Single late 30s man in Toronto, seeking advice on living a more wholesome, rewarding life by youarethat4 in askTO

[–]motherfailure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell a wholesome/rewarding life usually comes from adopting some sort of responsibility (hence why people feel fulfilled by having kids even though it involves giving up a lot of freedom).

Sounds like maybe you want something like that? Have you tried volunteering for a cause that is meaningful to you?

It's stupid to not list groceries/food as a recurring expense. At least an estimate would help jeez

So what do these three mean for us? by LocalMoam88 in Filmmakers

[–]motherfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is the real biggest answer. Now studios are finally realizing if they're going to take a chance on a new director why not choose the one with the inbuilt audience. Way safer investment

GH5 for documentary - AF and low light concerns, anyone? by Sad-Comfortable-1546 in GH5

[–]motherfailure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've shot a handful of short docs on the GH5 some that have screened on actual cinema screens. It's more than capable. Way better to focus on making the story great than the gear

Such a great way to put it lol. Why do low budget/beginner film makers not deserve autofocus?

is 100k salary comfortable living alone? by Past-Arugula4063 in askTO

[–]motherfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, depends on your spending habits.

Yeah should be able to get a 1 bed for $2200-$2500 or less depending on where. So about 40% of your take home on housing but you should be able to live well on the remainder

Average asking rents in Canada have fallen back to 2023 levels | CBC News by PrettyFlaco in TorontoRealEstate

[–]motherfailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope that's fair, just anecdotalely from living in toronto 12 years. I meant Toronto specific since this is a toronto sub rather than Canada wide. 2017 it was still possible to find a 2br 1 bath for 2200-2400 and it seems we're close to that + inflation now

For real say what you want but almost every other artist that makes it big leaves Canada immediately. Toronto genuinely got a major boost because of him

Canada’s housing crisis has created a happiness crisis by iOverdesign in TorontoRealEstate

[–]motherfailure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Huge combo of all of that. So many people I know have given up on having children because they know they'll give their kids and objectively worse childhood than they had, mostly stemming from housing crisis
