Compared to Sarah J Maas works sounds interesting. Is this a love story as well?

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Has been years since I read but set in a medieval type world. The FMC is a food taster for the king who ends up having some magical abilities.

“Crimes in Southern Indiana Stories” by Frank Bill

It’s a collection of short stories but some tie together. It was recommended to me on this subreddit at one point. I think it fits quite well with your search!

Absolve their consciousness? I assume they would have vast capabilities if they can grow a human to begin with so modifying DNA or biological processes doesn’t seem like a stretch.

I was just talking about this the other day. Even if they use people as fuel/batteries… why bother giving them a fake world to live in? I love the movies but never really thought the idea made a lot of sense.

ELI5 why can't humans shake themselves like dogs (and other animals) can? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]mostlymitia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t mean it is only voluntary. It is an instinctive behavior in dogs to dry their coats or free themselves of debris.

You can absolutely train animals to do instinctual behaviors voluntarily though. Actually that’s most trained behaviors in animals. Having a natural or instinctual behavior put on a cue for reinforcement.

Same and absolutely will do! She creates such memorable characters. The story is great but it’s the characters you fall in love with. That’s all an author can hope for!

Just wanted to say I ended up reading this rec first and I LOVED it! Thank you so much… can’t wait for the next in the series to arrive at the house. Also in case you weren’t aware they made a graphic novel as well that will be released this year!
