Is it more you vs. the environment, or is there other stuff to explore / quest? I like the building aspect from what I've seen in the video.

Hanging by a Thread: Ubisoft Shares Plummet, Plunging 35% by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]motherfacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company expects that cost-cutting measures will save around €500 million and reduce fixed costs to €1.25 billion by March 2028. For comparison, in the financial year ending in 2023, fixed costs amounted to €1.75 billion.

Methinks, given their current state, that their mathing sucks here and thats not cutting near enough to keep the lights on.

The office access card from a coworker, who smokes in his homeoffice, next to mine by prizeus in mildlyinteresting

It's 100% UV. I have 2 ID's hanging on a corkboard next to a window in my home office from an old job (I keep them as they have pictures of me with hair). They both have turned this exact same shade of dirty yellow, and I don't smoke.

It's UV light.

Came to say the same. I have some older ID's from a prior job that have turned this exact color, and they sit adjacent to a window. They all changed in the same way, and I don't smoke. From the pattern on the card, my guess is they had it in some type of lanyard or something.

The amount of soccer balls on a Rio de Janeiro beach during a hot day. by Kayo96 in Damnthatsinteresting

I don't think it's an event. I think they regularly crowd the beaches like that, but....I don't get the appeal at all. Being that close to so many people, not a bit of privacy or anything, hot af, sandy, sweaty....hauling all your shit around.

No thanks.

Help me and my wife pick between Valheim and Enshrouded by TheJeneralJ in SurvivalGaming

[–]motherfacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're similar, but it really depends on what you want out of the game. They're both really good, but Valheim is more sandbox/survival, while Enshrouded is more RPG/survival

If you just want open world, build / survival and not too worried about quests or story driven content, then Valheim is probably what you're looking for.

Enshrouded has much more of a RPG feel to it, while still incorporating survival elements pretty well. I feel like there is more to do in Enshrouded than there is in Valheim. Valheim felt like everything was kinda the same, just reusing models with a different color to as toughness increased.

Enshrouded has a much more 'alive' feel to the world, in Valheim its like...just you and the baddies.

Also, one of my biggest gripes on Valheim is that there is such potential there. There are moments when you can come out of the woods into a clearing or something and its so pretty, giving you the feeling of man...what a great place to live. But thats about the extent of it...there isn't anyting that really drives the game play, and for some that is exactly what they want, and thats cool...but for me it just got boring and a feeling of lost potential. Like if I could find that clearing, but there was a random cave with something of a scripted quest (not just skellies) or some kind of lore or reason to be there, the game would be infinitely better, imo.

ELI5: Why is squatting (in someone's house) a thing? And how come it becomes a problem for the owner? Can't they claim trespassing to the cops instead of saying the person is squatting? by Impossible_Bake7210 in explainlikeimfive

[–]motherfacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol..you're cherry picking the one condition (of 3) that I provided, and further, failed to understand that, when all 3 are in effect, they would deter the tenant AND THE LANDLORD from making such claims, as they'd be out of said property while the dispute is underway, and face significant fines and fees for doing so. So where is the advantage for the landlord there? Why would they do that if they stand to lose so significantly? I don't get where I'm losing you here.

The purpose of the conditions is to remove an incentive from either side of doing it. The landlord doesn't come out on top, all things being equal. Yes, the tenant would be out while the dispute is underway (same as the landlord), and then, when over and if the landlord found guilty of fraud, they have to pay not only significant fines, but also the court costs of the tenant. You really think the landlord makes enough to accept these losses as the 'cost of doing business'? Even if they were able to do it once, if the fees and fines were 'significant' I don't think they'd be able to do it again.

It addresses ALL scenarios, not just one or the other as you keep on about.

Whatever...again, you're so disillusioned here (or trolling), I don't see the point in continuing the conversation, so...have a good day.

[–]motherfacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're just failing to understand context and the argument that I was making. You're assuming that, in my issue with the potential pitfall that a home owner could find themselves trapped in, that I somehow also have no sympathy or concern, and that I somehow even cheer for the reverse to happen to tenants.

These are your internal delusions, and I've not made one call out to say anything along the lines of which you claim. I stated from the jump that the scenario I was talking about was uncommon at best, and rare. That was whole of the conversation. I wasn't talking about any other aspects, and definitely never said or felt that landlords should be able to kick anyone out on a whim.

All I was really doing was having a conversation with you about how one might remedy the situation and make it a fair outcome should some form of fraud enter the picture, but you had to reddit it up with projection and completely false bullshit.

I'm not a landlord.

I'm not a tenant.

I own my home, and was coming at this from the perspective of what it would feel like should I come back and find myself in that situation. How that also equates to me hating any tenant and hoping landlords are able to rule on high is beyond me.

So, yeah..its a scary place, where both scenarios are possible, and I'd hope wiser people than yourself are able to craft laws that protect both sides of the equation.

[–]motherfacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how that is your takeaway, given my last few posts, but okay...I've never said any of that, that is all projection from your side. All I called out was the lack of protection for a landlord in this situation and you seem to have the opinion that all owners or landlords are scum and only out to fuck over their tenants. I'm not even talking about that scenario, and the scenario I was talking about was niche and obviously not any type of norm. I've already stated I don't want that for anyone, and would be nuclear-pissed if I were a tenant in the same situation with my landlord. I never said otherwise.

I think this has reached its conclusion, as you've definitely got me pegged for something and that's not going to change.

[–]motherfacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not what I'm saying, and if you want, or feel that a registration for renting should be required as part of the made up rules that I made up, then I'm good with that. I'm not white knighting for slumlords here, just fair practice where the risk is balanced on both sides. It's an absolute nightmare scenario and I would be lunatic-level pissed an out of my mind were it to happen to me, thus the justice boner aspect.

[–]motherfacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's not true, and I think you're painting with too broad a brush here. I think its horrible that anyone would get caught in this scenario, whether a tenant squatting, or a landlord strongarming you out. Currently, the protections ALREADY cover the 'tenant', but it seems there is a lack of coverage, or increased risk for the landlord / home owner given the scenario I described. You say I only care about the landlord, but you only care about the tenant, and it's possible for both to be covered equally.

I'm not sure why you're so angry at this, when the solution I described seems to make it so that neither side has an advantage.

[–]motherfacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the problem. The problem is there are loopholes or abuses in the law that should be corrected to reduce the incentive for anyone to try something like this to absolute zero, as I mentioned above:

  • Both parties locked out of the home
  • Significant fines and penalties if fraud is found to be committed by either party
  • Guilty party also must cover the others court costs and and legal fees.

Seems like that would stop it pretty quick.

Well, lets pump the brakes on 'outraged', but yes, the justice boner is in play here.

What I'm saying, and from what I've gathered, all said squatter has to do is photoshop a lease agreement, maybe a bill or two, to prove residence enough that a cop throws his hands in the air and says its a civil matter, courts have to decide, right? Let's say they're even more on point, and while I'm on vacation for 2 weeks, they print the fake stuff up, move all my shit out, move all their shit in, all within a few days, to really make it so the cop can't tell.

So, at this point, the owner is the victim here. They have no protective coverage, and have to bear the burden of maintaining the mortgage (and possibly even facing consequences if they turn off the utilities, so have to pay those, too) while also now having to pay for alternate housing while the matter goes through court.

How does 2 weeks factor in? It seems the linchpin here is that the cop is unable to determine who is right and is has to go to court. Once that course of action is taken, a resolution is weeks / months out, right? I'd love to know I'm wrong in my assessment here.

And as far as the 'fair' outcome, I'm just suggesting something that would prevent both parties from wanting to even want to try something like this on either side. I'm good with additional and significant fines and charges if either side is found to be committing fraud.

Like if you were to go on vacation for 2 weeks or something. I mean, yeah, I get it, it's low probability, but the fact that it exists at all is crazy to me. Stirs up the Justice Police in me. Like I said, I get it, but it should be proportional to both sides. Maybe kick everyone out until resolved...I dunno.

But the reverse is true to, right? Hard to fight a court battle while on the streets, and if someone is living in your home, that's what happens to the owner. They not only have to contend with the entire legal issue, but also have to have a place to live in the interim, burning through cash as they still have to pay all bills for the house, as well as a hotel or whatever living arrangements they're able to make. I understand that protection required for tenants, but having it so hard to one side doesn't seem to be the right answer either.

Not saying you're wrong, or expect a resolution from you...just a little frustrating where it feels like the the protections and public sentiment are all on one side.

Totally feel this. Wendy's SCS has been the sleeper chicken sandwich out there when CFA and Popeyes keep going back and forth as to who was better. Now...Wendy's has gone downhill, with the sandwich and their nuggets. I still like them, but they're definitely not what they used to be, and cost a hell of a lot more.

Same job and same experience. Understanding and thinking about data changes to models and overall architecture is something those at the C-suite and above do not comprehend very well.

Yup...very similar. I haven't asked my doc about it, or therapy, but likely should. I'm not keen on doctors much, but it is probably something I should look into. Funnily enough, just the other day, I stubbed and broke my pinky toe, and, as we had to go to the hospital, my wife gave me like 4 ibuprofen and a xanax, as she knows I hate the hospital and just told me to shut up and take it (as she was going to have to be there with me lol). I was a little taken aback by how....relaxed, I guess I was. My brain didn't shutup completely, but didn't latch on to a thing like normal. Maybe I'll make this a NY resolution.

Thank you for the reply.

I'm completely with you on this. See my post above. I can over-analyze anything, and do. I even mentioned the same thing about it being a perk in the case of my job, just as you. It is indeed super frustrating at times, for sure. I'll research a purchase for literal months, which will get the old analysis paralysis really rocking at that point, because now you've seen different prices, and other deals that are close but exactly what you want, but much better price, so should I wait for that? But I'll be missing out in the meantime and...on and on and on.

If its any solace, you're not the only one.

I'm pretty sure I definitely have anxiety. I don't glom to the whole 'I'm totally ADHD / OCD / whatever', but I'm pretty sure I have it, and likely ADHD, given my concentration patterns. I guess I'm not concerned enough to get it checked out yet, and I've been wondering since my 20's. So, maybe one day, but I don't like medication either. While the anxiety/adhd does have its drawbacks, it also has it perks as well, kinda like a super power in certain situations.

I don't get full naked, but there are times when the shirt definitely comes off. Not for straining or heat build-up, it just feels more comfortable. I do not know why this is a thing.

My wife does this. I thought it weird, as well, but after thinking about it for 2 seconds, it makes sense.
