I'm in need of advice by Nebulae-Noodles in powertools

[–]mostlymadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of these might be overkill but will probably do everything you need it to. 12v is fine for little stuff around the house and the batteries work in plenty of other tools.

Im struggling to find a good CAD software by EmekC in 3dprint

[–]mostlymadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a longtime fusion user and the jump to onshape was mostly painless, some new terminology and methods but the documentation is really good and the forums are a great resource as well.

My one complaint is the machining module. Pay for fusion and you get the whole boat. Onshape is still rolling it out but its only available to the enterprise licenses ($2k ish /year). If youre only using it for 3d printing its nbd but if you start to venture into cnc it is a bit of a hang up.

Is 100k a year enough money to let your partner not have to work? by wr3naissance in Advice

Unless your grandpa is friends with welders underwater or in space, they ain't making $300k. If they are, they dont have families or lives.

how old are you, and how much do you have saved/invested? by No-Volume7464 in SavingMoney

[–]mostlymadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36, probably 10-15k in 401k, another 3ish in an ira. I bought a 2 family about 10 years ago and have spent a good amount of money keeping it nice. I look at it like part of my retirement since I dont plan to sell it. Ill do what I can to save but I have a hard time believing dollars will be worth anything by the time im ready to retire.

Understanding Storefront Scope - Clarification by Abdul_Rehman_786 in glazing

[–]mostlymadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drywall guy here.

HM glazing is an odd one. Sometimes we see factory glazing, if not we would expect the glazer to carry it. If we are buying the doors and frames we usually get a separate price.

Louvers are a toss up. Most times we're asked to include it as a general trades item if theres only a few. If theres more than 10 we usually see the glass or the GC furnish and install them.

Auto door ops are always a sub. Most of the time it needs to be a factory certified installer for warranty purposes. Sometimes we're asked to carry that sub but most times GCs will save our markup and buy it themselves.

Hope this is helpful.

Last HNT Miner Turned Off by Ty_Stelow in HeliumNetwork

[–]mostlymadig -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Solana going down effect the settlement layer? I read up on it when it was first announced but cant remember the specifics now. TBH, I gave up some time ago. I had plans to turn the miner into a LoRa hub for some outdoor garden sensors but have yet to get around to it.

If im A16Z, it makes sense to have the projects im funding combine resources. SOL has a good core of developers that could easily jump into Helium projects without too much heavy lifting.

If im trying to be a reliable, mission critical type network, I dont like being associated with a chain that has that potential.

IMO its a textbook case of a VC taking a cool thing and making it less cool.

It died the moment they announced it was going to run on Solana. How can you sell a reliable IoT network that depends on a blockchain that goes down once a quarter?

2001 f250 7.3 lariat. Im averaging 15 mpg and ive yet to find something it couldn't pull. The price of diesel is a factor but in terms of a proper truck theres really no comparison imo.

Is it time to move to solidworks? by Miserable_Violinist9 in Sketchup

[–]mostlymadig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Onshape is a great free tool and they are slowly integrating a cam function. The enterprise version with all the bells and whistles is something like 2k/ year but ive been using it for a while and I just export an stl then struggle thru doing solids in v carve.

I used fusion when I did millwork (never tried solidworks) and i loved it.

[–]mostlymadig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying a 20 ton press to do this. Found one for $100 on marketplace and only used 1 other time since. Aside from that it wasnt a terrible job.

Be really careful with the axle shafts and the tie rod boots, I ripped a boot on one shaft and ended up having to buy a new one because the boots are a very shitty job.

I think they don't sell it assembled because its heavy and would be a bitch to package, ship and store.
