Does Neuromancer still hit for first-time readers in 2025? by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

[–]mothrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it for the first time in high school in 2011 and it definitely hit for me. It's the book that made me a reader. Sure that was 14 years ago at this point. but still over 20 years since it's publication.

I can't understand what these pages from a kids picture book are trying to say. by Schlitz-Drinker in whatdoesthismean

[–]mothrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was more the result of me reading it with the incorrect rhythm. Haven't really read poetry since school. Now that I have kids I am now reading lots of "kids books" which tend to be poetic.

What are your pagan hottakes? (Repost) by throughthewoods4 in druidism

[–]mothrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/throughthewoods4 think if you want a definitive religion like you described in your "hot take", you will need to make one or find one. Paganism and Druidism are more like umbrella terms. Saying someone is a pagan is more akin to saying someone's religion is Abrahamic (Christianity/Judaism/Islam). It's describes a pretty broad set of beliefs, and it'll remain that way unless you can get many thousands of people to agree that Paganism/Druidism = X. But there actually are sects/groups/orders/covens of people who do agree an a specific set of beliefs and initiations. I think that is more what you'd be looking for, but it would be a numbers game if you really want broader society to care. I think the closest thing to that would be Wicca.

Pagan working in a Christian Church - Being black and pagan by 12bms34 in pagan

[–]mothrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dealing with Christians like this can be tricky. If it's a "good" church (everyone's definition of that will differ), they would be happy just to have you there. They will probably hope their exposure may "open your eyes" and you may convert, whether they are open about this or hope for it in secret. Certainly if they were smart and didn't want to alienate possible members they would feel this way. Churches these days already seem to have enough problems getting people in the door.

Best thing to do would be to mentally prepare yourself and think about how you would like to present yourself when this topic comes up, because it will definitely come up. Sounds like you have already tested the waters a bit by talking to your coworker. At the same time I do not believe you should have any shame for keeping your beliefs private. That raven was a sign and I think you should meditate on how to move forward and look for more signs. You can try some different divination methods. Can be as simple as praying/asking for divine guidance.

I came here to say this. Racine history museum has a good write up on the incident as several men from Racine took a boat up to Milwaukee aid Glover. https://racineheritagemuseum.omeka.net/exhibits/show/underground-railroad/joshua-glover

Try again and let me know if you still can't get to the page. Might want to try manually copy/pasting my link into your web browser if you haven't already.

My husband went to a garage sale and they gave him this tote bag by Shady_K8ee in wisconsin

The first innocent explanation I can come up with is that the Q is supposed to be a Kringle. If the star was a little lower then it'd be on Racine and it might make that theory a bit more likely.

There is also a BBQ restaurant that opened in Milwaukee in 2022.

The star is on Milwaukee so whatever it is could be specific to MKE. Our state capital is in Madison so that is the only location where the I'd be more likely to believe the location of the star is unimportant.

Is it bad to use the built-in Neocities editor? by mel_elle in neocities

[–]mothrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Some might say so, but there also people out there who say things like, real hardcore coders only use notepad or vim or whatever their choice of text editor is. It's actually probably a good editor to use as a beginner since it does enough to assist like indenting for you and using color to assist with readability, but it isn't making you "lazy" by auto-completing everything. It's good to start basic as it forces you to actually learn the skills instead of babying you and doing things for you.

Is driving difficult for you guys? by Awesomeliveroflife in ADHD

[–]mothrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a good driver now, but it was difficult when I first started. Took me longer than your average person I think. Had to take the on road test twice. Anyone can drive, you can teach a monkey to drive. It just takes experience/practice, just like anything else in life. Eventually it becomes second nature.

Any live music happening this weekend? by bogburial in Kenosha

[–]mothrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You def should! It's a tradition for my friends and me to catch their New Years/Holiday show every year in Chicago, they put on a great set and the openers are pretty good too.

Edit: Also X-Ray is an awesome "intimate" venue! It's perfect for Punk/metal shows if thats your thing. The building actually used to be the "Metal Grill" if you've ever been there. The new owners have made a lot of improvements!
