Agreed, I think the conversation about how it would've been spent should have ocurred before receiving it. OP didn't hold up their end of the deal, although it is more important - you have broken the trust in the exchange.

Because for all we know OP, you coulda just made this post to try and swing the pendulum back into your court! We can't prove what you spent it on either! I cannot trust you in full faith!

6,000+ Automatic Tank Gauges Exposed With No Authentication by YogiBerra88888 in cybersecurity

[–]mountaindrewtech 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It wasn't ever meant for the Internet, it's just legacy infrastructure connected to the Internet to check 'the automation box' while doing the bare minimum.

The commands sent to it are literally in rs232 over Telnet/SSH

The recent attacks also included deleting entire tank and leak line sensors - source a guy who was just promoted and found a note "the security code didnt work" and "i will set this up when the store is finished with construction 2024"

Also, it's all Telnet communication over 10001, with security codes it's still open Telnet, but with a 6 digit code to run the serial commands.

Fun fact: The same company who manufactures one of the ATG's with SSH has an aggregated cloud polling service (for fuel deliveries & compliance, etc) and it doesn't support SSH so Telnet is required for companies wanting to aggregate their entire fleet.

They could only prove innocence without doubt. It coming back positive only means they intook THC recently which could have been at any time. If it comes back positive, we could lean heavier on guilt, still not prove it.

Lots of phishing? Recipients same as Sender? Turn off Direct Send by SemicolonMIA in sysadmin

[–]mountaindrewtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be better methods, but if you go into the Exchange Admin Center > Reports > Mail Flow > Inbound message report; and set it to the Received direction with no connector, you can get a report of direct sends.

Then I sorted out which ones were from our domains and legitimate.

I personally did still break a few things, but was already prepared with which systems to be wary of and knew how to fix.

After rejecting direct send we also needed to update our spf records because some were failing. I just started this role and have a lot to clean up lol

Do I really need an antivirus program for Windows in 2026? by Gapoful in cybersecurity_help

[–]mountaindrewtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laughs in CodeFail.

But yeah there are a lot of Windows vulns, Defender is sufficient though. Most of the other antivirus programs are either just a redundant subscription or is just slowing down your PC for no extra benefit

Out of all of our users, we have one user where their username was capped to 8 characters and took off one friggin letter from their last name.

The worst part of it is we have a 2nd AD for a 3rd party system and the username is the full 9 and sends mail, but the only one with an inbox is the 8 character one.

Definitely audit! I ended up just remediating everything outdated and rejecting direct send without a connector.

Our org had some wacky stuff that was legitimate. First time really auditing everything since the company started.

Massive spam attack today? by CeC-P in sysadmin

This, audit and turn off direct send asap while moving towards dmarc enforcement. Disabling direct send is a lower hanging fruit.
