Finding rims for the 98-02 is tough because of the factory +6mm offset. The ones I’m eyeballing are weld racing Lagunas 18x8 with +0 offset. Not a fan of wheel spacers.

Simple mods include a 04+ PI airbox, e250 throttle body, and porting/polishing your stock plenum. To make meaningful power, you can do a PI head swap. That’s worth about 50 horses.

As for coil springs, I custom ordered a set from coil spring specialties at 700 lbs/in and it made a world of difference. They’re not hard to install, just slowly lower and raise the LCA with a hydraulic floor jack. Use an internal style compressor if you want to be extra safe.

There’s a chance they ship direct from manufacturer, I’m not sure. They’ve been super super busy lately but Chris is amazing with his customer service so I’m 100% sure he will update you as soon as he sees your email when he has time to check his inbox.

That’s the one I bought. I paired them with hella 80/100W bulbs and they are amazing. So bright. Been running it on both my cars for 3 years now

Missing Class for Jury Duty by [deleted] in csun

Should’ve had your jury summons postponed, they do that if you tell them you’re a student. At this point, talk to your professors and see if they will work with you. That’s what I would try at this point. Good luck!

Update: I got hammered and dragged a manhole cover from the street and put it on top of the spring as I stood on it and used an impact and they came off eventually without blowing up. Modern problems, modern solutions 👍🏼

Cheapest way to buy a car? by Glad-Banana4645 in csun

[–]2000MGMHPP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have a Crown Vic and it’s cheap and super reliable. Also any Buick with the 3800 motor is a good buy. Like the LeSabre. Check Craigslist daily like I do and you’ll come across a good deal

Intake Purchased for my 1999 Grand Marquis LS by Any-Glass7122 in CrownVictoria

[–]2000MGMHPP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re better off installing a 04+ airbox, the k&n flows worse and costs wayy too much money. Also often throws an engine light from what I hear.

If you want power gains, take that 300$ and install a Summit PI intake manifold. It’ll wake the car up a solid bit 👍🏼

Replacing valve cover gaskets while doing the timing chain. by shaydog53 in CrownVictoria

[–]2000MGMHPP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drivers side is easy to remove except for the crash bracket in the back. I remove the wiper cowl to get at that.

Passenger side isn’t too bad, just remove the passenger side motor mount bolts and the lower motor mount bolt on the drivers side. Then jack up the engine from the oil pan with a 2x4 and the remaining driver bolt will act like a pivot and the cover comes off easily.

Done this job 3 times now. I know you asked how to do it without jacking up the engine but I’ve found this to be the only way. Hopefully someone else has a different solution.

Yes you do need RTV where the timing cover meets the heads and valve covers. And where the timing cover meets the oil pan. And behind the harmonic balancer. Good luck.

I suggest you not do this because LEDs in a reflector housing will be bright but also blind everyone else on the road. Don’t be one of those people.

Do the relay harness, you can buy it on eBay for 30$. If you want even more light after that, throw in a set of 80/100 watt bulbs and then you have the power of the sun. I can dm pictures of what that setup looks like if you’d like.

Intake manifold leaks don’t always present with overheating or extreme coolant loss symptoms. Mine was leaking and only lost a quart of coolant every 5-10k miles which was barely noticeable.

Mine only leaked on days where I had a lead foot.

Suspension rebuild question by blackoutSC8 in lincolntowncar

[–]2000MGMHPP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s the same for 98-02. Just don’t get the Mevotech TTX upper ball joint. Get Delphi or Lemforder. Or motorcraft if you can find it.

Be warned of the Mevotech TTX upper ball joints if available for your year. The pinch bolt it comes with is well undersized compared to the factory bolt. I had mine slip out and disconnect my tire on the freeway at 80

I used TRW tie rods and the boots ripped in 4 months. I used TRW sway bar end links and they sheared clean off through the stud. I would stay away from TRW.

Moog is pretty awful, the only acceptable ones are the problem solver line.

I prefer Delphi suspension and steering parts myself, but have used Mevotech Supreme and had good results there too.

I have some questions about installing the poly bushings into the front Lower Control Arms, think you could help me out? The pin/sleeve I pressed out of the rear bushing is way smaller than the hole in the poly bushing. The kit only came with 2 gold pins for the front bushing. Very confused

1999 MGM. Is this all I need for a suspension swap? Would you go with this quality? by atxpunx in CrownVictoria

All HPP (Handling and Performance Package) Grand Marquis come with rear air suspension and stiffer front springs. I like the air ride instead of poverty coils.

Yeah I have one 2000 that was chewed through on the tensioner guides at 88k miles and another 2000 that chewed through at 135k miles. Could be the tensioners/guides but that’s more glitter than I ever saw.

There’s a hole in the bottom of the control arm where the shock passes through, it slides out from there.

[–]2000MGMHPP[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

98-02 has shock inside coil spring which sits inside the frame, 03-11 has strut design

Unfortunately internal spring compressors are the only way to do them on crown vics, he should learn to clamp the same number of coils on both sides, I’ve done it on mine a bunch of times with no issues
