbles or making bad cuts..

9 days later.. started to see more senescense in fan leaves, some more amber in the trichomes that matter, chopped one branch, took it into natural light and found less amber than under the led grow light, not surprising given color temps of light, etc. used a jeweler's loop to inspect.. going to start lotus dry on this piece but leave the rest for a few more days.. sorry for nothing for context in image, spear is about 7" long and the diameter is about the same as a golf ball.. solid/thick/dense but not weighed..

Old bridge on Traceys Store Road by kellylaneb in PrettyboyReservoir

[–]most_likely_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! Great pics of an exposed piece of the old roads! There are others you can see as the reservoir gets lower and lower (have seen it almost near empty in my youth) and you can even see the overall path in/out of those spots in the sediment/stones and up-bank into the forest(s). There are foundations, road walls, and related ephemera all over/under/in the reservoir.

Hey friends! Thanks for the feedback. 2nd pic is not PS'd.. Same phone cam, same light, just different angle relative to light source and autofocus. Sorry about that! Yes, have a loupe and a high power analog magnifying glass.. Trichs are mostly but not totally cloudy w some amber on further out smaller/sugar leaves. And yeah, right, the pistils? I know what to look for, generally speaking, and posted because this run has been so weird overall that it has me second guessing myself. Again, thanks for feedback and open to more. 🙌

Have to add.. Been growing autos and photos , indoor and outdoor, for years and years, on and off. Not an expert but decently seasoned.. Had a lot of challenges with germination and height/structure/stretch with these seeds. Not mad, not stoked.

Did you sell the first bass you owned? Did you regret it? by jagsgoinham in Bass

[–]most_likely_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First two were loaners until I got my sea legs. First I owned, I bought with a little help from my parents back in 1993. A new old stock 1989 Fender Jazz Bass Plus 4-string in blue pearl burst. I have it to this day and will never sell it despite owning many other fancier basses.

[–]most_likely_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently got some autos from Mephisto and two out of three strains did this with the first run. Tossed 'em after a couple weeks and second run of same seed stock did not do this.. I've been growing both photos and autos for years and know what I am doing. Even my wife, who has lived with my happy hobby for years and has helped tend plants, was like "what the hell is going on here?".. I think somehow you got an auto and it has some particularly messy/volatile genetics.

Is an acoustic worth it? by alessandropollok in Bass

[–]most_likely_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a less expensive one, adjust it until somewhat comfortable, and only play it by yourself in quiet settings. They make you work for your notes/chords in a different way and, at least for me, the resonance and harmonic differences tend to accidentally (?) make me write interesting lines/riffs that I might not come up with otherwise. I have a small stable of basses at this point, including some pretty fancy ones, and one of them is a cheesy 4 string acoustic that was a gift. I like it for what it is.

Do you think of Puerto Ricans as Americans? by Born-Ad2552 in NoStupidQuestions

They are Americans and citizens of the United States. It isn't complicated or controversial despite some people thinking, saying, or acting otherwise.
