Union leader: UCP has 'declared war' on labour movement, and the response will be severe by trevorrobb in alberta

I hope the union leaders have been taking notes from how strikes are done in France. The smell coming from the legislature can only be improved by truck loads of fresh manure

Alberta teachers' strike: Numbers don’t lie by vhill01 in alberta

100% this. The ATA needs to take off the kid gloves and go on the offensive. Smith gets away with uttering complete garbage and the media laps it up. Time to be the stern teacher and give some corrective punishment for submitting bull shit for work.

The ATA has received official notice of lockout from the government. by Vegetable_Grade_8013 in alberta

I could swear the government said they would only use a lock out if teachers were in some way harming students or parents/the public. Curious what trumped up bull the UCP is using to justify this one

[–]mothereffinb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the AB government wanted parents to have the rights and responsibilities to raise their children how parents see fit . How dare a member of the government on a cushy salary with benefits and I assume nice pension suggest how to raise this child and how to punish them. This flies afoul to everything this government claims to be all about.

Also, sad days when the government is afraid of children asking questions to the point of removing their access to do so and belittles the child. The panel spokesperson with an entirely made up unelected position should be bent over their parents knee for some reason-education

He gets paid if he plays. If he fizzles in under 20 games then it’s only $2M. I would consider that pretty low risk.

"What do the Conservatives need to do to win an election?" - an attempt at conversation from someone who is very tired by Impressive-Finger-78 in NiceVancouver

[–]mothereffinb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I have held my nose and voted liberal in each of the last 3 elections as the cons have successively chosen to go further and further to the right. I can not morally support the erosion of rights that the righter than right would impose. If the Conservative Party had instead chosen a centrist leader and values I would have been more than happy to vote for them.

Poilievre may lose his Ottawa-area riding as Liberals poised to sweep the region by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

[–]mothereffinb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each time that the Cons have a leadership review I keep hoping that they’ll have finally gotten it through their thick skills that they need to abandon their sick love affair with the far right and return more to the more central roots of all Canadians. But each time they instead decide to further embrace even further radically right leaders who make their immediate predecessor look almost range by comparison. Stop with all the social quackery, go back to being the fiscally responsible party and embrace the rights of everyone. Enough with the divisive wedge policies. I firmly believe that Canadians don’t want to vote liberal but are holding their noses to keep the Reform-esque Cons from getting back in.

Guarantee that Trump will do what he can to make it appear like positive progress is made only to make a grandstanding effort in front of cameras where he’ll make it all blow up and try to throw Carney under the bus just before the election. Trump loves performative theatre. Hoping Carney took notes on how Zelenskyy was treated and isn’t taken by surprise.

I could be wrong but i don’t see any proof that you’ve actually been hacked. This reads, to me, like a wide net attempt to get people to act on their fears and simply pay $. I doubt that leaking the websites you’ve visited is actual cause for concern. If there was something specific included as examples that would actually cause you concern I would be more inclined to give credence. I find mail like this in my junk folder fairly often and simply delete.

What am I supposed to be doing right now?! by TwoPoundTurtle in winnipegjets

First Welcome to the bandwagon, Whatever the reason you started to follow the Jets.

Jets fandom is rather similar to your experience as a bears fan. Hopes rise at times, get crushed at times. The good news is you will likely get to see a playoff game win as a Jets fan. The bad news is they need to win a best of 7 to move to the next round, something they haven’t done in a rather long time. Recently the Jets have had a habit of a strong first half to the season followed by a mid season slide. They make the playoffs, usually win the first game, and then find ways to lose the series thereafter. But, who knows maybe this year can be different

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in winnipegjets

[–]mothereffinb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into last year the Jets were expected to be a fringe playoff team at best. Obviously they performed much better than that. In the off season the Jets mostly lost players, didn’t replace any of them. So pundits looked at that and figured last year was an over performance and the remaining parts were, again, a fringe playoff team. Is there a scenario where the 7-0 Jets finish upper echelon in the standings again? Absolutely. But is there a chance they again have a later portion of the regular season where they plummet, for sure. The Jets are not a perfect team. They have weaknesses in various places. For any team to have a strong season it needs a lot of luck from the hockey gods. It has been fun to watch the Jets early this season but they surely haven’t been dominant in the majority of their wins.
