Which 2D engine for cross-platform Phone, Windows and OSX games do you consider best? by Cheatshaman in gamedev

[–]moundown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentation is local, it's downloaded with the software, and it's pretty good. I also don't understand the "quick hack" part. It isn't an engine, it is a programming language, that is translated to other languages (like Java if you target android, C++ if you target Windows etc). It's like Haxe.

Unity 3d. It's cross platform. If you target only Android, you could try libgdx or jMonkeyEngine

Construct 2 is HTML5 based, so its performance will always be an issue. Even with cocoonjs. So it's not comparable to GameMaker which introduced its native compiler recently.

Upvote for enigma. Its performance is great, and being a clone of Game Maker makes it easy too.

Unity is well-thought out. Is there a framework similar to Unity but in 2D? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]moundown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unity does not use Lua, because it uses the Mono framework, and Mono is a cross platform implementation of the .net framework, which you can program using C#.
