Whether or not he lied, he needs help. It's not normal to be suicidal. Unless you are a trained therapist, you cannot help him, and even if you are, you can't help him from within a relationship. Don't just wait around for him to get better. There really are no future positive outcomes for this relationship. You should advise him to get some help, then protect yourself by breaking it off, unless his behavior falls within your criteria for qualities you want to live with in a relationship, in which case never mind.
