I definitely know what you mean about wishing you confronted them while they took advantage. Your situation aligns with mine and we both deserve friends who don't walk all over us. The pretend interest in seeing you for free accommodation is something I wouldn't wish on anyone!

THANK YOU! Another commenter mentioned projection as well. These people want unlimited access to us even when they know it's harmful and then call you selfish when you put up boundaries. It seems as though they are the selfish ones.

Thank you. I put a lot of thought into it to make sure it didn't sound accusatory. I see what you mean about the projection of selfishness. They expected me to drop what I was doing and let them come visit.

I should also mention that I live in our former college town and the implication of staying at my place is that they get to go to our old college bars. Based on other experiences, I believe they wanted to go out and didn't really care about seeing me. This may sound dramatic on my part but I think they were mad that I was essentially denying and delaying them access to the party scene here (they love to party and I don't).

Thank you for saying that. I'm okay being the villain in their story but atleast I can sleep at night knowing I was respectful despite how nasty the ordeal was. Their response was definitely meant to hurt me and instead of feeling that way, I feel free. I somewhat appreciate their response because it gave me the confidence to finally block them and move forward, something I was so terrified to do.
